Allow me to preface my post....
I've been a smuggler since December of 2003, master since January 2004. Sure I've quit the game a time or two over frustration, but I remained a smuggler at heart. I have not come to this forum to protest nerfs, or complain about the state of the game (regardless of the many states we have seen)
That said, I read the pub. 19 post, and immediately came to the smuggler forum to see how my fellow smugglers felt about the publish. Here is my question - why do you think the slicing revamp is a good thing? Weapons breaking has got to be one of the worst design decisions I have seen yet in the history of SOE. Why on earth would someone want to take a weapon they hunted a (enter high end loot dropping beastie here), paid a 12 point top dollar to craft, to a smuggler only for it to fail on them in the middle of a big fight. Furthermore, we are the only ones that can fix this horrible affliction to our fellow game player's favorite weapons, so in order to enjoy the time I get to spend on line I must, in essence, remove the title I have carried with pride for these many years from my toon to spare myself the tells of despair we all know we shall receive ad nauseum. With that in mind, all I have seen is "Yay! we are getting some attention from the devs!!!! I guess I just fail to see how this is going to work out to our advantage. This looks to me to be a poor redesign, and one that will cause a tremendous amount of grieving.
If you disagree I would LOVE to hear why. Smugglers have long been one of the more thoughtful and enlightened groups on the boards. I personally just fear this might be a sign of the design principles behind our future revamp.

I pretty much agree with you and I have a bigger problem with the new slicing.
I gave up slicing a while back as the whole concept got boring after two years of it.
Now I have to hide my title to avoid the tells. But most people know me on my server and know I stayed a Smuggler through respec. bleh...I'll be getting tells anyway for something I could give a rat's broken wind about.

I have not had the chance to test the "Slicing Revamp" but from what I read this is my take on it. Reward -vs- Risk, with the current system, the only thing left torisk is either speed or damage is boosted and the reward, a weapon with better stats than what you bought. With this new system, Reward: we get to choose, at the customers opinion, the type of slice it will have with no fail. Risk: the weapon breaks, fails, jams, whatever maybe during a critical time in battle or not. I like this concept, not only will it bring repeat business, its adds a certain "Oh Crap" factor into combat.
As far as:
"Weapons breaking has got to be one of the worst design decisions I have seen yet in the history of SOE. Why on earth would someone want to take a weapon they hunted a (enter high end loot dropping beastie here), paid a 12 point top dollar to craft, to a smuggler only for it to fail on them in the middle of a big fight."
The weapons *shouldn't* be perma broke, just not usable until a Smuggler can fix the problem. Point blank, if you want this "Ubbah" weapon to be more "Ubbah" there should be a downside to it.

Well, right now I get negative slices for good weapons. No matter how the new changes will work out, things can't be worse.

Basicly, when the weapon fails, it gets "Out of Tune", because you're overriding the safety features in the weapon, since it wasn't designed to undergo the amount of stress you're putting it through with the slicing. You simply need to get it "retuned" by a Smuggler.
Think of it as putting rocket fuel in a riding lawn-mower. That thing could work a lot faster and harder by using that fuel, instead of regular gasoline, but you run the risk of doing some damage to parts of the machine.

And the best thing about it is the Smuggler gets to keep his gun modified and working!
Down with the na sayers!

At least the items will be fixable.
I personally think that droid permadeath was among the stupidest things they've ever done intentionally. Well, 100 use schematics was about as bad. But the droid thing was actually implemented, lol.
Anyhow, yeah. I doubt I'll fly my title. It's about as deadly as flying the MID tag, just slightly more profitable.
