Thread: Smuggler Revamp Underworld IV and Master Smuggler A Proposal

Since the face of the Galactic Civil War has been dramatically redrawn with the latest update (and wholly for the better, IMO), the role of Smugglers in the GCW has to be updated as well. Since our long-awaited Revamp does appear to be on the dev's radar for real this time, I have a few small suggestions I would love to see included in our Revamp that addresses our role in the Galactic Civil War.

Here is my idea:

UUNDERWORLD IV:

Since we can already buy and sell faction at a discount, one way to bring this skill in line with the recent GCW changes would be to grant the ability to buy a faction pet at Underworld IV who is, essentially, a Recruiter of the faction of our choice. The only restrictions would be that its functions would be limited to allowing players to change their factional status by conversing with it (i.e. a player could use it to change status from "On Leave" to "Combatant" and from "Combatant" to "Special Forces, " or vice versa.) As more and more players begin to take part in the GCW due to the popularity of the current GCW changes, an issue that has arisen is the desperate need to find a recruiter to change your factional status quickly, whether you are coming off leave or coming back from the cloning center. We could fill that niche perfectly, and it would fulfill some of the high expectations of the Underworld tree we all share.

This is how it would work. With Underworld IV, Smugglers would be able to go to an existing Recruiter of their faction, and purchase an "Runaway Rebel Recruiter" or an "AWOL Imperial Recruiter," who would act as a normal recruiter, but whose conversation tree is slightly modified to reflect that they are fleeing their faction, or are in debt, or have some other nefarious reason for their dealings with known criminal such as ourselves. They would then be able to be "called" whenever our (the Smuggler w/Underworld IV) status is combatant or higher, and other players would be able to use them to change their combat status the same as they could from any other recruiter. This would add a lot to our profession, and allow us to fill a vital role in the GCW that is just crying out for help, the need to change factional status on the go. Combat professions would LOVE to have us around, as we would be incredibly useful in any PvP battle, allowing players to get back to Special Forces status quickly, so they can get back into the battle ASAP.

MASTER SMUGGLER:

Right now, the Master Smuggler box does not adequately reward us for achieving this lofty milestone, but this can be addressed here as well. When a player reaches Master Smuggler, it should really MEAN something. One way to accomplish that would be to grant us the ability to purchase at Master the same "Runaway Rebel Recruiter" or "AWOL Imperial Recruiter" as in Underworld IV, but with the added bonus of being able to do *everything* we can through them that we could through an NPC recruiter in, say, Bestine or Moenia.

We would be able to call our factional "pet" in the cloning center or out in the field, and anyone around us of our faction would be able to use it to purchase purchase factional items, or to change their factional status to Special Forces on the go. This is something many combat players are asking for since the latest update, and by giving it to us, the devs would be killing two birds with one stone. On top of all that, we as Smugglers would have the fantastic ability to sell faction points at the time and place of our choosing, which would certainly result in increased sales and profits, which would be nice, too.

So what do you guys think? Is this feasible?

Sorry if any of this has been suggested before. You guys are the sharpest lot in the game, so it probably has, but it hit me in-game yesterday as a "Eureka!" moment, so I wanted to bring it here and see what you folks think.

No offense... but no!

Neutral Smugglers continue to get the shaft as the only positive fixes this profession gets is faction based, while they continue to neuter the rest of our skills.

Smuggler is the only profession where a third of what's working is devoted to faction.

The Smuggler Revamp should be about one thing... Smuggling. I wouldn't mind seeing some other things come along with it, but without and in depth and meaningful contraband and smuggling system implemented, they can take all the GCW fixes and keep em, because I probably won't be sticking around to care who wins in the SWG world.

Sorry if I seem harsh, but I'm tired of non aligned Smugglers being thrown by the wayside.

Meanwhile, crafters are saying "We'd really like to have a TV that's larger than 12" and gets more than 4 channels and doesn't constantly lose vertical control", and entertainers are saying "Can we get some color instead of this B&W piece of junk?" And smugglers? We're listening to radio programs of "The Shadow" and "The Abbot and Costello Comedy Hour" and hearing FDR's Fireside Chats. We don't even HAVE a damn TV, much less a broken one or a "broken" one by Jedi standards. I'd LOVE to be as "broken" as they are." - The Legendary Solo4114

I understand where you are coming from Zane, and once argued from the same position you are taking, but I've come to realize we need to work from a realistic perspective and not an idealistic one. I too would love to see a place for neutral/criminal smugglers out of our revamp, but to immediately dismiss an idea that is based on the *current* make-up of the Underworld tree simply because you are a Neutral and don't like things the way there are, isn't going to get us anywhere as a profession. The Underworld tree is factional, that's just reality. If we are going to having any influence on where our Revamp takes us, we need to work from that perspective and push for changes we can realistically hope to see enacted.

In MY perfect world, the Underworld tree would be about working with a criminal syndicate, but I know that isn't going to happen with the Revamp, so I deal with what we have, and how we can make it better.

I dismiss it simply because that tree reflects nothing having to do with underworld. I have no problem with the skills being there, but I would not want anything more devoted to faction skills when our revamp comes along. That tree really should be renamed anyway.

I do not look at things idealistcly. I look at them realisticly. Realisticly, if they don't implement Smuggling and make us something more than faction vendors and slice monkeys, then there is no reason for this profession nor will they have many "Smugglers" around anymore. I know there will always be someone to step into our places to provide the service, but the people who have been waiting forever to just be a Smuggler will be long gone.

Like I said, I'm not trying to be harsh. Heck, I'm not really even against the ideas, I just don't want them to add more things to a tree that they don't really belong in. I respect the fact that people enjoy these things and even profit from them, but we need to stop looking at the profession in terms of what it is now, because we all know it's nothing like what it should be.

I truly believe that if we do not look at the why the profession is now and base our input on fixing that, we will be in for a huge letdown. I would love to see us be totally reborn as a completely different Smuggler profession, but I just don't see it happening. Right now I think we need to focus on getting the best improvements we can, or get back on the end of the line, I'm afraid.

I like the idea...I'm just not sure it belongs with US, ya know? It just doesn't seem at all criminal or smugglerish.

It's certainly an interesting idea, albeit somewhat GCW centric . It'd certainly be a nice 'bone' for the mean time, however there are a bunch of other things that'd likely be preferable to many Smugglers. That's not to say the idea itself doesn't have merit, just that there're alternatives that some may prefer betweennow and our revamp, which will hopefully contain a whole lot of actual Smuggling .

i'd much rather see master smuggler get a few skill mods and possible the ability to place a new type of building.....a casino, (maybe make it so 30% of proceeds go to city treasury, 30% to the Galactic Gaming Corperation [Or hutts] and the remaining 40% to the smuggler

Yes allowing factional smugglers to call out a recruiter npc would be nice, but simply put, too easy...we're not babies, we dont need that much pampering, and itcompletely leaves out nuetral smugglers.

any and all mods/skills/or abilities would have to benifit the smugglers as a whole, and can't side withfaction or nonfaction.

perhaps some speed mods in dirtyfighting for unarmed and pistols, so we wouldn't need to require so much on bh pistols to be capped in pistol speed, or fall back on tkm when we want to use some unarmed, but also craft.

underworld 4 could bring us a hidden vendor that only underworld4 smugglers could use...a blackmarket, where we could buy rarer items or smuggler specific clothing, the rarer items can then be sold on the regular market by smuggler or used. (rarer blackmarket items would be costly dont forget, so they wont be wide spread)

just a few idea of more down to earth ideas that benifit us all.

cheers guys, and keep slicing
