Read the thread of "smuggling missions and why we need them" to see JFreeman's comments.
It looks like we're probably going to get a smuggler terminal to run missions, similar to a BH terminal, or any other terminal for that matter.
So, rather than gripe about what that leaves out, for THIS THREAD, I'd like to talk about how we can adapt the missions that other professions have to our own.
We go to smuggler terminal (hidden somewhere like the bottom/back of cantina's just for the sake of it). We check and see what missions are available. As someone stated, "smuggle x to person a through checkpoint b." That doesn't have to be as dull as it sounds. If you've ever been on the BH terminal, different factions offer the bounties. Let Jabba, the Black Sun, etc sponsor these activities. then, you have to get to your supplier (equivalent of the spynet informant). These suppliers could be in random, hidden places (like jabba's palace, etc. AND you need positive faction for whatever sponsor you choose in order to get to the supplier. So you get the illegal stuff and must take it to someone. Obviously there needs to be some resistence. Well, how hard is that to put in? Combat missions spawn enemies, space missions spawn enemies. For randomness, some of your deliveries could be to one of the mining outposts in space, where a few rivals wait for you (like a space destroy/escort mission). You have options. Go around, surrender your cargo (and gain positive faction for the rivals who jumped you), fight to the death, or (in true smuggler fashion) shoot em all with concussion shot and run right by them
Then you get by them and deliver your package. Or you keep it and cancel the mission. (now, ideally, this is what would give you visability for the BH terms but that may be a little to much for one update.)
Anyway, you get the point. If the devs are just going to try and get us smuggling missions (basically delivery missions with some opposition somewhere) let's try and figure out how we can take existing parts of the game and move them to us, which seems like a more likely way of adding content/missions/whatever you want to call it.

This would at least be SOMETHING. Not fantastic or anywhere near what was once on the 'in concept' board, but something, at least.
I don't like the thought of checkpoints to get past... at least not static checkpoints. You'd wind up with a bunch of smugglers going through the same area for their missions... which kind of sucks. Random chances for one or more groups of 'enforcers' or ambushers to jump you during the run (chances varying depending on smuggler 'level' and the difficulty of the mission) would be cool... then you can use whatever skill you have to either kill the ambushers, bribe them, surrender, whatever.
Of course, to make this a realistic system, we'd want the whole 'reputation' rating system, but... that's crazy talk... an intelligent system for managing PC Smuggler prestige and Smuggler BH missions? Madness!
