Thread: Selling Sliced Weapons profitable?

Are there any smugglers out there who buy unsliced weapons in bulk from your local weaponsmith. Then slice them all and re-sell them for what they are worth based on their slice...
That way, you as a smuggler can sell "Black Market" Weapons that are better and reap the profits of the enhancements. It seems like a good role for a smuggler to play since we are the ones being "illegal" so we should reap the $$$ benefits from our illegal activities. What do other smugglers think about this?
Do you think it would get the weaponsmith all worked up into a hissy fit....Wait, that might actually be funny(strictly speak as a scoundrel smuggler)...

well the weapon smith shouldn't get upset ... if he's selling unsliced weapons at a price and you buy them... mission accomplished: he sold his unsliced items at the price he was looking for.
However the markup on sliced weapons isn't THAT great unless you just get an unbelievable slice on an enhanced weapon. You'd probably make more consistent money (with far less capital risk) if you found a weapon smith and worked out a mass slicing contract with them.
Maybe you could arrange to be paid in unsliced weapons rather than credits ... without the up front cost of buying them, that'd be a nice payment actually if you resell them. (The weapon smith could maybe leave you a crate of weapons of some type that you aren't slicing for him in this session - that way he can be assured you aren't just keeping all the uber slices yourself).
It could work, but see if you can come up with a creative deal w/ a weapon smith ... it'll be more profitable that way and a smuggler should always have a few connections in arms dealing

Well many people get very sensitive in this game if they feel they are missing out on something. If they feel you are taking advantage of them, no matter how unfounded the claims may be, they will whine and get upset...
It is an unfortunate side effect of getting such a diverse group of personalities together in a single game.

I like the idea of the mass slicing contract and getting paid in unsliced weapons...That way he gets what he wants and your capital risk is the price of the WUK's, Clamps, and knives...Interesting...
So the next question is what would be a fair deal for both parties....I will have to think about that one for a bit....

I don't sell sliced weapons nor do I like weaponsmiths to be selling sliced weapons. But only b/c on my main I'm a Master Smuggler and I like to slice my own stuff.

a 30%+ damage slice on a popular weapon like a T21 or a powerhammer can sell for quite a lot in auction.

i sliced thirty T21's and got 2 large damage slices that were put on auction...
i have a feeling my friend put too low of a buyout price. but the two guns that sold basically covered the cost of the rest of the guns. everything else is just pure profit.

I remember in my early days hearing smiths complaining about things they made showing up on other peoples' vendors at higher prices (presumably sliced).
I thought they were being too sensitive, but I never did get in the business of "gun running". I probably could, seeing as how my cousin is a master weaponsmith now...

Gotta say, I do this all the time on Eclipse. Not a big money maker because I am not a merchant, so I am limited to 25 items on the bazaar. But business is pretty good - make about 100k profits per week. Mostly buying good but inexpensive stuff (either in bulk from a smith or individually from particular vendors) and slicing it. Then selling it at the high end of the bazaar pricing limit (price based upon post-slice quality) - usually on Tat. Carbines, pistols, and 2h swords seem to go best, with vibro weapons and 1h swords right behind. Spend a lot of time keeping the Bazaar stocked though.
It gives me a chance to make a little cash, and it improves the quality of weapons available to newer players on Tat. Especially since I can usually get some really good stuff pretty cheap from privatevendors on the more advanced worlds. I know I bought one of the Novaworks shops out the other day... They probably were trying to figure out what was going on.
And by-the-way, its "locksmith" - please don't use the 'S' word.

Yes, having a sliced weapon/armor vendor is profitable. I had one for a while but it was more trouble than it was worth since I did not have merchant on my smuggler and had to use my alt to stock the vendor. It was an all night event slicing and stocking the vendor only to have it wiped out over a weekend.

Ah, but having my stock bought out is a good thing... Unless I am on endor doing pistoleer or TKA missions... Gotta go all the way back to Eisley and refill the Bazaar (Note that I just use the bazaar, even with the 20 credit per sale cost, b/c that is where most new players look first).
I do have deals with certain smiths. For example, I just bought 60 (he actually delivered 61) 2h swords for 75k - they were decent quality too. I will slowly offer them for sale over the next couple weeks - seem to sell about 5 per day (how can that many people be in the market for 2h swords?)
Anyway, they buy them...
