Greetings Smugglers;

I am new to SWG; just started out last week and joined a couple friends who have been playing for awhile.

I made a Smuggler because it sounds like an exciting adventure to be one; note I said that it sounds like... not is... I have done my homework; I do know that the Profession is under review for a possible revamp, I have read a number of threads here focusing on that revamp, and I think that if even some of the suggestions put forward for the revamp are actually implemented; it would probably make things a lot more exciting.

Anyway; I am not up to Smuggler yet, but it is in my plans for my character. At the moment I am working on my Marksman and Brawler skills to get there... as well as jumping into the Privateer Piloting.

So my question here is; from what I have read here so far many of you prefer the Privateer route? Smugglers like to stay neutral in the GCW right? Stay away from the Empire; and try not to attract the attention of the Alliance; because business with them will in turn attract the Empires attention.

So with Privateer in mind I am wondering what the primary ship of choice is that many of you prefer to use; and why you prefer it over some of the other choices you have available?

Forgive me if it has been asked in this forum before but I did try to run an Advanced Search with several different keywords and didn't find anything all that useful.

I want to be able to plan ahead for my smuggling career, but at the same time I don't want my character to be just another Han Solo; whiping around the Galaxy in his YT-1300... then on the other hand I have read that a lot of Privateer Pilots like this ship. I have considered working towards getting one but then I also want to be able to manuever during a dogfight when nessecary; and still have the cargo room... and be able to take at least 1 or 2 other friends for a ride on occasion.

Secondly; and last question... can we own more then one ship? And if any of you do have more then one ship; which do you prefer more for your smuggling runs?

Thanks for the advance.

I prefer being a Rebel Smuggler rather then a nuetral one. I'm a Rebel Colonel and Rebel Alliance Ace, all while being a Master Smuggler. I think it's more fun then being nuetral because I'm "doubly illegal". Not only am I ashady, drug-dealing, hi-jacking, computer-hacking, smuggling, outlawbad-ass, but also an Alliance "terrorist". It's so fun... well, it would be if Rebels were actually oppressed like they're supposed to be and Smugglers were outlawed.

The ship I use right now is the Nova Cruiser. It's an anwsome smuggling vessel. It has rooms that are great to make smuggling cargo holds which are, in my oppinion, much better then the YT-1300. It's much more suiting, I feel, for a Smuggler. The ship just has sort of a... I dunno... "darkness" to it. It's great. I love my Nova.

I also use a B-Wing, as my starfighter. I really wish I could use an X-Wing too... but I have a SoroSuub...

You can own more then one ship. You can have up to three (but the limit really needs to be increased to four). I have a SoroSuub, B-Wing and a Nova Cruiser.

For my smuggling, I'd really prefer to take my Nova Cruiser out. But it's really out of the question seeing as for when I do missions (Talus station has smuggling missions.... two of them), you need to fight. And you can't fight alone in an MP ship, so having a starfighter is really your only option.

Some day I hope the Devs make it so the pilot can fire the turrets straight ahead in MP ships if no one's maning them. It would make the ships so much more useful, and let Smugglers act more like Smugglers...

Well at the moment, for a master pilot privateer, you have one multipassenger ship with an interior (the YT-1300), one ship with a turret so a friend can gun for you (the Krayt), and that's it. Unless you have the veteran reward, in which its nothing more than a show boat. No guns, no combat, just pleasure cruising.

The rebel masters have their Nova Cruiser which has a nice interior space. Rebels also get the Y-wing early on(tier 1 or 2), which is a 2 seater like the Krayt.

Imperials have the decimator which also has a nice interior. They get the aggressor as a 2 seater, but get it at tier 4, I think.

All pilots everywhere get the veteran reward at 180 days in game.

Hope that helps. There are very few choices for a MP ship, and the combat oriented onesall tie into the faction you pilot for.

Welcome! /secretSmugglerHandshake

When the revamp does come, there's about a 1 in 1 million chance it will suck. Why? Because there's hundreds upon hundreds of amazing ideas and discussions here, that a trained monkey could revamp us and do a decent job! If we get GreenMarine leading the revamp, then it will be awesome

Some Smugglers are factioned, for a few different reasons. Some for PvP, some for RP, some just to sell Faction Points. I play a Rebel Smuggler, since the Rebellion is always in need ofsupplies, and hopefully one day I can smuggle those supplies for them. Imperial Smuggler is harder to justify, but there are some out there with very creative reasons for going that route! Neutral is, of course, the easiest way to go, or you could switch between Rebel and Imperial as the situation suits (not always easy to do, but could be very fun)

So with Privateer in mind I am wondering what the primary ship of choice is that many of you prefer to use; and why you prefer it over some of the other choices you have available?

For Light Fighters I like the Kihraxz (Black Sun Light Fighter). For Medium Fighters my favorite is the Ixiyen (also Black Sun, style 1 chassis is the best IMO), but the Dunelizard is also very cool (I think Style 1 is the one that I like, it's the most sleek and compact looking). For Heavy Fighters I like the Rihkxyrk (Black Sun), I personally think the Kimogila (Hutt Heavy) is ugly. My ship ownership, while advancing in pilot went: Scyk to Dunelizard toIxiyen, while I like the Kihraxz it just wasn't worth buying another chassis when my Dunelizard worked just fine. The M21-T Krayt is also very cool (it's a two person ship. the second person mans a turret on the top).

Ultimately it depends on what flight model you prefer. Light, Medium and Heavy all fly differently.I'm personally a fan of Medium Fighters, since they can hold a lot of equipment, but fly better (IMO) than a Heavy Fighter.

Forgive me if it has been asked in this forum before but I did try to run an Advanced Search with several different keywords and didn't find anything all that useful.

The YT-1300 is only useful if you have a crew unfortunately. Some of us fought pretty hard to make it so the pilot could have a set of lasers to fire when flying solo, but we never got that added to the game. If you want a good two person ship, that you can also fly solo, get the M21-T Krayt once you hit Master Pilot.

As for Smuggling capabilities, well, we don't know how that will work. Will only the YT-1300 (and other Multi-Person ships) be able to have secret compartments? Or will they allow any ship to be outfitted for Smuggling? We don't know, but I hope any ship can be used.

Secondly; and last question... can we own more then one ship? And if any of you do have more then one ship; which do you prefer more for your smuggling runs?

You can own three ships at the most. As far as I know it can be any three ships, though I personally have two fighters and the Veteran Reward (Lady Luck) so I don't know if the third ship slot is only for the Vet Reward or if you can have any three ships. I would be that you can probably have any three.

Thanks for the advance.

I play an Imperial Smuggler, but a Privateer Pilot. I justify the Imperial-Scoundrel thing as follows:

I'm a Smuggler first and foremost, and I'm a Ranger second. I'm a scoundrel, I'll work for whomever pays best, and I like to be left alone. The Empire pays best. By running a few missions, and doing some recon for them, I earn some cred, and I keep them off my back. The Empire has no problems employing shady types to do their work for them (Bounty Hunters and the like) and I don't see why Smugglers would be any exception. Especially with the Ranger skills, I've got it lined up really well for getting anywhere unnoticed. My main goal is to make a buck, and survive at all costs. I'll work for the "bad" guys, I don't care.

Besides, the Rebels don't like Smugglers either. They use 'em because they hve to to get stuff to fight the Empire. If they were in charge, they'd be cracking down on Smuggling too.

I play as an Imperial smuggler. This is my character's justification for it:

"I was born in a rural and mountinous area of Corellia. As I grew up I became a master of the wilderness (Ranger). I joined the Imperial Navy as a civilian contracter as soon as I was able to. One day, a civilian came up to me and asked me to help him deliver some cargo through some trade embargos. I figured that since it wouldn't hurt the Empire, why not. After that, I got into the business of smuggling, and I use my intimate knowledge of Imperial patrol routes to slip past patrols undetected."

As for ships, I fly a TIE Interceptor now, but I'll be flying an Advanced when I'm certified for it. I also plan on getting a Decimator and outfitting it with a secret cargo area. So, I'll be using the property of the Empire to make a quick buck on the side. However, I will never deliver for rebels.

THANK GOD!

Don't mind me, I just get so very tired of the Solo-clones.

Oh, and I also five-starred you, just for that line.

Hehe; thank you.

For the record; my character isn't the gung-ho type to charge into the battle with blasters shooting; while screaming like a mad wookie.

He is eh ... more of a discreet business type of person... I have a friend who runs her own Cantina on Lok so I'll stake a claim to a booth there; where I can keep an eye on the front doors; call it my "office"... and slip out the back way when or if the Storm Troopers walk in.

And thank you for the posts guys; a lot of good information here. For the record I think I will probably start out with a Dunelizard once I get to that skill of piloting... still working with my newbie ship at the moment and spending more time just wandering about exploring then anything hehe.

Fortunately though; I also have a couple friends who are shipwrights and will be willing to build me my next ship when I am ready for it.

I did not realize though that; most of the Fighters do not have room for "discreetly" places compartments?

Has there been any discussion of the revamp regarding what sort of the lighter ships might have this added if SOE does it?

I suppose that will make a lot of difference on our ship selections in the future.

I have a few friends already on the server I joined up on; so I probably could pull together a crew for a MPS; but we all have odd schedules in reality of course.

I wish there was a bit more of a ship selection that could be used as "freight and shipping" type of ships.... since that is basically what we are as smugglers. Would be nice to have a couple more MPS sized ships to chose from that didn't need so many people to make it run effectively :/
