Thread: Anyone else finding this difficult?

Greets,

I pose this question to all of my pre-CU smugglers (no offense meant to post CU respecers). Do you guys/gals find it difficult to keep smuggler post CU?

At first I was very excited! Specials that worked! Spices that did more! Our own gun!

But after thorough investigation, I find mixing our prof with any other prof results in possibly the worst combat template out the (non doctor) combat templates.

There's no doubt that for a 'generic' profession, BH has it all. Generically speaking it rox for numbers. Defense, Speed, Accuracy.

Some of us decided to mix it up, take M. Smug throw in Master BH and what do you get? Possibly one of the slowest, least accurate profs possible.... although you have a ton of great special moves to choose from.

I have come to the conclusion that they (Devs) want us to pick one general prof (smugg, Commando, BH, etc) and mix it with a weapon specific. There is no denying the generic bonuses added with the weapon specific bonuses that this is the PvPers way to go.

I should back up a bit and say I PvP and do less PvE. So I've done the math. Basically any prof + MBH =success. Rifles rock in every category (but some defense).

Pistoleer is stinky. Sorry but it is. You get one row of great defense. That's right, our Melee defense is second to none. I think pistoleer is cherry picked for one row... guess which one?

Carbs is second to rifles plus you get to sit back an extra couple of meters (compared to pistols).

I'm not sure I understand the logic of this. You can't blame all the respec BH'ers. It's illogical to not even considerMBH (if you PvP).You know our professionhas NOTHING to do with pistols aside from marksman pistols 1-4! We get more in unarmed than we do pistols! So I was hoping our specials would be our saving grace, but I don't think they are.

If/when they "fix" concussion shot, we will be far less decent IMHO. The thing about BH is, overall the specials are amazing. Duelist stance, eye shot, underhand and of course now that they fixed critical shot, it has to be included.

So I'm sorry if this sounds like a rant... I know it is mostly frustration. I don't know if I like making spice enough to keep smuggler because that's what it's coming down to. To back up my claim I have crunched the numbers on over 12 combined templates! Six of them involving M.Smuggler and something else, including the MBH combo. When combined with smuggler, those six templates become one of the worst possible combos when it comes to straight math.

Weapons are a different ball game now. There is almost no penalty for holding a big clunky rifle anymore. Carbines are very powerfull, so why hold a pistol? Seriously, you're teathered within 35 meters of your opponent. You do less damage, and you're less accurate and you probably won't be any faster than a rifleman/carbineer. I just don't get it.

I'm going to stop now while I consider how much I like making spice and doing 1% slices on good weapons.

I am (believe it or not) still open to ideas. I would LOVE to hear from the PvP oriented smuggler that has run through some of the same combos I'm talking about. How are you finding it? Do you agree or disagree with my findings? Why/why not?

I've been a Master Smuggler since a month after live. If I haven't given it up up to the CU I sure can't see why I would now.

Slicing is borked but then I quit slicing a year ago.

I quit making spices...a year ago.

I neve did sell fp.

I'm STILL waiting to SMUGGLE.

I had MP along with MS but the two seem redundant so I respeced MP to MBH. I've taken a line of Commando but I'm thinking of respecing that to a line of Pistoleer.

I'm not that impressed with how the CU is turning out. It seems to me that people are settling on what are now the latest and greatest templates. They shifted is all, why is this current set any better than the old set? I just don't see the diversity that was advertised with the CU.

Any ranged special you can apply can be applied with any ranged weapon.

I've been applying Concussion with a good laser rifle and then moving in with my pistol, for which I have a caboodle of CA's and AA's for accuracy, etc.

I see where you're coming from. On the PVP side, Smuggler leaves something to be desired. I'm sticking with Smuggler though, because I don't care if I have the greatest temp out there. Even if Smuggler is just a thought and a title, I want it. I did make moves to be one of the better Smuggler temps out there, but that's because I want to be competative. There will always be a better temp out there, but in the end, I get a satisfaction out of being part of a special group of people known as Smugglers. We would all love to see you stick with Smuggler, but in the end, you have to pick the temp that makes you happy and goes better with your play style. If Smuggler is not included, then at least you will always be a Smuggler at heart. Who knows, you may come back. Once a Smuggler, always a Smuggler. Solo became a General and a father, he was always a Smuggler at heart though.

first off, math be dammed. math never did anything for me, so i'm going to keep ignoring its existence. I might have a rough time against a few jedi, but I win the majority of the fights I get into. And the numbers for ms/mbh suck.

second, who really gives a ratsass about being the uber pvper. let's face it, if you really want to be the ultimate cockfighter, you probably wouldn't be a smuggler.

but that's just me. I'm confident just where I am.

are you kidding? I love it more than I did before. Coupled with my BH damage dealingh specials my smugler specials make a great opening salvo, debuffiug the target, making them more vuln to my attacks. I've had no problem in PvP or PvE...in fact I regurlaly find myself outdamaging folks in PvE and findmyself a target of choice in PvP. It's all about the gear and how you chain your soecials!

I'm with Fishbrains on this one. Pistoleer/Smuggler is badass now I was helping folks with that mission to escort wooks from the Imp prison on Dathomir, and I just stayed, laying waste to the imperial forces there. Sure, they half my combat level, but damn it if it's not a blast using fanshot and burst shot on groups of stormies. Hell I can even take down AT-STs now...i could never do that with a pistol before!! O.O Mix in a little commando and it's fanshot and other assorted smuggler specials, but with fire!!!

Honestly. I'm looking at my respec possibilities and it's a little hard to keep smuggler. I'm pretty sure I'll keep it (after all, it was my reason for staying in the game past a month - long story).

Still, looking at some of the combo's... Master BH+Master CM+Pistoleer 0400.... oooh yeah, that's a money shot.

Still, so MUCH potential in smuggler. Fantastic titles. Awesome RP opportunities. Combat wise, I feel much weaker than I did when I could lay a heavy DoT+Fuzzy Dynamo and then pop a final shot in at the end. I used to be able to solo Rancor's reliably but that all changed. Still the CU is a step forward in my opinion... just like WoW was, (same combat system after all).

Stick it out and hope the revamp is worth the pain, and tribulation.

Thanks for the responses. I can see most of you have also been through this and have your reasons for sticking with it. I originally posted this after a night of PvPing as a BH, Master carbs, and some other defense thrown in. Now as a smuggler, I was pretty blown away by the damage I was doing. I picked out two jedi and then went through the combat log after and was .... well shocked. That's when frustration set in about how hard it is to be a PvPer with the same amount of skill points built around 'smuggler'.

So I have to say, if I'm staying it's purely because I want to have that tag above my head. I have two fantastic post CU pistols. I also have an excellent carbine, but my heart is with pistols, and doing the contraband thing. I just keep saying to myself, there's more to SWG life than PvP. Even spices are better.... and I won't talk about slicing.

So everything that I still love about smuggler is fluff. Nonetheless, I don't think I can give it up. I think my last few days of respec I will flip back and forth from Master Smug, BH, Pistoleer. And Master Smug, Master Pistoleer, w/some carbs.

I will try to see if being the 'controller' of the group will satisfy my need for bloodlust.

Thanks again for your thoughts. I hate even saying the word 'revamp', but man I'd love to see one.
