Many of you already know how to do this, so this is for those who inisist on making the rest of us copy and paste.

I post here because the only forums I read (usually) are Smuggler and Rifleman.

Follow the steps belowto create your own"clicky" link in these forums:

Important Note Number ONE: I saw one guy post elsewhere that he did NOT have an "Edit as HTML" button beside his "Submit" button. If you do NOT have the "Edit as HTML" button, you can stop reading now, because ya gotta have it for this to work.

Important Note Number TWO: When you EDIT an existing message, the stupid software REMOVES all of the clicky links and you have to RE-ENTER them during the edit. Bah!! So try to get your message right the FIRST time!!

OK, here goes:

1. Write out your entire message completely in the "normal" message window. But anywhere you want a clicky link, just put some characters that you can easily spot later. For example, put "xxxxxxxx" where you want your clicky link to go.

2. Once you have gotten your entire message ready to go, except with "xxxxxxxx" in place of clicky links, Hit the "Edit as HTML" button. You should now see your full message displayed with a lot of weird extra text (HTML "tags"). Things like and <DIV> etc.....

3. Now that you are in HTML mode you can still edit, just like in "normal" mode. Find your "xxxxxxxx" and change it as described below. DO NOT CHANGE ANY OTHER TEXT.

4. Replace your "xxxxxxxx" (or whatever marker you used) with the following:

<A HREF="http://www.usatoday.com"> Click this to go to USAToday </A>

The <A ...> tag is an "Anchor" tag.The HREF thingy tells the computer where to go when the link is clicked. Be sure and put the go-to link in double quotes.
The "Click this to go to USAToday" can be ANY TEXT you like and is what shows up on the screen as your clicky link.

DON'T FORGET THE </a> TAG to tell HTML that your link text ends right there.

(HTML tags are NOT case sensitive: <A> is same as <a>.

5. Finally,press the "Submit Post" button just like for a "normal" message.

I'll leave it to each of you to alter the above example with your own links. It should be obvious what to adapt.

SOME EXTRA NOTES ABOUT CLICKY LINKS (do this after you get the basic clicky links working):

1. Clicky links done like the example above show up in NEW, SEPERATEBROWSER WINDOWS.
If you want your clicky link to show up in the SAME window where you clicked, then add the following extra item to your <A...> tag:

<A TARGET=_top HREF="......."> your clicky text here </A>

That is an underscore in front of the word 'top'. No spaces around the '=' sign. Your link will now REPLACE the current window, and you can use the 'Back' button to go backwards.

2. You can actually use the FONT tag in your "clicky link text" to change the color of your link, like below:

<A HREF="http://www.usatoday.com"> Click here for USAToday! </A>

Notice that you need the tag to quit using the color, and both the <FONT...> and go INSIDE the <A> </A> tags.
