Thread: God, I SUCK @ PvP!
- Stickin' around for the beatings (when I should really make my charcter chase me- until I can get the upperhand.
- Maybe rearrange my toolbar.
- Put my "insta" heals on a loop
- Keep my rebel "Pets" handy when I approach Theed.
- Don't approach Theed.
- Switch from Assualt armor to Recon Armor.
- STAY buffed and fed (anyone still getting buffed?)

Okay I haven't PvPed post CURB yet but I'm guessing most things are pretty much the same.
Tool bar and Binding Keys is very very important. You need to know you setup and know exactly what your hitting.
Dunno about this one, I got it set up to a button which I press whenever I get low on health.
I know AT-STs are now useless, might see about getting another Storm Trooper to act as a diversion.
Chances are that staying in the same place, espicialy alone will draw in a gank squad.
It probably doesn't matter, if the PvPer is good then they'll just switch weapons. Recon is probably better against most professions though.
Buffing always helps, DOC buffs, Spice (Pixie probably), Foods (You can not stack foods that effect the same attribute. I'd recomemened the melee and range defence foods, then go from there)
Couple of other points:
You're getting beaten then root and run away. Nothing wrong with this, come back and try them again once you're healed up.
Use terrian to bring range proffession closer to you.
Keep out of melee proffession ranges, they still have a 20m lunge I believe
Dieing is good, yes I mean that. You get to learn what the oppenent tactics are and how to counter them.
Team work wins fights.
I'll keep you posted when I remember some more.
I feel your pain about the PvP and forums. ![]()

Unfortunately it's very hard to kite some people in this game, especially with cross certifications. It's very possible for a carbineer to swap to a rifle and knock you down at 64m, and get off a few additional specials while you're down. You have to make the best of what you have. When the smuggler specials work, you'll see your effectiveness increased a bit, I am sure.
- Maybe rearrange my toolbar.
I use a WASD setup and keep my most chained specials on buttons 1-5. That keeps them accessable. Chaining specials is the only way to get the most effectiveness out of your weapon and setup - if you aren't chaining, you aren't maximizing your DPS output.
- Put my "insta" heals on a loop
Yes, a /pause 60 (or whatever your delay is)between heals never hurt.
- Keep my rebel "Pets" handy when I approach Theed.
Pets rarely do enough damage to justify their use, unless you're a creature handler.
- Don't approach Theed.
Use theed shuttle C if you want to stage attacks. It's the most covert entry, nobody ever guards it.
- Switch from Assualt armor to Recon Armor.
Armor isn't all that relevant - it helps, but only to an extent. Same with PSGs, which are only truly effective versus opponents who use energy based weaponry. The best investment you can make is heals (and some medic improvements), as the ability to outheal (and therefore outlast) your opponent is a dominant factor in PvP. Unfortunately, someone without medic taking on someone with medic is very nearlya deathwish - the poor sod will always be outhealed and almost always lose.
- STAY buffed and fed (anyone still getting buffed?)
PvP is all about food buffs, unfortunately. They'll save your ass in a pinch, and unfortunately the rule above applies - ifsomeone without food buffstakes on someone using heavy food buffs, the fight is almost already over. Doc buffs help augment food buffs, but right now, chef is king.
Also:
* Get the best weapon(s) you can get - a beasty energyweapon (PvE), a beasty kinetic weapon (PvP), and a rifle. The rifle can be used to execute specials at 65m (70m with cybernetic goodies from rotw), and will land fairly often depending on how high your +General Ranged Accuracy is. +GAR is overpowered, IMO, but it seems to be what the devs intend, so get the best use out of it.
* Always power up your weapon. There's a new powerup that will make even crappy weapons significantly better.
* Use LOS to your advantage - if your opponent is ranged. Sometimes that cover might just give you the extra few seconds you'll need to get a critical heal off, and you as a smuggler can root your opponent and hide behind LOS, giving you more time to set a move up or heal. Whatever it takes to win.
* Remember that root is not an "I win," even versus melee classes and Jedi. Melee classes have huge damage mitigation that will rend your best attacks nearly worthless, and they can still heal while rooted. Jedi can (and will) even force throw at 32m. A rifleman will most likelylaugh at you for rooting him (unless youare capable of firing at 70m and he is not)
* Try not to rely on last ditch. Chances are, if you need to use it, you're getting your ass kicked bad by a heavy combat class, and a lot of last ditch damage can be absorbed by armor. Last ditch will rarely win you a fight you're losing badly (opponent has more than 50% health), but it will very easily break up a close engagement.
We've got a few dedicated pvp guilds, and chances are if you're running around overt, within 15 minutes 10 of them will come to kill you. I was hoping there would be more of the Anchorhead battles like there was on TC, and also like they used to have way back when, but alas, the "uber" types don't want to be bothered by leaving cnet/theed.
how does that work exactly? just like macros with various specials linked together?
like /chargeshot; /legshot; /restrainingshot; /bodyshot; /quickdraw;?
or does there have to be /pauses in there too?
and how do we know how long to /pause our insta-stim macro? we just have to time it how often we can use it? or is there a set way of knowing by combat level and stim level?

Corbin, what is this "chaining" your specials you speak of?

In regards to number A, "chaining." Chaining is all about maximizing your DPS. A lot of people say DPS is pointless, but that's not exactly true - your attack rate is pretty solid (weapon based). However, you can't reach the maximum DPS you can attain by only using one special (in fact, that is the slowest way to attack). Your best bet is to do several specials in sequence such that when the final sequence is done, you'll be good to re-use the first one. You can make a macro for these, but I wouldn't recommend it - you might need to toss a snare, debuff, or something else mid-chain.
And number B, you can view the duration between stim uses in your combat log. Use a stim, and then immediately use it again. An error message will pop up in your combat log, and you can use that to determine your time between usages. There's probably a set way to figure it out based on mods, but I don't know it (and I would go by the UI anyway so there are no mistakes).
What is your template HOTDOG? Mine is currently MS/M.Commando/CM 4000.
1. AOE is bugged for commando weapons - something the dev Helios is aware of (as well as the crappy damage commando does).
2. What are you using to heal yourself? Stims won't do very much by themselves.
3. Do you use sheild generators?
4. I hope you PvP in groups, because on my server, alone = dead.
5. How high are your defenses? If you have low melee/ranged D, you will get hit harder.
I don't really stay buffed or well fed all of the time. I don't chase after enemies as a general rule unless it is the last remaining enemy from a fight.
Smuggler/Commando kinda sucks as far as damage output goes, BUT if you use the rocket launcher you can "kinda" lay states and KD a group of enemies via the KD effect of that weapon. I notice that the flame DoT almost isn't even worth applying.
Nothing, and I mean NOTHING, rivals the joy of KD/Rooting a Jedi trying to run away from an ass beating.

Hey HOTDOG i'm on radiant im a master smug/masterbh I got exams this week but i'm always looking for someone to "Pwn some noobs" with/friend me and i'll join you just about any time you want to run around and fight (i'm not very good but i'm learning heh)
Yeah man! That would be SWEET.
I think Zane is on Radiant as well and he is a MS/MBH too. We should all hook up and gank some Jedi for cash! That would be a cool thing to do and write about.
Next week sometime would be good for me too.
