I've been thinking about ways to get to the speed cap on pistols and 2 handed Swords cause I'm trying to master them before pub 10 (2 handed Swords was a Holo- Smuggler is just who I am). Also, I'm trying to figure out my final template.

So I'm checking into things- using speed calculators and character calculators and reading forums. Now the thing is most people are spending skill points and millions of credits to get that speed cap but you can do it if you have the right weapons as well. AND they are not that hard or (overly) expensive when you compare them to tapes.

Last night I bought a prenerf FWG5- one of my favorite pistols because of how they look and they do heat damage with sometimes comes in VERY handy-

This bad boyis laid out thusly:

Speed: 1.7

Dam: 67 / 256

Unsliced

Price: 300,000

And I also stumbled across (after looking at every player vendor on Corellia) this Geo-cube 2 Handed Sword:

Speed: 2.2

Dam: 73 / 283

Unsliced

Price: 100,000

Now with the gun I can currently(I have the lowly speed bonus of +30) hit Low Blow every2.9 seconds and Last Ditch every 4.8, which is decent for such a heavy hitting shot. Now add a 33% speed pup on it and your speed drops to 1.4-

Now

Low Blow = 2.4

Last Ditch = 3.9

And that's WITHOUTspending any extraSP (Valuable SP) outside of what you need for Smuggler+ Novice Pistoleer. Nor did I spend Millions on tapes and attachments.

What I am waiting for is our unloved little darling, The Speed Slice.

Ihope she shows up tonight!'Cause thatCOULD have me hittingLow Blow and Last Ditch at up to 1.3 and 2.2 seconds (respectively with same power up)

And if I getteh uber s33d slice on the geo sword- well, let's just say things getREAL sick!

Sooooooo-

Threecheers for the speed slice- May she come out tongiht in all her glory!

...as always, I will keep you posted...

I made a lovely 218 max 1.5 spd gorax FWG (with the speed slice) Needless to say it gets a lot of use.

I also have a 71-177 1.2 gorax striker, very effective against those NS with high resist to everything but kinetic and blast.

I tell people that the Speed slice is underated. You save money on skill tapes and power ups with speed slices.

And you sacrifice DPS to do it. Say we're both firing FWG5s at the same target, with the same accuracy, both at cap. Yours is a speed-sliced lower damage, mine is a damage sliced higher damage, but I've got tapes. Who does more damage?

Now, don't get me wrong. Most of the weapons I use are speed sliced simply because I haven't acquired the SEAs I'm looking for…but in the end, a speed slice is no replacement for the very top of the line in equipment, and at the moment, with the speed equations as broken as they are, that's SEAs.

plus back when no one had buffs firing slower for more damage per hit was better than firing faster for less damage, assuming the dps remained the same, because you used less ham spamming specials

Exactly the point I was going to make.

Another way to say it is this: By not using aa's and sea's to boost your speed and instead using speed slices, you are lowering your dps by 11-35%. You have to remember, sea's/aa's and slices work TOGETHER to calculate your end dps. They are not independent and you cannot get the same effect by using one over the other.

Another way to look at is: Skill mods are a percentage. So by using a damage sliced weapon and gathering speed enhancing sea's/aa's you're effectively using both a speed slice and a damage slice.

Okay...possibly. BUT I'm also saving you sometimes MILLIONS of credits in attachements and power ups. Good ones aren't cheap. If you're a sword swinger it's literally MILLIONS for ONE good speed e.a. So yeah, maybe 100 damage points or MILLIONS of credits. I'm not saying it's a BETTER deal, just that it's not the worthless crappy slice that everyone says it is. OR another way to look at it is say you've got a gun that's got good to great damage anyway...now you've speed sliced to put you at the cap. You can spend your SEA's and even Power Ups on OTHER really good things like dodge, defense, and accuracy. It doesn't ALWAYS have to be "He with the highest damage weapon wins." There ARE other stastics and being well rounded is NOT a bad idea in this game.

I am a big big fan of speed. The first time I Last Ditched as a master pistoleer, I realized that the increased speed was incredible in DPS but also that the inability to hit the cap meant more room for improvement. I still think there is a very valuable place in the game for speed slices for most weapons and most professions. There are some really notable exceptions such as TK, BH, and some rifles.

Having said that...I still have to sing the praises of SEAs. Yes, I spent a large sum of money on one particular attachment and I think it was money well spent. But don't overlook the small ones that may be much more affordable (or even traded at a reasonable cost).

If you wear an ubese armor shirt and armor belt, you can fit 11 pistol speed +1 attachments when wearing composite. I have seen +1 SEAs for as little as 25K but most recently had a guild mate simply turn over 9 AAs for pistol speed +1 that he wasn't going to use. By themselves, they are not significant but in aggregate, it can make an incredible difference.

Don't get me wrong, I agree with your points but don't let it keep you from grabbing a little more speed if you can do so affordably. There is an exponential increase in speed as your mod increases. Going from +59 to +60 will not do nearly as much as going from +89 to +90. Although my comments are geared towards pistol, the same can be said for 2h sword.

The speed slice is a raving *edit*! That elusive little*edit* screwed me over yesterday BIG TIME!!!!

I got Damage slice after Damage slice.

My beautiful FWG5 (which is 1.2- not 1.7- speed) got a 22% Damage slice. My Geo sword got a 20% Dam. I even bought a couple of Adv. Axes to increase my luck- BOTH got Dam slices and one of my two Power Hamers got a 25% Dam slice- (which makes it a hard hitting 502 max dam at 6.0 speed) I only got ONE speed slice. That was on the other Power Hammer and it was for 17%!!!!!

If the speed slice chick were a dude I'd kick him right in the sack!

I sliced someone's Scythe yesterday and got a 35% speed slice. Its attack speed became 1.8, as I don't remember the original speed. I wish that it was a damage slice instead but 35%, I'm not complaining.

Speed slice can be really useful, especially for those who didn't master their profession yet ( more sp to put somewhere else ) and as a commando/smuggler i'm using my speed sliced flamethrower 90% of the time even if I reached the max speed mod I could get with my prof.

The problem is, that at Master Swordsman/Master Brawler you get +80 Twonhanded Speed. Scythes are already fast enough, in general, that a speed slice is far less advantageous than a damage slice. Let me give you a for-instance: my scythe from before I left Live for TestCenter, Slash. Not the finest of the four blades I had made at that time, but after a 35% damage slice one of the half-dozen finest blades on any galaxy at the time. Yes, I know better has been made since then, but trust me…an identical blade got a speed slice and the two just don't compare. Speed slices are nice in certain circumstances. But they are not always a boon, even at high-percentages.
