Thread: Saarek: Need recon armor advice

Hey, I see you posting over on the Armorsmith boards so I figure you must know a thing or two! Right now I'm Master Smuggler/Master Carbs so I have access to recon and battle. I've got a suit of bone armor but I'm tired of being a bone clone, you can't color hardly anything on it.
Anyway, so I'm thinking I might switch to recon but I'm nervous about the lower kinetic protection. I don't pvp and lots of pve stuff has large teeth that do the kinetic damage. Of course vs melees I have the special "kite" armor that really reduces the damage.
As a smith what do you recommend? Would unlayered recon be ok or should I be thinking of adding some layers to it? In-game all the smiths are too busy to answer questions but I see you got lots of time to post. Thanks.

As a smuggler you will be able to keep most things out of melee range till your good and ready for them. personally I wear recon when in a group all the time. Since I am also a TKMI wear no armor when I am fighting solo.
As for Battle armor why not wear Maurader armor? It looks MUCH better then bone.

Well, personal experience talking - on my main character on Corbantis, its never been a problem using unlayered Recon. But if you are going to go layered, it will help a lot. You just need to find an AS that will be able to make you a suit of quad-kinetic layered recon and then you'll have a great PvE suit.
However, as someone else in the thread mentionned - you really should be able to keep them at bay.
With me, it comes down to 1 thing. What suits my look?
I'm not even using any armor on starsider when gurk hunting. I have 2 armor bracers (tantel) and thats it. Just for the look. My main Char on COrbantis usually runs around in a full out Ubese suit specific for PvP. High Energy and moderate Kinetic resists. That works REALLY well for my style of play.

Pff, off topic doesn't exist in smuggler forums and recon armor is topical for Smugglers anyway. =P
I've considered marauder armor, but I think it might be a bit to foofy for a trando. Anyway, I like recon because I think a smuggler's place is fighting against enemies with blasters. As mentioned I have the tools to stay out of melee usually so being good against blasters is a bonus. Maybe I would go with marauder if recon doesn't work out though.
I guess my main question is whether I should consider layers or not.

Recon armor just plain sucks.
Nothing like Rebel Assault Armor for that "I'm gonna kick yer ass" look.

Cool, thanks. I will probably try unlayered first then. If I run into trouble I can just get a beefier version later. I'll probably get a new set when the health bonuses work again anyway.
I'm 4000 TKA as well so if it comes down to light duty fighting I get a little protection without any armor at all.
