Thread: Smuggler and CM Post-CU: Crowd Control that stacks?

I know that no one can answer this with total surety yet- I'm just looking for your best guess.

Do you guys think the crowd control elements of Smuggler and Combat Medic will stack at all? For example, the slowing or state resist debuff meds in conjunction with attacks from the Smuggler tree with similar effects.

I'm trying to decide whether these two professions could combine to make the ultimate crowd control template, or whether a stacking problem with make them redundant and not a very viable option.

Thanks in advance.

Well, I did a little testing with various crowd control abilities during the first few days of CU testing, when we could use any special in the game by typing its /command. I was particularly interested in seeing how Pistoleer's crowd control would mesh with Carbineer's. I found there are two major flavors of movement control: rooting and snaring. Rooting is applied by Pistoleer's Stopping Shot and Smuggler's Concussion Shot (probably others as well) and completely stops your target from moving for ~10-15 seconds (a very very rough estimate). Snaring is applied by Carbineer's Crippling Shot (and, I assume, any other ability that "slows" your target), and slows your target's rate of movement. When a creature is snared, its movement turns into a short run, then a short walk, short run, short walk, etc, though this could just be an effect of lag.

Both root and snare can be stacked simultaneously, but there's no reason you would want to; if your target can't move, why slow his traveling rate? However, once root breaks there's a time where your target is immune to further root effects (you see a -No Effect- message on screen), but is still vulnerable to snares. It's therefore possible to alternate your roots and snares to make yourself a very effective kiter.

So whether or not Smuggler and CM stack well depends on the effects CM's debuff attacks use. If the movement slowing debuff is a snare, then yes, that will stack with Concussion Shot. However, it sounds as if the state resist debuff in CM won't stack with Smuggler's Overwhelming Shot, but we won't know that for a while.

Hope this helps.

Ah, thanks. In that case, you probably won't get much out of CM's movement-impairing attacks. The other debuffs may well be worth it, however, not to mention that sexy little Disruptor Pistol...

Thanks a ton for the great replies!

It's going to be a tough decision, for sure. I love the idea of Smuggler after the CU, as well as Combat Medic - but I'm still not convinced that they'll mesh well together. We'll just have to wait and see, I guess.

Thanks again!

I thought the two 'crowd control' professions were Smuggler and Pistoleer... *looks confused*
