the dislipline idea sounds good. Balanced yet would give eveyone what they been wanting.

What would it take to earn this? would it just come with the box?

And with 90-180 min downtime, you would have to charge significantly higher, and couldn't fill all orders. This would keep the rest of the market open.

interesting.

Bad idea. How many people would say "come back after your downtime is up"?

Bad idea.

"Okay, I'll pay you [LARGE amount of creds] to wait and use your skill to slice my uber krayt weapon in a hour and a half. See you then!"

Personally, Ilike the idea that we take a chance, and they take a gamble when slicing a weapon. It kinda fits. Sure, we're "masters" of the profession, but we're no weaponsmiths. We don't know the inner workings of a gun like a weaponsmith would. Even if you get a crappy slice, it's still better than when you brought it in, so don't moan at me for "screwing up your uber gun".

Just my two creds.

Oh, I meant to tell a story in my original post.

I was in Mos Eisley getting ready to head back to Talus before I log out for the day and go to bed. I got a tell asking if I could slice some armor.

me: I'm almost out of AUKs. I could do a few pieces.
customer: lol. I have 4 sets of composite.

==wait in starport for shuttle==

customer: I'll pay you 150K if you do it tonight.
me: (with $$ in place of pupils) I need to go to Talus and get more supplies. It'll probably be about 30 minutes.
customer: np.

So, I took the shuttles all the way to Talus, ran to my house near Dearic, restocked my slicing supplies, ran back, took the shuttles all the way back to Mos Eisley and made 150K. By contrast, 4 suits at my normal price would have been 80K. Yes, I work cheap.

To top it off, I got a tell from a girl in Talus asking for a slice. I shuttled all the way back there to slice for her before logging out, mainly because I'd originally wanted to be on Talus anyway.

It was good money, but I wouldn't want to make a habit of it.

Aye, it's a pain in the ass running to customers. 85% of the time, I make themcome to me. If they don't want to, I'm sure they can find someone else, hehe.

For those of you that play(ed) EQ, you know of disciplines. For those of you that don't, lemme explain.

These discipline gave you neat abilities for a short period of time. I.E., a dodge one that allowed you to dodge every single attack from when you activated the ability to 8 seconds after.

Only bad part is that these skills usually couldn't be used for about an hour and a half afterwards (72 minutes is usually what it was, for most disciplines, for you nitpickers).

My suggestion:

Slicing disciplines.

1. Your next slice WILL be a damage one. Downtime: 90 minutes. (Slicing: Weapons Advanced)

2. Your next slice WILL be a speed one. Downtime: 90 minutes. (Slicing: Weapons)

3. Your next slice WILL be 30%+. Downtime: 180 minutes. (Master Smuggler)

Can only use one discipline at a time. Downtime from one discipline means downtime from all disciplines.

Other suggestion:

Some way to tell what kind of slice you're going to have next. Even a 70% chance. You think after 3-4 months of slicing every day I'd be able to tell which systems I modify (or in this case which freakin' wire I cut) to get a result I want. I don't even have a problem with failing with the result I want, as long as I see Slicing become something more than bomb disarming.

I think this is an excellent idea. After a couple of thousand slices, you'd think I'd at least know how to A) slice for the desired effect and B) increase the percentage of my slice, all with in realistic limits.

As a master smuggler, my worst experience yet has been with a suit ofComp. I'd had excellent luck with this customer so far. A couple of really good slices on his FTs, then a crappy slice on LP, then a decent slice on his HAR. Couple of days later, he sends me a tell, wants his new comp suit sliced. "Sure, " I says, "come on by". But I warn him, like I warn everyone, no matter how many times I have sliced for them. Infact, it's in my Bio. So, he shows up and I start slicing.

First slice - 9% eff on Helmet. Right away, I stop. I tell him, this looks bad. You sure you want me to continue? He says, yeah, roll the bones. So......... off I go.

Chest - 12% eff. I tell him, d00d, this is looking ugly. Not my day. He says ok, we'll try again tomorrow.

Then a good friend sends a tell, Hey, I got a buncha LLCs I need sliced. I tell him today is not my day, but he's jonesing to get his LLCs sliced, and I usually have good luck. So, I relent. 10 LLCs sliced. Only 2 above 30%, both for speed. Remaining 8 are ALL under 20%.

Next day, Comp d00d tells me, Hey Bro, ready to finish slicing my stuff? I say, yeah, come on by.

I do the pants first. 16%. WTFITAA? Boots - 29% Eff Bracers were 18% and 10%, both Eff. Biceps next - 5% (5 ?!?!?!?!?!?!?) and 11%, one was encumb, other was eff. Gloves last - 39% encumb.

I never charge for a slice under 20%, since I get them so rarely. After hitting master smuggler, until that day, I NEVER had a slice under 15%. I felt so bad I didn't charge him anything at all. A week later, he hauls in a full set of ST armor, which I slice. All over 25% and all for encumb, which is exactly the opposite of what he was hoping for, but at least the percentages were better. Sends his buddy to me, with another set of ST to slice a couple of days later.

Right off the bat, ST Helm - 10% encumb slice. I quit. I tell ST Guy #2, find some one else, I got a cloud over my head.

I dont mean to flame, troll or cause any offense here, but for those masters that say they like the "randomness of it all" and the chance that they might get a really, really crap slice, I say drop master and go back to Slicing III.

first of all I've read a couple people post about how we have pistol mods... we dont... Our pistol and unarmed are required but not improved (other than a couple SLOW moves) at all, making pistoleer nessesary if we want to be effective with our moves. But that is not the main point of this post.

My idea for master smuggler is that they get a 'secondary slice' an improvement to the range mods or ham cost to go along with the main slice. This might not seem like much now... but after the 'combat balance' I suppose that these stats are going to matter a lot more.

Agree/Disagree?

Would that be for a smuggler's personal pistol? Or is this a modification he can make to anyone's weapons? Because one of things I think smugglers need is the ability to personally slice their weapons beyond what they can normally do for other PCs (of course this heavy modification wouldn't be tradable or anything)

I agree with the personal pistol idea....since we don't get a whole new weapon.

I think that we have tinkered with our own personal weapon for so long, we should be able to make it extra good (sliced).

Only one gun at a time though...our best (prefered) pistol. Since you use it the most...have field striped it and cleaned it the most,

and gave the most care and attention to that very personal friend that needs to function properly to effectively save your hide.
