Some of you may be wondering just who I am. Others will know. I have been a Master Smuggler on Bria for over a year now. I wasn't around at launch, but was around not long after. I used to buy clamps from Caylin on occassion before I got Slice 4. I can't wait for our much anticipated 'Smuggler Luv Patch' and am leaving the game. I don't want this to digress into a SOE-SWG bash fest. Nothing will be accomplished by that, and it goes against the usual tone here on the Smuggler Forum. This place has always been good for that. Quite a contrast from the Bria board that I usally troll, errr um, I mean PAtrol. Thanks for the support, the laughs, and the comradery over the past year or so. I'll leave you folks with this bit of fan fiction. Take care & we all know Smuggler > Jedi.

Smuggler’s Blues—The Sad Goodbye

The Talus sun rose of the mountains east of New Aldera casting a purple glow over town, as he loaded the last box onto the speeder. Most everything else was already onboard the Flying Roba, parked in Dearic. The rest had been given away to friends. The house & workshops were already sold, deeded over to someone, or will be sold soon. A few of their friends had come out early to see them off. Musae was talking with them now in front of the meeting hall. He took a few minutes to take it all in. Talus had been home for over a year now. First a house west of Dearic, then a small settlement with his friends south of Dearic. Then they all moved to Oceanview, then here to New Aldera. That's when Musae joined him.

On one of his routes he had seen her playing in a cantina & during a break in her set they hit it off. He found out later that her father was the local Imperial noble & wanted him dead. That thought brought an impish grin to his face. He couldn’t tell her that was why they were leaving. She never quite got along with her family & was more than happy to be rid of them. Now Jimmy had gotten word thru the grapevine that her father’s men were coming to take her home and him as well, although he suspected his well being was far from her father’s thoughts.

As he looked at the small group in front of meeting hall, he couldn’t help but feel some sadness. The number of their small group has been dwindling for months now. Some dying in a blaze of glory fighting against the Empire, while others doing like he and Musae, running from their past, others still leaving just to see what’s over the next hill. One by one their friends started drifting away, some going to their shops, others were leaving to get an early hunt in before attending other duties. Musae slowly walked back to the speeder, a frown on her face & tears welling up in her crystal blue eyes.

“What’s wrong darlin’?” Jimmy’s deep voice asked.

“I hate that we have to leave, but I know it’s for the best. Father hates Rebels & Rebels sympathizers more than he hates Smugglers who steal his daughter’s heart. You shouldn’t look so shocked you know. I’ve got my sources too, Mr. Ledbetter. You think all I am is a pretty face?” A grin broke on her face as she brushed back a tear.

“Dammit woman, can you leave me with a few illusions?” he said with a chuckle as he picked her up & helped her in the speeder.

“Where is the fun in that?” she replied with a peck on his cheek.

They sat in silence all the way to the star port in Dearic. Both lost in their own thoughts for the few minutes ride. Once they arrived, they hired some porters to carry everything onboard. They made their way to the bridge & started the pre flight checks.

Soon everything was loaded, and they ascended to orbit over Talus. As they waited for hyperspace clearance, a sound he hadn’t heard in a long time made its way into the cockpit from the observation deck. He set the comlink to notify him once their clearance was granted & started to make his way aft. As he entered the main room, now filled with the few possessions they had decided to bring with them, he saw her on the observation deck above. The outline of her small frame stood out against the blue-green crescent of Talus. The song was the one she was playing the night they met in the cantina on her home world. It had been so long since she played anything, he’d forgotten how talented she was, and how beautiful that song was. His comlink went off but he waited for her to finish.

“The station is calling. We have clearance to leave. Anywhere in particular you want to go darlin’?” he shouted up to her.

“Just take us somewhere other than here.” She said as a lone tear rolled down her freckled cheek. “Anywhere but here please.”

“Yes ma’am.”

With one last look at Talus below them, he turned and made his way to the cockpit. As they entered the hyperspace jump, Musae wasn’t the only one brushing away a tear.

I hope you find what you're looking for elsewhere and that you'll be drawn back someday by future improvements. Until then, fly fast and shoot straight.

This is one of those occassions when I know I should have picked up Force Persuade. Yet I still feel pretty good about giving the Old Man the finger.

It's been a long time... shame for you to go

Take care out there JimmyRay, I can only hope the game intrigues you again sometime down the line and you will choose to come back... and have fun!
