Thread: Anyone else here not really give two hoots about slicing?

I mean the changes are interesting, and add a different edge to the profession, which is a good thing, but I've always seen slicing as something given to us as compensation for the lack of smuggling.
I am more concerned with content too - but some people are such wanks and can't get around a new concept. Not even to try it first.
I won't give a hoot about slicing if we don't get some actual SMUGGLING!!! And a good system at that.
I just don't want them to go here, you guys have slicing, and it's so lame it's not even worth the time it took to code.
In other words, making it pretty or in depth won't matter until 2 things happen:
1. It has to be WORTH it to slice a weapon. Improvements on the weapon have to be considerable or it's pointless.
2. One of these days they're gonna have to get around to actually making it illegal.
Now as long as I'm SMUGGLING something worthwhile... slicing will be something I'm doing while waiting for someone or just killing time.
I give a hoot.
It may actually give me something to do for a week or so while I'm waiting for the Smuggling part of our Revamp.
I think that whats upsetting even the people who dont slice about this publish is that this is supposed to be part of our revamp that everyone has waited on for far to long and this is what they have? I think it's making some people uneasy about what this smuggler revamp will look like when it's all said and done.
Just my 2 Cents

It sucks peach pits I won't be able to do master level slices simply because I don't want to be part of a large guild or don't know a lot of jedi.

I used to care about slicing. I liked it, allowed me to roleplay a smuggler, but now, I don't think I will slice anymore since I will be unable to get to the places where the high end slicing components are and will be, despite being a master, stuck only doing midrange slices just like any old dabbler. Personally, I find this new system of gating the high end components where solo players, part time players or players who aren't part of a large guild or who can't get a big group together, won't be able to get them is wrong. I guess the SOE philosophy is to slowly cut solo players out of the game.

Im part of a big experienced guild we have 10 jedi and plenty of alts which are pure combat, that doesnt mean i dont want to get this stuff myself and alone and as a smuggler/BH i dont see me being able to get to the places these parts will drop.
I play solo because this is my character, of course for certain things i group up and play though this is very rarely and isnt my first choice, all i can envision is the loot monkies selling all the highend components at high prices meaning if you dont have millions in the bank you wont be able to slice anything people want.

I respect your wanting to get this by yourself, and think, from what you've said, you share my frustration at this being placed in such a restrictive place in the game. Aside from guild issues, I like to play smuggler solo because that's more in my character and like you I'd like to be able to get these things by myself...it just seems the right way...we are smugglers, we are all too often on our own and can only depend on our wits, our gun and smuggler's luck. This new system seems to make us more dependent on groups.
I just wish they would stop making it hard for those of us who play solo.
And you're right, these things are going to be like pearls and only the loot monkies will be getting it. On my server, for the longest time, a particular guild camped the krayt graveyard out and pretty much shut everyone out of the fun for the longest time. It didn't bother me immediately (but I thought it was wrong), because I'm not a jedi and didn't need anything they droppped, but now, I can see the same thing happening and this time it's not only something I want, it's something I need to get the best slices.

Never ask for a revamp... you could get one...
Dont get me wrong: I like smuggler and think they need a change (same as Commando, Squadleader, Ranger, Creaturehandler,...) but the changes you get will never be the ones you wanted. And after you got those changes the other profs will jump your back when you ask for other changes because its "their turn now"...

I stopped slicing about 6 months ago and won't resume. I had enough slicing to last a lifetime.
Armorsmith contract?
I once spent the most grueling4 hours of my life making a measly 2 million for an armorsmith who turned around and made a profit of ten times as much. It hurt. I think my eyes started bleeding at one point, but I kept on going. Red wire, blue wire, blue, red... green wire? Where the heck did that come from?
I then sat down, and rocked back and forth on the ground, whispering to myself about clamps. Have you ever seen a Rodian reduced to sucking on his suction cup-tipped thumb? No? Let me tell you... I had to use a laser knife to get it free... I fear I'll never have a taste for sweets again. Have you ever heard the reverberating voice of a Rodian lisp out whimpering pleas to never see a piece of composite armor again? No? Let me tell you... It isn't pretty.
