Thread: If quality doesn't matter....

...then why do molecular clamps, along with almost every other craftable item in this game, name specific qualities of resources that affect the "outcome" of the object.

In this case: "conductivity 100%"

So, one would assume the higher conductivity of the metal used in the crafting of a clamp, would increase the quality of the clamp.

But yet, "quality of the tools being used has no affect on the outcome of the slice". I just can't seem to figure out why this is the way it is. Poor programming? along with a poor effort on the entire development team? They aren't telling us something? I'm just unlucky?

The driving force behind this post is an extraordinarily long run of mediocre to poor slices on various objects.

When you slice weapons and armor, and get worse and worse slices over and over, you just start to wonder.....**edit**?

I've only been a master for about a month, and had planned on keeping it, but this is getting friggin rediculous!

Any other "lifers" out there share my utter contempt for this proffesion?

I don't share the contempt. I love this profession and what it can be. Hopefully as the revamp comes we can come up with a compromise, as many players DON'T want the material quality to matter

Here we go again....

But to answer your question, I would speculate that No, anyone that holds the profession in contempt has probably dropped it.

I haven't hit master yet, so I can't comment on the quality of slices, butI think the reason that you see the "conductivity 100%" in the crafting window is that this information is in there for virtually every item that can be crafted. I think it's just laziness, that it's in there, not the dev's way of trying to frustrate us. It's probably a "database" issue, and that is why it is still there. Just my opinion.

You're just unlucky unfortunately

Think about this: If any tool's quality had an effect it would would be the WUK/AUK you used during the slice, not the Molecular Clamp or Precision Laser Knife. Why? Well, the purpose of the Clamp is just to tell you what wire to cut; it doesn't augment the actual weapon/armor modification process. So a well made Clamp gives you 100% accuracy with your wire selection, and a poorly made Clamp gives you .... 100% accuracy.

If Experimentation DID work for Clamps, then a well made one would be 100% accurate and a poorly made one would be slightly less (perhaps 90% or 95%) accurate.

Just keep at it, everybody has both high and low streaks when it comes to slicing. I've heard of people having huge high streaks, and then they bottom out when they decide to ride the high and slice their own gear! It's all pseudo-random.

i dont now if its quality or what but i do know that i did 100 slices with regular auk, clamps and knives meaning any quality resource went into the making of it and my slices were 16 to 27 percent with the occasional high slice. then i went and did another 100 with really high quality stuff and the range of my slice perentages went up. i no longer was getting the 16 cept for very very rare occasitons and 25 to 34 were my average on armor

If smugglers could experiment on items it open a can of worms.

Clamps would not work 100% of the time, getting FAN's to work 100% of the time, what would be the fail rate of PLK's and would it mean you cut the wrong wire. How much would you pay a smuggler who failed to improve any of the 10 items you gave him to slice?

Then there are spices does it increase or decrease the negative effects along with the positive ones. Would you every use another spice if it had a 30 min downer?

Not to mention us poor smugglers would be spending way too much time resource hunting rather than smuggling. Experimentation is fine, as long as resource quality is not a factor. Skill should matter, smugglers being the tinkerers we've been made into, should be able to make great stuff out of crap. And with spice, it's the processing that makes the difference, as it's all made from the same raw spice.

In a sane galaxy, just not Star Wars Galaxies...

Flow Analyzer Node - quality x 50-75% = Chance of it choosing the right wire.
Molecular Clamp - quality = Chance of it choosing the right wire
We -always- get to choose what we want to upgrade.
AUK/WUK - quality, which some limiting mathematical formula, how effective the slice is.

Though yes, I'm not entirely crazy about the molecular clamp not giving me that 100%, if you added a quality factor to it, that should probably be it...

the devs in a post about 3-4 weeks ago flat out admitted that the quality doesnt matter, they intended to put experimentation in but they rushed smuggler out the door so we are not finished. so right now quality does not matter in any of our tools. slices are just random, you have hit a bad luck streak. your best bet is to sacrifice a virgin(aka Noob) to the slice gods to make them happy. you have fallen out of favor by your comments. you must now repent and beg there forgivness or you will for ever get 17% speed slices on everything...........

Hey some things in this game just do not make sense. I have a char thats a BE and for non food tissues the schem still lists OQ 33% PE 33% flavor 33% why should what somethign tastes like inpact how good stuff stops a bleeding?. If you look at alot of things in this game ti would seem that alot of the programming took place monday mornign at 7 in the morning and 2.30 in the afternoon friday. the reason the Conductivity 100% thing is there because itt was to much work to make a separate system for smuggler's, and also we do not know what they have planed for the future

i recently did some slicing for a WS and he gave me some kit's called 'grinding WUK' he use his crappy good for nothing resources on them and got a fairly good run of slices nothing bar the odd one or two below 22% on both damage and speed, so i would say that the quality of the WUK/AUK does'nt matter, what matter's if the dev's r having a bad day or not
