Thread: PvP fighting as a smuggler.

Any advice for fighting pvp? I remember someone posting a macro about it a while back. I was overt recently and got the crap beaten outta me! Is there any special moves I can use to hit them before they hit me?

Smuggler, along with pistoleer aren't too good for PVP, we're waiting on the combat balance essentially. The only thing you can really do with smuggler special in pvp are delay them with panic shot and knock them down with low blows, though I'm not sure how effective it is from experience.
I switch to TKA fighting in pvp now, much more effective than anything i can do with the pistols.

If you only have smuggler skills, I recommend you only PvP for fun duels or something, because you are going to die and quickly.
Try picking up pistoleer, teras kasi, or any other combat profession of your choice.
There are nice guides in the Pistoleer forum on how to PvP with pistols, I have a humorous guide that will sober you up to fighting with pistols in PvP in my sig.
Try the Triple Threat Guide in the sig of the guy right above me.
Smuggler by itself is very, very, very weak in PvP.

haha I read that guide I thought it was funny and didn't deserve the 1 star treatment

As for beingpistoleer being week PvP you haven't fought against Stealth on valcyn PvP before /shudder He's got some insane Dot pistols, I think one is a 200+ mind fire pistol, luckly he's only got like 30 uses left on it and only brings it out in certain duels. That doesn't help when you see the rest of his collection of Dot pistols though /shudder again.

The most cost effective purchase I have made for PvP was on a pistol speed SEA. As a smuggler / master pistoleer, I still was extremely slow in comparison to TK, fencers, rifleman, and BHs. Even the scythe can get pretty low on speed and swordsman can be devastating.
In a simple numbers game, if your supporting equiptment can keep you alive for 10 secs, you have an opportunity to dish out close to 5000 pts in PvP damage (with a non-krayt weapon)if you can last ditch at the cap. I have found that for me, the keys are to really play a support role, keep moving, and keep applying panic shot (to help your group) while last ditching the target in front of you. A lot of practice switching cursors and practicing my strafing while running missions has also helped a great deal.
If at all possible, get your speed up to +90. With master pistoleer, you will have +74 so you need another +16 on top of that. At +90, a 2.6 weapon or better can be used to last ditch at the cap and that will cover all but the DE-10 (which I have seen as fast as 2.7).

I agree that the best thing you can do for pistols is increase your speed w/ skill tapes.When youreach 100 speed you can shoot specials on any gun imaginable at the 1s speed cap. I have 96 pistol speed and can shoot lastditch w/ my Geo Blaster (2.1s) and DE-10 (3.5s) at 1s. If you can speed cap lastditch and get a crafted dmg-sliced Geo Blaster you will do some nice dmg in PvP. (The speed will all change after the combat rebalance though.)
As far as macros go I havea couple that loop tohelp make sureI constantly have specials going. One just queues upIntimidate every4 secs and the other does3 lastditches every1 sec. The first macro is called Intimidate and has:
/intimidate1;
/pause 4;
/macro intimidate
The other is called lastditch:
/lastditch;
/lastditch;
/lastditch;
/pause 1;
/macro lastditch
I have these 2in my toolbar and start the intimidate macro a couple times and get it to stick, then dump it (have a key bound to /dump) and start both of them once. You should get about3 lastditch for every initimidate. You could adjust the numbers to change the ratios. I also manually add some lowblows or maybe a bleed to the queue from time to time.

yes dot is nice to have in a pistol... if you got the bazillions of credits to buy one.. there is a guy who has an insane tangle. (i was wondering why he was shooting me with a stupid tangle pistol.. then i saw the 610 mind tick) hopefully the balance will bring something back so that pistoleers and smugglers can be a little more effective and not have to rely on finding dot guns to be pro active in pvp
