Select the item and choose slice from the radial menu. For containers and terminals this will result in the item being sliced, for weapons and armour, see below.
How much xp do I get per slice?
None for either weapon or armour slices; to progress up the slicing tree you must get Pistol XP, just as every other Smuggler tree. However, when slicing a terminal or container, you will receive 200 slicing XP.
How do I slice a mission terminal and what does it do for me?
If you slice a Mission terminal successfully, then open the terminal mission window, the first page of missions will have about 25-50% higher payout than normal. To slice the terminal, simply select it and choose the "Slice" option from the radial menu.
Can you slice faction terminals?
Yes, you will get a bump on your payout like a normal mission term would. Also you get an increase to faction earned for the mission, but not the faction you earn by killing the targets, only mission completion reward.
Can you slice missions for others?
No. Smugglers can slice any term we can use, but only the Slicer can get the higher rewards. Of course if he is in a group at the completion of the mission the group will have a cut of this increased payout.
Does a Master Smuggler have bonuses to slicing above and beyond that of a Slicer 4?
Other than the extra slicing options detailed above, no.
Can I reach 100% customisation with just slicing IV?
Yes; if you've enough slicing options to reach 100% you can do so, regardless of your slicing skills.
Can you pick the stat that increases on my weapon/armor?
Yes (see options below).
What does Slicing do to my weapon?
Increase Attack Speed:
This slice increases the attack speed of a weapon.
Order | Total Bonus | Customisation Rating
1 | 2% | +20%
2 | 4% | +25%
3 | 7% | +25%
4 | 12% | +30%
Note: The 'Total Bonus' column is just that, the total bonus the weapon has; each bonus does not add on to the next one above it.
Enhance Damage
This slice increases the weapons damage range.
Order | Total Bonus | Customisation Rating
1 | 2% | +20%
2 | 4% | +20%
3 | 8% | +20%
Note: The 'Total Bonus' column is just that, the total bonus the weapon has; each bonus does not add on to the next one above it.
Increase Critical Strike Chance
This slice will give the weapon a small base chance to hit vital areas for double damage; this bonus is applied in addition to any critical hit chance supplied to an attack.
Order | Chance | Customisation Rating
1 | 3% | +20%
2 | 5% | +40%
3 | 10% | +40%
Note: The 'Total Bonus' column is just that, the total bonus the weapon has; each bonus does not add on to the next one above it.
What tools are required to slice weapons?
The first slice for each of the three weapon slicing options requires nothing but the Smuggler's skill, but after that specific slicing components are required in order to peform the slice (one component per slice). These are as follows;
Attack Speed:
- 2nd slice requires: Simple Toolkit
- 3rd slice requires: Finely Crafted Toolset
- 4th slice requires: Delicate Trigger Assembly
Enhance Damage:
- 2nd slice requires: Simple Toolkit
- 3rd slice requires: Illegal Core Booster
Critical Strike:
- 1st slice requires: Simple Toolkit
- 2nd slice requires: Finely Crafted Toolset
- 3rd slice requires: Delicate Trigger Assembly
How do I slice a weapon?
Select the weapon and choose the "Slice" option from the radial menu. A window will open presenting you with three options (or less, depending on how far through the Smuggling profession you are); each of these options and their effects are detailed above in the previous question.
Once you have chosen from the three you will be presented with yet more options, of which you must choose the first in the tiered sequence;
e.g. you begin slicing a weapon that has not previously been sliced before; you want to increase the weapon's attack speed, so choose that option. You are then presented with the attack speed slicing options. You must pick the first unsliced option, in this case Rebuild Weapon Body; then click Ok and watch as your weapon's stats are updated. If you then want to improve the weapon's speed again, repeat the steps above, ensuring that you have a Simple Toolkit at your disposal for use in the slice. You can continue to make modifications to the weapon until its customization value reaches 100%.
Can I exceed a weapon's capped damamge or speed?
In order to keep weapons within the game balanced, each has their own cap for damage and speed while being crafted (viewable here); however, the caps on weapons for slices are slightly lower than the crafting caps and while not are all known, a list of these caps is being put together by the Smuggler community (viewable here).
If either a weapon's speed or damage has reached that cap, you will be unable to improve that part of the weapon with a slice; you can however still improve other parts, so even if both the damage and speed cap are reached, you will still be able to give the weapon a chance of critical strike.
What does Slicing do to my armour?
Enhance Resilience:
Normally armour begins to suffer from reduced effectiveness at less than 50% max condition. This slice will improve the armour’s performance under extreme decay. The armour will not begin to suffer the reduced effectiveness until it reaches the level of decay shown below.
Order | Condition | Customisation rating
1 | 40% | +25%
2 | 30% | +25%
3 | 20% | +25%
The first column is the order in which the slice must be made; the second is the changed percentage of condition at which the armour piece begins to suffer from the effects of decay; the third column being the amount added to the piece’s customisation rating.
Improve Impact Deflection:
This slice reduces the amount of damage/decay a piece of armour takes from each hit by 50%. Higher Ranks in this slice increases the likelihood of damage reduction.
Order | Chance | Customisation rating
1 | 20% | +25%
2 | 40% | +25%
3 | 60% | +25%
The first column is the order in which the slice must be made, the second is the chance in percentage terms of each hit’s effect on the armour’s condition being reduced by half, with the third column being the amount added to the piece’s customisation rating.
Add Hardening
This slice gives the armour a chance to absorb 50% of incoming damage to the player. This bonus does not stack with other armour pieces. It only applies if the sliced armour piece is hit in combat (I.E. a head piece bonus of 1% does not result in an overall bonus of 2% as each piece offers 1% for the area of body it covers).
Order | Chance | Customisation rating
1 | 1% | +15%
2 | 2% | +35%
3 | 3% | +50%
The first column is the order in which the slice must be made, the second is the chance in percentage terms of each hit’s damage to the character being reduced by half, with the third column being the amount added to the piece’s customisation rating.
Armour Break Reduction
This slice reduces the effect of the
Armour Break ability when this armour piece is hit in combat.
Order | Reduction | Customisation rate
1 | 25% | +20%
2 | 50% | +20%
3 | 75% | +20%
The first column is the order in which the slice must be made, the second is the amount in percentage terms that the Armour Break effect is reduced, with the third column being the amount added to the piece’s customisation rating.
What tools are required to slice Armour?
The first slice for each of the four options requires nothing but the Smuggler's skill, but after that, specific slicing components are required in order to peform the slice (one component per slice). These are as follows;
Enhance Resilience:
- 2nd slice requires: Simple Toolkit
- 3rd slice requires: Shock Absorbant Padding
- 4th slice requires:
Improve Impact Deflection:
- 2nd slice requires: Finely Crafted Toolset
- 3rd slice requires: Powered Motivators
Add Hardening:
- 2nd slice requires: Trandoshan Intraframe
- 3rd slice requires: Mandalorian Intraframe
Armour Break Reduction:
- 2nd slice requires: Shock Absorbant Padding
- 3rd slice requires: Reactive Micro Plating
How do I slice armour?
The process for slicing an armour piece is identical to that of slicing a weapon, with only the options available and effects differing.
Where can I get slicing components from?
Slicing components enter the game in the form of loot drops. These can be obtained throughout the galaxy, on the ground as well as in space. Known places that drop high end components include the Death Watch Bunker (DWB), Avatar Space Platform and the Corvette. Known specific drops include (thanks to Makris):
(Space) Tier 5 merc Ship in Dantooine: Level 4 armor upgrade pieces
(Ground) Nightsister Sentinels, Nightsister Elders (Dathomir, Stronghold) and (Tatooine) Krayt Dragons: Mandalorian Interframe, Delicate Trigger Assembly
(Space) Tier 5 and 4 Black Sun, CorSec mission spawns: Illegal core booster (3rd weapon damage slice)
(Ground) Mercenaries on Lok: Simple toolkits
(Space) Tier 4 Tie (unspecific craft) while on a duty mission
(Ground) Thugs outside Moenia, Naboo: Tier 3 slicing componets
(Space) Tier 5 Imp Gunboats, Kessel: Reactive Micro Plating and Illegal Core Boosters
(Space) Tier 4 chiss poacher ace, kashyyyck: Reactive Micro Plating
Also, Bounty Hunter missions now give out slicing components regularly as loot from NPC corpses.
Does a slice have to be done in one session?
No, a Smuggler can slice a weapon and, aslong as the weapon's customisation rating is less than 100, he/she or another Smuggler can go back to it later to slice it again.
How can I tell if a weapon/armor piece has been sliced?
The improved stats and customization rating is listen in the weapon's information.
Can I slice my [insert item] after using my Anti-Decay Kit (ADK) on it?
Yes, you can still slice an item after applying your ADK to it.
Can I slice my [insert item] after it has been bio-linked?
Yes, you can still slice an item after it has been bio-linked.
Do I have to hand over my weapon/armor to get it sliced?
Yes... so be careful of potential scamming and look for trusted smugglers.
Be sure to note the stats and even the serial number on your item if you're worried. Also, if you're unsure of the Smuggler (or customer if you're the one doing the slicing), making a log (typing /log will save the last 100 lines of conversation, or hitting printscreen will save an image ofwhat's on your screen in your SWG directory) of the conversation where you work out what's to be sliced and how much it will be is advised as you can use present this to CSRs.
Where do I find containers?
These are found when looting humanoid enemies. Basically anything that wears clothing. (Swoopers, Pirates, Meatlumps, Wookie Brawlers, etc.) They are also sometimes found on a "Treasure Map" quest. Containers used to be the main method for gaining slicing XP at novice, but as slicing XP no longer exists, there's no need to do so unless someone can make it worth your while.
What is inside a locked container?
95% of the time, junk. Ranging from low end weapons, melons, single bits of resources and maybe an article of clothing or two. Perhaps another locked containers as well. 4% of the time... NOTHING. So please don't feel a Slicer has scammed you if he hands you back an empty container, it happens. 1% of the time some folks have found skill tapes, saber crystals, and other oddities in containers, so ya never know.
Check out rodav's thread, 'Locked Containers [what's inside]' for the recorded contents of 166 containers.
Can you slice a Personal Shield Generator?
No.
How much should I charge for a slice?
This really depends on which slice you're talking about. As all slices after the first tier require components, you should really be basing your price off of the usual cost of those slicing components (plus some extra for your self of course). Before the current system was in place, people would charge anything from 2000 to 10,000 for a single slice, so use your own judgement (and perhaps ask some Smugglers on your server) on what to charge for each tier.
I cannot put items into my unlocked container. It says I don't have permission to access it?
If you shift the container around it will let you use it again. Such as move it to your backpack then back to your root inventory. Or from your house floor, drop and pickup, or from the bank. This seems to reset it till you next want to put something in it.
How do I Slice a Faction Base Terminal?
While a Special Forces base is vulnerable, or at any time for a PvE base, you and a team may destroy it by following a sequence of actions, the first of which is to have a Bounty Hunter jam the uplink terminal, with the second action (the one we're interested in) being a Smuggler slicing the secturity terminal.
That's it, you're done!
- You must be Declared (with a faction) and set as a Combatant (PvE enabled) to Slice a terminal in a PvE base and set as Special Forces (PvP enabled) to slice a PvP base.
- You must have Slicing 1 or greater.
- After the Bounty Hunter successfully jams the Uplink Terminal you should slice the security terminal.
- The Security Terminal is oval in shape and dark in color. It will have the label "Security Terminal" when you mouse over it.
- Choose slice from the radial menu to slice the terminal.
