with the downers from spices and the amount of foods chefs have and buffs docs and entertainers have, spices really have been made obsolete. a spice for mind increases for instance lasts 600 seconds and gives you a downer, when an entertainer buff is 2 to 3 times as strong, lasts 2 hours, and doesnt have a downer, and brandy lasts 30 to 40 minutes, is twice as strong, and doesnt have a downer. when you factor in that there are more chef vendors than smuggler vendors and brandy is easier to come by then spices, why would anyone use spice in the first place? oh yeah, and the grind of crafting spice xp totally sucks. i rather belt sand my arm flesh than grind spice crafting any longer.. ive totally given up on this tree).
either spices need a complete overhaul or they need to be abandoned. maybe replace spice with a stealth tree which would increase your first attack damage output since you have the element of surprise, act sort of like conceal for riflemen, help with smuggling (if it ever gets off the ground), hide your sliced goods from empire searches, and be a form of mask scent that protects a player from red NPC's, the way maskscent protects scouts and rangers from red creatures.
slicing does need to be expanded. the ability to slice vehicles would be nice especially since they can be whacked out in one shot now that the ham has been lowered to the retarded level of 2000 - be able tomake the ham higher or them go faster. slicing terminals should increase the payouts even more then they do now. it only seems to add a few hundred credits to a payout and sometimes i can't see where the increase is. perhaps a window that shows the amount increase would be nice so we could see the fruits of our labor and maybe add several thousand credits rather than 500 or 600.
slicing crafting stations and crafting tools for our crafters would be nice too. it could be a temporary slice that would last a pre-determined amount of uses before it wore out, which would indicate repeat buisiness for us and would give increased stats to crafted items to the crafters. smugglers could also have a dedicated repair weapon and armour skill which would return weapons to their full stats and condition without lowering the condition like whena BH usesa repair kit to fix his scatter pistol. smugglers should also be able to slice factories and harvesters (a temporary slice which wears out over time and would give repeat business) as well as slice their personal bank to perhaps add 5% credits or increase their safe deposit or another players holding amount to 150 or 200.
added bonuses to ship and speeder operation and speed should be there too. master smugglers could get the bonus of manipulating their observed faction for short periods. for example, a master rebel smuggler could generate an imperial emblem above his head and appear purple to other imperials for a short time (a drawback could be any rebel overts not in his group or guild would see him as a targetable imperial player since they have no way of knowing he's a rebel in disguise). smugglers should also be able to craft weapon power-ups, i'm sure han solo would know a way to tinker with a blaster to get a higher damage output alot better than an artisan would.
for smuggling, smugglers could be able to craft clothes, say for instance a pack that has a false bottom in it which allows for 60 items, instead of 50 and you could hide spice or sliced weapons or slicing gear (like clamps) in that bottom 10 spaces. when you think of smuggling however, han solowasn't hidingillegal stuff in his pocket, he was smuggling in his ship. smugglers need compartments added to ships to smuggle lots of stuff. scanning in space wouldnt cause a lag in the ground game and space based missions for smugglers would be well received by the smuggle community as well as add more space content which is still a bit empty due to recent launch.
maybe this stuff works, maybe it doesnt, its just my two cents. oh and i still refuse to bother with the spice tree though i really wouldnt sand the skin off of my arms.

First of all crafting has NOTHING to do with smuggling.
I really doubt Han would have actuall crafted his own false bottom backpack.
Slicing is not smuggling either...it might be black market engineering but it isn't smuggling. Crafting PUs????? Even IF engineers wouldn't put up a fuss I wouldn't want yet more crafting for a profession titled 'Smuggler'.
Second, what USE would a false bottom backpack actually BE? I've been a Master SMuggler since a month or so after live and ever since the so-called 'crackdown'. I have not ONE time had prohibited items FOUND on me. What use would I have for further concelment other than Master Smuggler?
In case you hadn't noticed my post on crafting bordello furniture was sarcasm...I don't wnat to craft ANYTHING, I want to smuggle.

Slicing needs to let us do three things. Open doors, open locked magseals, and modify our own personal weapon, making it non-tradeable. NOTHING ELSE. Nobody wants slicing to be some aftermarket crafting business. "PIMP MY GUN! with your host Hannn $olo!" bling bling y'all. In fact, the only reason slicing exists, is because we, as smugglers, are supposed to have high powered weapons, with a short lifespan, and very low defenses. IE, if we can't kill it in one or two shots, it's time to run like hell. They never expected us to turn into slicewhores, slicing for other people. It's for our own personal use, and always was, in lieu of a specialized, powerful smuggler weapon.
Spices, I don't really care what they do, I don't want to craft them anyway.
The backpack thing, well, I don't know about crafting a backpack, but maybe modifying a backpack, adding a compartment to an existing one. Personally, I'd like to add compartments to a coat, or maybe a speeder or something.

Yeah, a secret compartment on a pack would be cool.
What would be a LOT cooler is something to actually DO with it.
