Thread: Is concussion shot an area attack?

hi all,

just a quickie....MCommando/ MSmuggler here. Over the last week or so Ive been getting killed MUCH more than usual (even for a commando, LOL). My only explanation is that concussion shot has become an area attack, but that it doesnt stick to all critters in the 'area of effect' - hence you root 1 and aggro lots - the remainder just charge you.

am I right? - if so, boy am I royally scr*wed as a commando/ smuggler

Roots and AI are gimped currently, especialy with AOE weaponary. I had a damn critter run 60m while rooted before it released. It was not lagged, it was hit rooted, attacked for a few seconds than ran towards us.

maybe its just that its not a total paralyse anymore, sounds good to me , gotta use more tactics now... i consider it a bug that will stay there cause everyone is crying nerf. sad but wont stop me.

Commando Smuggler here too. Your commando weapons for the most part have area attacks built in. This is why concussion shot hits everyone in the area. You'll notice the same thing if you use any other state inducer with it. I'm only n.commando now but use the lag pistol all the time when things go very very bad because it will +ROOT+ everything in a nice big radius. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. But overall I'm fairly sucessful with it.

If I'm in a group of people who are just plain nuts the general way things go about is melee uses area to draw agro. I hit concussion, then low blow, then panic, and cycle through anything else I have. Having a good number of npc's unable to run away/to you, and hitting with -80 speed is a nice bonus.

yeah sorry for my lack of info - I'm familiar with the commando weapons and inbuilt stuff - I was using a DK44XT - which is why I was slightly surpirsed at the area aggro I drew; if it was using my PFT, then I would have understood it

Then no It's not area. But if you root a mob too close to others they'll notice, and depending on disposition, will agro you.

MSmuggler/MCommando here. The area of effect of smuggler specials depends on the weapon. The same is true for all ranged abilities, unless it states otherwise (e.g. some carbineer abilities are AoE specifically). If you used a single-mob weapon like a pistol, the special would only effect your target.

This makes some good tactics in crowd control. When someone accidentally pull more than one creature, they usually gather at the same location more of less. So, I switch to my flamethrower (not the plasma one, because of short range) and use concussion shot, which will root all of them (in its cone area of effect).
