Thread: In Testing: Smuggler Quest (capital S)

Hi all,

I wish this was ready yesterday before TH’s ‘tip’ but I needed time to make the spice and other contraband, since the devs don’t seem able to have time to make content for us at the moment I decided to take the first step myself.

With TC being mothballed and TC-Bria being behind live I had some time to kill over the weekend and dreamt up a 3-chapter Smuggler quest (yes – capital S). The quest begins on TC-Prime (listed as TestCenter on the server select screen) a little west of Eisley with the contact for the West Eisley Supplies from BoShek (or WesB’s ) (to help find him is on the planet map under equipment named “BoShek’s contact”) and involves some space flight (the Kessel Run, of course) and some ground travelling. If you don’t have a TC toon it is recommended you do the newbie quests until Trehla gives you the X-31 and pick up novice SA pilot, I’ve made this quest so it is more for those with Smuggler in their heart, than smuggler in their template.

Please have a go at it and let me know what you think about it – either here or in PM/in game e-mail.

Oh, and the quest does require a 1k ‘entry’ fee, this is repaid twice over (unless you steal the stuff) and is done to prevent a mean-spirited player cleaning out the starting vendor and stopping others having fun.

If you do like it and want to set this up on a live server then I might be persuaded to part with the instructions on setting it up, although your server may have to modify it slightly. There is a relatively simple alteration to the quest to add the functionality of player bounties for failed missions, but at this time I’m not implementing this.

Anyway – good luck to those who try it out, any bugs please send to Hambe, thanks!

NB: The quest will be available for at least 30days from today (longer if demand is sustained).

Edit: As two players reminded me below - there is a bug meaning vendors do not display correctly on the map always, the first vendor is at 2516 -4628 on tat (just West of Eisley) if he isn't listed on the map.

well i made a TC character and began this quest last night. and i must say, so far so good.
i didn't get very far into it. the first leg was simple and neat. i actually felt like a Smuggler for the first time in SWG when i landed in Moenia and jumped into my speeder.
i got up to the point where i have to add the coordinates of the two space stations to figure out where my next contact is located.
the whole math equation is interesting, but kinda took me out of the Smuggler mood a bit. but it does a good job of randomizing the path i suppose.

i actually bumped into Wes at the tent on Talus. we were both a bit confused about the math equation thing, but i think we're clear on it now.

i'm gonna finish it up tonight, but i'll give it an in-progress /thumbsup.

thanks Red-Dwarf!

SOE should hire you to create Smuggler content. I'll be a reference even though I have no clue who you are.

Just a quick question since I can't install TC right now: what are the "minimum requirements" to set up the quest exactly by your rules? (You mention vendors so I guess Merchant skills are a must etc.)

Yeah, sorry for the math bit - it is fairly simple:

First bit in space (the Naboo-Lok run) is to add it all up, and then look at the first two digits

Second bit (the Kessel Run) is to fly to the point and then read the first digit of each co-ordinate.

I've tried to add a bit ofstory to each, but I couldn't think of another way of actually forcing you into space (any other way you could figure out the next vendor locationandbypass the bit of Smuggling in space)

Hope you enjoy the rest of the quest.

Is it a problem with TC? or just not enough hard disk space?

Absolute minimum requirement is 7 spare vendor slots and 13 lots (or efficiency 4 and 7 lots) with appropriate structures. Recommended is 3404 merchant as this enables greater immersion. For the higher immersion (and a way to reward people who do the quest) you need goods to Smuggle.

I don't want to give too any more details as it will be a spoiler.

hehe yeah i read that little disclaimer about actually forcing people to launch into space. it makes sense, but at first glance it's a bit confusing.
i think you've done a pretty good job with the story so far.

i have a question though, when you say Kessel Run, do you mean actually going to Kessel space? because my character is brand new and i'm not even sure i remember how to get to Kessel, or if i'm even able to get there with just novice pilot.

It wouldn't be the Kessel Run if you didn't go to Kessel!

I've checked and a novice pilot in a prototype ship can make it to kessel, I will add an extra bit of speech to the vendor who sends you there to give the space stations (for ref: Rebels - Dantooine, Imperials - Endor, Neutrals - Dathomir in each system they are on the navigation map).

Can you tell us ona sepparate thread how this is all set up (for spoilers) and what this really involves? I'm very interested in doing something like this on Bria, but I have no clue what this entails, and I'm too lazy to check it out! Lol
