You mean you can CoB with Fencer, swap back to Pistols, and the mod will stick?

I have a good question for all of you. I trust us, the Smugglers, enough to help me make an important decision. So, read through real quick and tell me what you think!


I'm aGunfighter kind of guy. I want to use my Pistols strictly for all my combat, even though I could pick something else up that's stronger. I'm just a Gunfighter...simple as that. But I would like some Defenses and be able to keep Master Smuggler and Master Gunfighter.




Using only Pistols:


--- Fencer 4/4/4/0 -Marksman 0/4/0/1 -Master Smuggler - Master Gunfighter

--- Teras Kasi Master - Marksman 0/4/0/1 - Master Smuggler - Master Gunfighter






Differences between thetwo forDefenseswhen using Pistols


Teras Kasi MasterAdvantages:



  • Melee Mitigation 3

  • +10 more Def. vs Stun

  • Meditation (not a Defense but can be used with Pistols)

  • +37 Unarmed Toughness

  • +96 Defense Acuity (not currently working as I understand)

Fencer 4/4/4/0 Advantages:



  • +9 Melee Defense

  • +24 Ranged Defense

  • +30 Def. vs Blind

  • +35 Def. vs Dizzy

  • +20 Def. vs Intimidate

  • +30 Def. vs Knockdown

  • +20 Def. vs Posture Change

  • +90 Dodge (although I think the cap is 125...so this would be +20 Dodge)

  • +32 1-Handed Melee Toughness

  • Sweet "Swashbuckler" Title





So, to sum up. Using only Pistols for offense against MoBs 90% of the time (I'll duel on occasions), which template looks better?


I'm not real sure where Dodge caps out at but I think it's well below +195 (would appreciate a response there). I don't think Defense Acuity works either but again, I could be wrong.

The one with Fencer, since Combat Equilibrium only helps while unarmed.


If you were to take anything from Teras Kasi(without Mastering, that is) to make yourself better while never actually fighting unarmed(except to level), pick up the Meditation line, which will allow you to cure yourself of bleeds, poison, disease, heal wounds, and Force of Will coupled with Feign Death rocks.

Yeah, strangely enough its coming down to Melee Mitigation 3 and the Meditation. While Meditation really isn't that big of a deal to me since the idea ofa my character (dressed in hisdirty pilot's jacket andold striped pants) kneeling for Meditation really gets under my skin.


I went to 4343 in Teras Kasi (just 3 boxes shy of the Triple Crown) before I snapped, dropped every bit of it, andwent with my Bounty Hunter template early in the Summer. I liked the effects of Meditation but like I said, it just didn't appeal to me.

Also, I suggest that when you do work on Fencer, if you wanna make it a little bit faster, go against factional NPCs, once you finish grinding for the day, get training(if you got enough experience), then go trade your faction points in for fencing experience.
