If there isn't one out there, maybe someone with some programming experience couldknockout an imperialFP calculator to make it a bit easier to sell faction . Make it too where you can see whatit would beat cost...and add in the Smugglers price somehow, dunno. Justsomething for us lazy people

If you have MS Excel, here's a spreadsheet I created - works for both Rebels and Imperials (has columns for winning and losing the GCW). It calculates your cost, the customers cost, your profit and/or loss for the top 5 ranks. All you have to do is input your selling price per Faction Point and the number of points the customer wants to buy. Has copious notes at the bottom.

If you like it, hate it, or have any comments on it, let me know. Hope it helps.

Yes! This would be great.

It would have a drop box where you selected what rank you are in the GCW, then how many faction you wanted to buy, how much you were going to charge the customer, and then it would tell you how many credits needed to buy the faction necessary, how much faction you'd have to transfer, and what your profit would be.

I don't have any programming skills, but I think I could do this in Excel with the information from the spreadsheet link just posted.

EDIT:

Yeah, I see that the posted spreadsheet already does this, but it's only for First Lieutenant up to Corporal.

There are missions in which you "deliver an item while hostiles attack you" in every profession. I still don't consider [Smuggler's Alliance] pilots to be Smugglers, nor 'Smuggling' - at least not any more than Rebel Pilots or Imperial Pilots might sometimes "smuggle", with a lower-case s - JFreeman - 10/6/04

Haven't tried the spreadsheet yet, but the a DE made a pricing program and i was thinking of someone just making a minor VB program perhaps? little more user friendly and nice too look at or something. Just always nice to have more then one resource for other smugglers to use

Thats only regarding when your buying faction items. Not purchasing faction.

I made that spreadsheet initially with all the ranks, but after trying a few test numbers, it turns out that the only really profitable ranks are the top five (and I think you meant Colonel ). I could update it if you like, but even if you look at the top five ranks, only the top three (Major, Lt Colonel and Colonel) have any real profitability tied into them. Anything below First Lieutenant and you have to charge well over 125 credits per FP just to break even (if you are on the losing side).

Anything below First Lt. just doesn't seem profitable enough, at least for me. As a quick show, at 125 credits/fp, here are the profits for a 10,000 FP order on the losing side:

First Lt. - 18,000

Army Captain - 106,000

Major - 186,000

Lt. Col - 250,000

Col. - 306,000

I did a quick update and to break even at Second Lt, the next lowest rank from First Lt, you need to charge about 133.5 credits per FP to break even. At 135 credits, you are making a profit of 14,000 and at 140 credits per FP a profit of 64,000. At that price, you are asking the customer to pony up 1,400,000. Someone somewhere would be cheaper

But like I said, if you want me to update it, it would take me about 2 minutes - the code is already there

Hey smokey, i'm a bit curious. How long has it been that when one side is winning the FP is 85.5 and losing 94.4? And how is the customer cost the same with the top 5? say i put 125cr per fp...and 5,000 FP....it's going to be 625,000 for the customer cost...shouldn't it just be mycost+profit?

doesn't every species have a seperate fp penalty in the empire? (except human that is which is a -30% bonus)

Whenthe Rebels won Cries of Alderaan Act 1, the rebels got a 10% faction bonus when we do faction missions, buy faction, etc. Rebels also won Acts 2 and 3, so we have had the faction point bonis for quite some time.

As for why the cost stays the same in the spreadsheet - If you are going to charge a customer 125 credits per faction point, and they want 10,000 faction points, the cost is going to be 125 X 10,000 = 1,250,000. The customer doesn't particularly care about delegation ratios, or how much FP _YOU_ have to buy - that's your problem. That's why you have to adjust your price to make it profitable for you.

Edit: The customer cost is the same for every rank, if you think about it, not just the top five. Like you said, the customer cost is going to be YOUR COST + YOUR PROFIT. So if you charge 125 credits per Faction, at 5,000 faction to sell and you are a Major (losing the GCW), plug those values into the spreadsheet and you get YOUR COST (532,000) plus YOUR PROFIT (93,000) = 625,000. That's what the spreadsheet was designed for

This spreadsheet was designed to quickly and easily calculate your profit. Most posts I've seen have been, how do you figure out your profit, what's a good price to sell FP at, etc. So what I've done is compiled it into a nice little spreadsheet where you can look and see where the sweet spot for selling faction is for you. Until I did it, I hadn't realised how easy it was to actually lose money if you priced it too low.

As an aside, tomorrow I should have a Smuggler Calculator programmed out and done in VB. It will be one simple EXE, you choose your Rank, the selling price of the Faction and the amount to sell, and boom. It will fill it out for you. That way you won't need the spreadsheet or a seperate program to view/use it.

I actually have a C# program that does exactly that. It can be found at link. Right click on FactionCalc.exe and select"Save Target As" to download. The only requirement is that users have the .NET Framework installed (free download from Microsoft Windows Update).
