Thread: Been gone a few months...please help! :)
After playing SWG since launch, I had to get out of it for a few months because of a lack of money. Being a poor college kid sucks
Here are a list of some of the major changes that I'm just lost on. I'm sure I could figure them out through trial and error in the game...but oh man that'd take forever
* The new armor system. All my uber composite armor is basically worthless now? I've read how different classes get different armor types now. Is the recon armor for Smuggler/Pistoleer worth anything, or is it better to go without armor? Any info on armor for our class would be sweet.
* What's the deal with spice these days? Is Muon basically worth nothing, now that people aren't getting headshotted left and right? Are the other spices worth something now?
* How about slicing...has much changed? Have prices gone up or down...and has demand changed?
* Is pistoleer/smuggler a decent solo combat profession combo (if it ever was
* What do you guys suggest for my other skill points? Should I keep them tied up in Medic, as they are now, or put some into Fencer or TKA? I was always tempted to do that for the defense bonuses, but always wanted to wait to see if the CU messed that up. Did it?
* Pistols...what are the good ones? Any changes, or are they basically the same now?
Lots of questions, feel free to answer as few/many as you want. I'm going to continue to roam the boards and ask people in-game. Any help would be much appreciated!!!!
Also, one more quick question...A lot of my friends have stopped playing SWG or switched servers. Can anyone give me a quick tutorial on switching servers? Where to go to do it...how to not lose items...what server would be the best (basically I'm looking for the most active one with lots of people, Bria or Starsider still?) THANKS

i have also been out of the game for quite a while, but with constant lurking on the forumns, i have been keeping up with things. i'll try to fill you in.
1: the new armor. all i know is that different profs have certs for different type of armor, which sounds less than uber now-a-days. the different types are either more suited towards energy or kinetic damage, with varying layers of elemental resistance, depending on how they are made.
2: spice. i can't help there. my guess would be that healers still need spice, because i believe they use the mind bar for healing. dunno for sure though..
3: slicing. i hear it is worthless, with 7% being the best for speed.
4: pistoleer/smuggler. the cu has made most profession combinations viable. it seems most players that are posting about great templates are bh/smuggler/ with 2 branches of pistoleer, or bh/carbineer/ and 2 branches of pistols. a character builder i saw the other day, but is currently off line, showed that smuggler had some unarmed bonuses, so it might be good with tkm. that would save you the trouble of getting armor, since tkm has the best armor, innate, which is 'built in'
5: sp. whatever you are interested in playing will probably be doable.
6: pistols. no idea.

i was master smuggler / master pistoleer pre-CU... and it sucked. That doesn't even begin to describe how it is nowtry something else

Smuggler = Recon Armor certificate.
Recon Armor, is the armor thats "aimed" at enegy, as in ranged weaponry mostly. It has a weakness towards kinetic, ofcourse, depends how the armorsmith built the armor. Best is to talk to the armorsmith, and find out what options you have and custom build it in cooperation with him.

They are worth a little bit at least. You just have to spend it in cooperation with food, or use it to top of and boost your "abilities". I find it usefull still. Just haver to find what spice fits your gameplay and figure out when you need it

Basicly? Don't slice things. Especially not good things that cost alot. Slicing works funky now IHMO.

Pistoleer/Smuggler, is what you make it to be. Smuggler is a crowd control profession, and pistoleer is kinda the same. You will lack in raw "damage special", but you will be rather efficient. Depending on your type of play.
Last Ditch, is a good special, that has finally been turned into a "last ditch". Use only when low health, and pray.

Perhaps some more ranged professions, as you then build on your ranged template. Perhaps grab legshot form carbineer? Gives you a damage special and a knockdown. And general ranged speed and accuracy..wich you will find usefull.

Depending on the CL, you can find some decent pistols. But you wont find "big hitter" ones...I have a FWG5, I find dang good..it's better than my flamethrower *grins*

use the radial menu on your pre-CU armor to convert it into something useful - make sure you know what you're certified for, you can convert the armor only once.

muon is good for docs and CMs, all the others use pixie

crappy weapons get good slices, uber weapons get NEGATIVE slices... it's all part of the new SOE communist trend "let's make all weapons equal"

Ihave no suggestions... use your respec days wisely and try a few combinations to see what suits you. Take care not to be caught with your pants down when your respec ends.

They are all the same now... if you get BH then high capacity scatter has slightly better DPS, for everybody else its't the DL44 XT.
