In answer to your above post where I answered. Yes. It can be. I've done it several times myself. However, if you don't give the smuggler a big fat extra tip the weapon might be destroyed and the ADK lost forever with it.

It's a known bug in the ethics code. The devs didn't put as much time into it for smugglers as they did other professions apparently.
