Thread: Slicing Ship equipment?

Has there been any talk about the possibility of slicing ship components in one of the Smuggler publishes? Or for that matter, slicing vehicles? Any thoughts on this? Good idea or too much work?

There's certainly been talk of it, but no hard data. Maybe someone can link one of the dev posts where they say they want to add some of those features someday.

perhaps allow smugglers to slice their ship and make it so that it is nontradeable after they make modifications...or allow them to modify equipment and make it untradeable/un re-able.

as a shipwright i coudl imagine slicing a sweet level 8 component then re'ing it to get some uber l33t dudezorz stuff...but I think that would be way too unfair

I could be wrong, but I thought I saw a post that they weren't ever going to allow sliced ship parts because of imbalancing. Tomo might have a better idea being the Pilot Corr.

Well what I remember reading is that they wanted to add a function for Smugglers on POB ships where, for example, they might be able to push certain components beyond their limits similar to how astromech programs already do. So basically you'd want a Smuggler on your POB ship to play Scotty and boost your rig, but once you land all the modifications return to normal.

However, that's just what I gathered from what I read. Those aren't exact words. Let me find the link I guess...

Here we go, on the In Concept forums.

Clicky

Specifically: "Finally, smugglers will be giving some slicing options that can be used inside POB ships."

Ok, I guess that's not a lot to go on. I was pretty sure I read a few more details somewhere else, but maybe I made it up in my head.

I could see that much happening. POBs are still grossly underpowered, so being able to slice them isn't going to throw the game off or anything. Kind of sounds like they'd be a temporary slice you'd have to reapply whenever you took your POB up, maybe.

When it comes to regular components, though, I think the feeling is they're supposed to be balanced already (despite the fact some parts have been changed a few times since JTL came out), and allowing them to be sliced would create balance problems. And honestly, despite being a smuggler myself, I think I agree. There could be room for a creative slicing system, but a straight mass reduction/damage enhancement/speed boost to starfighter parts probably isn't anything we're liable to be seeing.

hell... at this point I'd be excited if the game would let me slice my f'ing finger with a survival knife.

Slice ship parts??? How about we be able to slice the stuff that we're supposed to be able to.

I like the idea of temporary slices on multiplayer ships. It should damage the parts, though. Sliceing flight computers to hold more data or sliceing droid interfaces to work faster would work, I think. I don't think that would unbalance things.

Is it wrong to not tell them if they don't ask?

Whats wrong with the patch notes? Is it that the slicing isn't in there? It just seems like a normal update to me, now if it was Publish 18 and no slicing changes well then it'll be time to buy everyone a keg and see who can get alcohol poisoning first.

I once made a post about Smugglers in Space, named it "About Smugglers, Slicing and Programs" or something.

It had a few nice tools for Smugglers in it, like mine throwers and a booster overcharge program, droid overclocking.

It didn't got many replys, but I also didn't got flamed. Was maybe a "Interesting but not worth my time to do anything about it."

Now where did I write it...? Here in the Smuggler forums and linked it on the Pilots or the other way around...? I need a shovel, 5 black candles, some white chalks, a lighter and a volunteer, if someone is interested...
