LOL, I do that too sometimes. Yelling at a stormtrooper to scan me on rare occasions when I'm not combatant, but it never seems to work. Eventually I end up slapping them and get the insta-incap.
I have been scanned a couple of times, by both factions and some police forces as well. Most of the time, I was wearing a fully slicedsuit of composite armor and sporting a sliced gun. They never EVER bothered me about it, nor about being a rebel (on leave - granted). So did I use my fabulous Underworld abilities to avoid the scan? I doubt it. My alt is a non-Smuggler and he never got caught either.
Did anyone here ever got actually caught?
Ok why not during smuggling missions or even normal game time when you land at a starport you get an instanced part of the port itself with your ship sitting nice and quitley and you can get up out of the pilots chair walk to the access ramp, open it and walk down into the port area. From that point there could be a percentage of a scanning crew showing up with some guards. If you pass then you can go on your way and exit your instanced port area and enter the main starport terminal. If you get caught you could attack the guards, make a run for it or pay a fine / bribe.
I still dont get why SOE cant make more use of instanced zones for occassions like this. If its system limitations then BY GOD sort it out. If WoW can do instanced areas SWG should be able to. rant off - idea brain closed - seeking beer

My idea for the smuggling revamp would me. you get mission, you go to such and such to pickup the item to smuggle. Now because the person your supposed to deliver it to, is a big crime boss you don't where he is. So you have to go on a series of checkpoints and talk to people along the way. Some will offer to buy your stuff, leaving you open to piss off the big guy, and get a BH after you. They would offer slicing tools, or credits in xchange for some or all of the loot. The choice would be yours to take the deal and risk it or not. After going to several check points, you finally get to deliver it to the big boss henchman, or for master smugglers only the Big boss himself. The Check points should take you all over the galaxies. The reason could be to throw off imperal who could be tracking you. Could start on Tat, then to Yarvin...and so on. and maybe even end up back on Tat. Some of these checkpoints should be space stations. Requiring you to launch and FLY (should be optional for those who have JTL, and better paying!) You hail the space station, and if your on a active mission, an option pops up to "speak to so and so" and he gives you your next check point.
All this running around would be logical for a smuggler especially a new smuggler who they ahve to check out and make sure he (or she) is legit and trust worth scoundrel. In the mean time, Imperal's would be scannign you, and you would have to either pay off ot talk your way out of it. Ship scannign should be regular. I WANT TO talk my way through an imperal block cade!!
There should be a way to make fake ideas. Assemble different loot items and you can generate a fake idea good for x number of uses. More skill the longer it lasts. would keep it interesting. (kinda like the picture printer or viewscreen printer works)
Alas this is only my dream..and will never happen
