Thread: Idea for Smuggler Revamp

My idea is to have people who are smugglers, given the ability to pledge allegience to one of three Smuggling rings: Valarian, Borvo, and Jabba.

All three of the Smuggling rings will have their own base of operations, and levels of thugs/tasks a la Jabba's Theme Park. To be able to pledge allegience, you must perform certain tasks for lower-level thugs of the chosen smuggling ring, similar to Jabba's Theme Park. Of course, just as in the Theme park, the better the task, the better the pay. Once you pledge allegience to one ring, you are not allowed to pledge allegience to any other ring for the rest of your time, unless you are approached by an NPC of the opposing ring, and offered to spy.

Here's the fun part: when you get to a certain point in the level of allegience, you become a "made man" in that boss's ring. Being a "made man" makes you a target of disposal by the opposing smuggling ring. You are seen as overt by other made men in opposing smuggling rings. So, if you're a "made man" in Jabba's ring, a made man from Valarians ring can kill you, fora bonus from his boss, and will give him faction points in his smuggling ring. Being that it would be a pain in the butt to be overt 100% of the time to someone, a smuggler would only be overt to opposing smuggling rings while he is on a mission from his boss.

of course, this is just an idea. the prospect of this actually getting implimented is slim-to-nil, being that the devs have their hands full.

The only problem with the idea is the issue of forced PvP.

1 person may enjoy the challenge of fighting his/her way up through a crime orginization AND having to fend off other player incursions toward their boss...

Another person will want NOTHING to do with having even the remotest possibility of having to fight another player.

I'm not saying that they would HAVE to fight someone, but it definately gives the player the opportunity...

It's basically the same thing as having to fight off a bunch of MOB's to complete a mission. Alot of the times, to complete a mission, you must first get through a bunch of bad guys, so why not add that to this whole "mob boss" type of idea? The only thing, is that the MOB's trying to kill you wont be NPC's, but PC's.

it will give the smuggler the opportunity to either be sneaky, take small starports, and shuttles, to get to their destination. Meaning that you wont find a "Made Man" Smuggler going through Coronet to get to his final destination in a remote location of Corellia. You'll find him using lesser used starports, or even taking shuttles, 2 or 3 times to finally get where he is going. The most remote place to be is alone, so the Smuggler could easily just hop on his bike, and drive to his location across the planet if he chooses to completely avoid people if he is on an important mission.

It will give the smuggler the CHOICE to become a "made man".

If the smuggler wants to get the big bucks, he'll have to put himself in harms way, JUST LIKE IN REAL LIFE. Everyone complains that this game isnt like real life, or similar to the Star Wars universe, and how things happen... but dont you think that a REAL smuggler in the Star Wars universe would have to risk his life to get the job done? In real life you have cartels working against each other, sabotaging each other's business, killing each other's men. THIS is how it should be for a smuggling profession in SWG.

I like the idea of being part of an Organized Crime Faction...but as a Smuggler, and only a Smuggler my PvP skills are pretty weak.

Therefore I don't care for that aspect of the game, nor do I partipate unless absolutly neccesarry.

This idea would force a player into PvP in order to feel more fulfilled, and participate in all of the smuggler areas.

But I do wish they would let us join one of the Criminal Factions...not just GCW ones.

I dont think all smugglers have a combat profession to go along with the Smuggling profession, so if you were to become a "made Man" you possibly would only have to fight other smugglers with the same combat skills as you.

But i'm not saying that being a "made man" would be required to be in crime organization. You can stay at the level right below it if you choose to, making money that way, doing missions on that level. There would be only two differences in the level right below "made man" and the "made man" level.

The first difference is that there is a small PvP involvment. But like i said, a player who wants to be a "made man" but not PvP, will try to find alternate routes to their final destination, and will give a little more excitement, because of the prospect of being killed in the middle of a run.

The second difference is the money. "made men" would make about double the level below it.

So, it would be up to the playerif they wanted to be a "made man" and wear that badge.

Eh. It'd be a neat option. It' just be criminal faction which we've been waiting for for years now since the developers cut the Hutt faction from the game (but long ago they entertained the notion of a Hutt Expansion after JtL)
