I've been searched 4 times on Lok looking for Kimogilas - and 3 times on Naboo in Theed.

Not once have I had anything bad happen - always been able to avoid detection.

I guess the patrols must be intimidated by my fearsome reputation

Or I smell

It used to be that if you were caught with contraband by crackdown npcs, that they'd shift you to overt status, so other overt players could show you how you shouldn't break the law.

Of course, you also used to be able to run away from crackdown NPCs with no reprecussions.

More recently (and the only times I have failed to evade a scan) the NPCs will identify you when you decide to not waste your time, get on your bike, and drive away.

I'm not sure if the crackdown NPCs can presently set you to combantant or not, as... err... once I learned about not running away, being a smuggler generally means the scanners will fail.

Well I heard there are faction crackdowns and contraband crackdowns and that they are not the same thing. The faction scans can turn you overt, but I don't know what the contraband scans would do.

I wasn't playing when these were introduced. What's the scoop with these Crackdown NPCs? I know we masters have a 95% chance not to be discovered but who is it that will scan you and what happens if you do get caught?

The Ewoks crackdown most of the time. If you get caught you get the spankin of a life time.

I'm actually hoping that I get caught one of these times. (Not by the aforementioned Ewoks.) Not sure the 'crackdown' works, my wife has sliced gear and spice and doesn't get caught, and she's not a smuggler.

Shoot, was hoping there would be more info here on the crackdown NPCs. I'm back from a two year hiatus and when I came back I was in Combatant mode. Finally figured out how to go on leave and the guy mentioned Crackdown NPCs detecting me maybe. Very little info on it, though.

I have been searched like every two steps in Keren; I have no sliced stuff or spice, and I'm imperial-aligned so nothing has ever happened. When my twi'lek (smuggler) with a backpack FULL of spice and sliced stuff and slicing tools ---- I had packed up all my stuff before I quit last time, and came back with my entire store inventory on my back --- when the twi'lek got stopped (yanked off bike actually) I panicked and hopped BACK on thebike and sped away, and nothing happened (and the smuggler is not aligned either way).

I do wonder what would happen, though, with faction and/or contraband crackdown searches... I mean, suppose you're a CL 4 dancer with a sliced CDEF pistol ---- do the guards go ballistic and kill you? Do they confiscate your weapon? It's a neat little "event" to have happen randomly, but if nothing ever COMES from it, I won't bother to wait around next time...

In a similar vein, it is mentioned that if you do the street race in Keren, the authorities may take action against you since they don't like that kind of thing... is that just roleplaying hyperbole, or could I get yanked off my speeder, whacked, or have my speeder confiscated / destroyed? All those seem unlikely, but I sure ain't risking my BARC to find out

Well since I posted this I learned that crackdowns are basically a joke. The only time I have ever been penalized is when I stopped for a crackdown but the game treated me as if I had kept on going. It said I had 10 seconds to get back to the cop, then it immediately said I lost 50 rebel points for suspicious activity. =P
