Thread: Current Sliced Weapons

The way I read it was that weapons that are sliced get a second uration bar. The more you use a weapon that is sliced the more the second duration bar goes down. I think this will be alot quicker than the condition of the weapon. As the second duration bar goes down the more the weapon goes "out of tune" and will need a smuggler to "fix" it. This does not mean we'll change the condition but remove the slice modifictions to "fix" the weapon then once again slice it. So the weapons that currently have been sliced will eventualy go "out of Tune" or "break" and they will need re-slicing again. That's just how I read it. More, repeatitive business for smugglers.

I am wondering whats going to happen to our currently sliced weapons when the Smuggler Revamp hits with the new slicing in the works. Do you think they will be assigned Customization level and then we could customize it further? Will we have the option of returning it to the original state it was in and start the slicing progress anew? I think we might just be out of luck on that last one though. If I get any new weapons in the near future I don't think I am going to slice them until the revamp.

I am also wondering how this smuggler weapon repairing is going to work out also and what we will be charging to do these new slices and repairs. They seem like they will take more time to get it done and the likelyhood of seeing vendors with sliced weapons will be slim.

I'm really interested in this too. Supposedly all the existing weapons are going to be reconfigured with the CURB, and I've heard that slicing is one of the problems of the current combat system, as it adds much greater effect to high-end weapons than your average equipment. But if slicing isn't changed with the CURB, this imbalance will begin again. Does that mean they'd need to reset weapons a second time once the new slicing system is implemented? If not, pre-fix slices are either going to be uber or much less effective than weapons under the new system, depending on how the system's built. It seems like something this fundamental to combat would need to be addressed at the same time as or in the same way that the CURB will change weapons.

It'll be cool to see how slice pricing works out. On the one hand, it'll take more time, driving up prices, and the fact we'll be able to choose exactly what the customer wants should create some value, and slice vendors should become a thing of the past; on the other, we'll probably see fewer weapons at once, and we won't have the expense of tools (not that that really factors into it currently), and with smuggler becoming FOTM, the slice supply is going to go way up.

I'm not really sure how you can speculate how those factors are going to play out. I'd guess undercutting will run rampant for a while--there's no lower limit on how cheaply some people will sell their time--but as people begin to either drop smuggler or realize that charging, say, 2K per slice is no way to make a living, prices will begin to return to more reasonable levels.

And then there's going to be the issue of weapons with ADKs on them that need retuning. These items will be worth an easy 12-20M, nothing anyone wants to let out of their sight for an instant, so I'd expect that smugglers who get a reputation for being extremely competent and trustworthy will start to become a high-end market for the wealthy and well-supplied combatants.

There's a lot to think about with all this.

I would gladly go with the idea that all old sliced weapons are reset though I can see how some people would object.

I think that detail will be a while before it's answered though...I'm willing to wait and give my ideas though.

As for charging customers? Lord, I have no idea yet...I think we need to see what resources are required, the time it takes to deal with a clients item and the type of repeatability we have. I do see slicing an entire set of armor is going to be a bit time consuming. I DO wonder if the price we come up with based on hassle will be worth it for a slice that is only temporary.

Well maybe with that new brand slicing interface we wil get a secure way to do it without any risk to the client.

You know, good points TomoRaider, I am begining to wonder if it isn't why they are showing that to us now. I am begining to wonder if we won't see that part of our revamp live quicker than we think. Like...with the CURB. Would make sence in a way. Solve the issue of having to play with all weapons two times, when the CURB hit live and when the Smuggler revamp hit live.

I know for a fact I won't even think of charging 2k. HA. lol When I sliced it was 200credits per % increase. If it wasa really crappy slice then I would cut a break if it was under 15% I sometimes never charged, if they were not a rebel they got charged 1k.

I also think that this slicing revamp would be in the CURB, makes complete sense to do it that way. I would like to get all weapons reset with their slices or at least have a choice in the matter. I just bought a new gun thats got 70%+ wound chance the damage slice doesn't seem that spectatcular to not want to try again with it. I would gladly give up that slice if it means that I couldn't modify it further with the new system.

i was just coming to the forum to ask this very question

I dont think slicing should 'reset' but the level of the slice should be 'transfered' to the new system. eg a 15% speed slice would transfer to sat 30/100 customisation, where as a 35% damage slice would be 100/100.

Oh and far as charging goes, i will continue to do what our crime syndicate does. We tell people to pay what they feel is appropriate. If they pay enough, we are happy to slice for them again. If they pay extremly well, they go on our VIP list, that ensures they get equipment sliced the first second available. If they dont pay enough, they are told so, and usually end up on ignore lists

Smugglers for too long have been under pricing thier talents. If someone is willing to pay millions fora weapon, $15kish for a set of buffs, then 100k isnt too much to ask for to majourly improve thier wepon to what they would like. Infact, under the new system 100k is still to little IMHO.

I would like to see some way to "unslice" the current sliced weapons once the revamp comes...mostly because of all my prenerf Krayt FWG5's I sliced beforeI 'quit' for 6 weeks

I was trying to reply with a quote from Barn Damascus however I am on a working vacation and my father's computer stinks.

I agree that smugglers have been getting shafted in what they get paid. I charged 200creds per % increase in their slices.

Some paid, some complained yet paid, some paid and even tipped more, and some said no and left seeking another smuggler.

Sometimes those who seeked another came back because they couldn't find anyone else, and I was happy for their business.

So happy for their business that I charged them more than I first quoted as 200creds/% charged them 250creds/% increase.

Nobody should snub a member of the underworld thatjust found out he has the power of Supply and Demand.

I have sliced several lootmade weapons for weaponsmiths and others who I know they were going to resell them and got a minor fraction of what those items were worth. This should not happen again to any of us. Players do spend 100s of thousands up to millions on sliced lootmade weapons, heck some aren't even sliced yet and they pay that much for them, we even spend 10-15k on buffs or even 30-50k for a VIP buff and several thousand on speeder repairs. Why should anyone complain or not even offer to pay smugglers what they are really worth. I plan on charging a minimum of what current buffs will be going for.

I don't think we can rely on a resetting of sliced weapon values. I seriously doubt that that data was tracked - more likely the change was applied and the weapon was tagged as sliced, and that's it. Doing it any other way under the old system would be pretty moronic when you think about how much extra data it would add to the database.

The only way I could imagine they could do it would be to reset sliced gear according to an average - say 20%. This, of course, assumes that they at least tracked what type of slice it was. If they didn't even do that... well, then I would imagine the devs are sitting there as befuddled as we are over how they're gonna handle it. Hell, they're probably reading this thread right now hoping for ideas.

I think it's safe to assume it was done in a pretty moronic way, that's why I still have hope
