As a Jedi I think that the whole "tuned" lightsaber thing is silly. Keep it a certification/skill level thing. So Jedi of low rank can't use high level sabers and do any damage (aka like unarm4 get jack for damange with VK's until tkn is hit) and the same with lightsabers and non jedi. It would be basically a glow stick doing no damage for non jedi. I think this would accomplish a couple things. One, it would bring more continuity. Could you imagine this on Hoth?

And I think if lightsabers were available like that, it would certainly limit the appeal and growth of the jedi population which more than a few people gripe about. It would also allow more Role Play story lines. "This lightsaber was handed down from my grandfather who was a jedi." Or just a really cool quest reward. Lets bring the SWG universe closer to the one envisioned in the movies.

Han didn't use a lightsaber. He sliced open a dead, unmoving animal. Lightsabers are VERY hard to use without hurting yourself because the blade has no mass, as it's all light, and so it's easy to forget where that blade ends, and thusly easy to say, cut your leg off, or the top of your head. THEN you have to be as fast and wily as a Jedi, to be that fast and block laser bolts and what not.
I couldn't disagree more. I shouldn't be able to do anything with a lightsaber but turn it on.

Ah. If that's the case I apologize. But you have to realize I'm a huge nerd and have been here a LOOOOONG time and I've had this arguement for REAL here and on wizards.com more times than I care to count.

Do the BHs and Jedi realize that the odds of a successful FD increase as you go up the tree?
Besides...
As long as I don't trip over one of them I don't really careif the Jedi and the BHs play the FD game all day and all night.
Have you noticed that the forums are full of requests to nerf a skill or weapon that is being used by the dabbled in profesion and not the players primary prof?
I don't hear Jedis (or is it Jedii?) hollering to get the light sabre nerfed ot the BHs screaming to get theri LLCs nerfed.
Let them bark it gives them something to do besides ruin my game play time.
Nuf said!?!
Now I'm goiing to log on and play awhile.

While I agree with you in not giving other than Jedi lightsabers I think your reasoning is more than a bit weak.
With all the martial arts weapons I've used the ones that are most dangerous to the unskilled are flexible ones and HEAVY ones. Light ones only move as fast as YOU can move them. Lightsabers don't move on their own that I know of and you can as easily see the end of the 'blade' as you can with a blade made of metal. Hell, you can even see it in the dark! That would make it safer than a metal one that you might actually NOT be able to see.

In short a lightsaber is NOTHING like any martial arts weapon you've ever fought with because it has NO weight on the end. None. No mass.

But the light sabers were originaly designed to be very heavey (don't ask mehow light is heavy,ask Lucas saw them having an extreme energy = heavy) They were meant to be wielded 2 handed like the knights of the round table style excaliber. (ANH, both Vadar and Obi Wan used two handed and the techniquie was very slow) During the making Lucas decided that it was more entertaining to have a one hand style technique and you'll see that Vadar uses it in ESB and Luke is begining to use this style. In ROTJ when Luke is a Knight heboth he and Vadar swap from one handed to two handed and back again showing their mastery of the light saber. In pre ANH most of the Jedi use 1 handed as they are masters of the light saber.
