There is this small outpost/village on starsider, SW dantooine, called Pirates Cove. Its hall sits next to a small river with a bridge accross it. That river empties into a small lake that forms a cove right near the city hall. Small and out of the way. Doubt too many people have found this cool little place.
The prefect specialization for this small town would be one that gives a bonus to slicing attempts. Call it Hideout Specialization. Restirct it to level 1-3 cities, so if you don't actually live there, you 'need to know' where to go to get a better slice. Gives a feel of real smuggling since you can't just shuttle in and then back out. Also the towns would need to keep themselves smallso they don't over grow their specialization. Even give an increase chance for a crackdown scanner team to spawn in a small city with the Hideout specialization.
Just an idea.

Good idea, but all it would take would be a few players to know such a city exists, and EVERYONE would be there.
Why? Because smugglers aren't going to want to travel to some out-of-the-way city, slice items for people, and then meet them somewhere else.
So what would happen is smugglers would have customers meet them at this town. Then everyone would find out about this town, and it would become the "slicing town". This little out-of-the-way city would now be just as packed as Coronet Starport.

There are a lot of small towns out there actually. They seem to pop up all over the place. So there will be too many for them to ever become like cnet. Just have to find your favorite one. The crackdown teams would give an air to smuggling, at least for the rebels, especially if some imp players try to camp the smuggler towns.
Chances are, you won't go out of the way for a single gun. That isn't likely, unless it is a weapon made with some good looted item. However for those that work with armorsmiths or weaponsmiths to preslice weapons before they are sold, this is the place to do it. I am sure the travel time would be paid for and the smuggler would actually smuggle illegel goods from one place to the other, under the noses of a crack down team.
A simple solution to how smugglers could smuggle.

It would be great if the "Imperial Crackdown" scans meant anything at all...
Excellent idea though. Didn't think about all the other small towns out there.

The crackdowns do mean something when you are a rebel without an uber PvP template and you are turned overt. My master chef/Architect/Artisan got to spend an hour in a safe house while waiting to go covert again. The real threat is more from pc imperials than any npc ones, unless they through nova troopers back into the mix.

Well, you need to start hiring Master Smugglers to get you past the scans! Master Smugglers get a 90% chance to avoid scans, which gets shared with everyone in their party.

This is actually a really cool idea. There's a town on Dantooine on Starsider called Crimson Sun, and I hear they have the Improved Jobs Market specilization, and design the whole town around the idea of running missions from there (with 24-hour Doctor and Entertainers on duty for buffing).
I like the idea of player cities actually offering something to Players that don't live there, and this would be something like that. A "Hideout Specialization" could affect Slicing, Contraband Scans, and other things as well.

Yeah, I am surprised all the solo groups don't head down to Darjani for buffs and then over to Crimson to run the actual missions. City specializations are not used as much as they should be.
