G'day Scoundrels and Scoundrettes...especially you Scoundrettes...
Anyhow, Ive been a Master for a while (since June I think)and like most am thouroughly sick of the 1X% slices that seem to plague me. So what Ive started doing is adding a couple % if the client askes me what the slice is...Now this isnt on every slice, only those in the teens, Illadd a couple percent to bump it to a 20% or so,Ialmost never have to fudge it more than 5% which is good cause itwould take a very observant client to figure that out.
First, I very rarely tell them the actual number of a slice, usually just say Speed, Damage, Encumb or Effect...Heck I figure they can do the math themselves, no need publicizing my embarassing real stats. It would be one thing if I had any control over the quality of the slice, then I would proudly tell them the results, but since I cant...I wont (tell them unless they ask).
If youve never done this give it a try, Ive found that I have a much happier clientel if I dont tell them the percentages, people for some reason get bummed if the slice is in the teens. Being the suave, compassionate guy I am I just spare them the harsh reality of the process.
After all any slice is better than no slice, and a min/maxer type really will get no sympathy from me...remember Im a Master Smuggler so that firmly places me in the non-min/maxer player population.
Any how, thats what I do.
I should add that I have never, ever advertised to slice. About the only times Ill slice is if Im sitting in a cantina kicking back or waiting on buffs, or if a friend contacts me.

I like the idea, and i really like the reasoning. spareing their feelings is a nice approach 
may give that a go when i finally finish the slicing tree, obviously a 30+ in the desired type warrants jumping and shouting esspecially ona good weapon.
esspecially ona good weapon.I havn't started publicslicing yet, still got to get slicing 4. but i sliced all my weapons (except my T21 that already had a 30+ damage on it) and i may be a bit dissapointed by the 11% speed, but its still a better weapon than it was beforehand. i don't understand why some ppl get nasty about it.

I don't see a need to lie about a slice. Virtually everyone I've sliced for understands that the results of a slice are essentially random and don't get bent out of shape on a bad slice. I charge the same rates for crappy slices and awesome slices. I always give the exact numbers, unless the customer says they don't care, and only want to know about the good ones.
Several times, I've had customers, completely of their own free will, send me a great bonus for a great slice. Most players are pretty cool about this.
I do agree that slicing is fubar'd. Imagine how frustrated I got when I laid out a good chuck o' change for some good Wookie armor and got a 12% slice on the breastplate. Ghhack! Course then I got a 44% on one of the bracers

In some cases, I just don't charge for the slice. 99.9% of the time I explain that "hey, sorry about that bad slice, no charge" the customer will pay anyway. Maybe that's just on my server, but I truly do believe that most players understand our sorry state, and can deal with it.

I love to tell people the truth so they can see how stupidly random it is for me at Master Smuggler to get a 15% slice on anything. It usually encourages the community to support a Smuggler revamp.

I could understand how some folks could get all hung up on the "truthfulness" of the transaction. Ya, I can see that, but theyre usually the types selling me grade A eggs or fresh garden produce.
Im a ...well, you see theres these laws in the Imperial governed worlds, that say what I do is...er.....not quite legal. Me, I see a guy with a side arm and think to myself...
"I bet he would appreciate and improvemant on that fine instrument of destruction".
Thats a service I can provide....for a price.
Part of that price is the work, the rest is the satisfaction.
Dunno about you but giving a guy a 15% slice on a million credit sidearm, dont give me or him satisfaction....Sooooose I paint a better picture for him. Let him know that his weapon is better now than it was when he traded it to me.
Folks can quibble if they want. Me... I aint got the time for it...got a shipment commin in and I see the STs getting interested in something..I gotta get going.

And if the person you slice for does the math,...and calls you out? Then what?
I always tell the truth about slice %'s. Because if the slice is in the low end, they usually give me another item to slice (and pay for that to be sliced as well).
In short,..it pays to tell the truth.

That my friend is a bet I'm willing to make...dunno how many hundreds of slices Ive done, never been called on it, simply because I never volunteer the actual number.
Like I said in the begining, if they ask I'll tell them the actual slice most people dont ask. I just tell em after the slice that they got X number of really good slices, X number of OK slices. If they persist and want an actual number I'll tell em, but Im not going to tell them about a slice in the teens...theres no point in that.
Slicing is something I do by request only, I dont volunteer it, advertise, or seek out "business" with it.
Im a Smuggler, Scoundrel, and a "Hard Egg". If theyre looking for a bloody businessmen they are more than welcome to find one, theres always some rube in the starports advertising slicing.
