Thread: Post tallies are telling numbers

I just noticed this tonight as I logged into the forums. The number of posts in each profession forum in enlightening to say the least. Here are the numbers that I saw:

  • Jedi: 1,067,925 posts

  • Bounty Hunter: 481,993 posts

  • Creature Handler: 244,191 posts

  • Smuggler: 217,950 posts

  • Ranger: 120,894 posts

I thought that it was very telling that the professions that have gotten the most percentage of attention/programming are the two that have the most posts.

It was alarming that the next three professions are the ones that have either been nerfed all to hell or have been ignored - as our case. I can only assume that the developers and the ones that decide where their attention is paid have chosen to focus on the most vocal 7% of professions and ignore the other 93%. That is a total of 2,602,880 posts!

Even if you assume that each person has posted an average of 100 times - that is 26,028 people that are being ignored to please 15,499.

I just don't understand why the attention is so lopsided....or am I being naive.

It is my intention to commandeer one of these ships, pick up a crew in Mos Eisley, raid, pillage, plunder, and otherwise pilfer my weasly black guts out......wait, I'm a smuggler - back to crafting spice! Ahh, crap! Can't even do that anymore...guess I'll just sell FP. Can someone please tell me when Han did that in ANY of the movies?

I think its more along the lines of them posting more because they get more attention/content. They simply have a lot more to talk about. With the Smuggler forum, its not like there's a lot here to talk about. The only "content" we have at the moment is a short, small, series of missions at the Talus Space Station, the Jawa Junk mini-game, a couple Smuggler-only pistols, two or three good specials(which get templated, a lot), one "Smuggling" mission on Kassyyyk, the ability to understand the Twi'Lek Lekku language without being a Twi'Lek, and Slicing. That's it.

The Talus mission is okay, but when its over, its over, fast. Afterwards you're told you can run "pratice Smuggling missions" via the Tuskcat Challange with dummy cargo freighters. That last part's just lame and somewhat patronizing.

The Jawa Junk mini-game is horrible(you take "broken" loot to the Jawas and sell it to them for bareley enough credits to repair the damage to your vehicle for just riding it out there).

The good Smuggler specials keep getting templated and abused by non-Smugglers so they can be asses.

The "Smuggling" mission on Kassyyyk involves talking to an NPC in a cave, walking across the Ryattt Trail, using a box, and walking back to the NPC to talk again.

Understanding Lekku is kinda cool, and Language Comprehension could be useful, if players couldn't learn every damned language within five minutes of starting the game, or if players could only learn to Comprehend/Speak two languages other than Basic, which would add more flavor to the game.

Slicing as it is, is incredibly stupid, and rediculously easy. Stupid because all components that are needed are loot only, instead of only the top levels. Rediculously easy because now you don't even need to be able to differentiate between the words "positive" and "negative" to slice gear.

They write nothing for us so what is there to post about? You can only type that they dont have any Smuggler content so many times. The real crime is that there is SO much that could have been done.

There are at least 3 Jedi Themed games out there this game was set in the time when Jedi wher at their weakest and Crime Lords their most powerful and yet we have nearly no Criminal content after 2 years.

All I wanted to point out was the relation of number of posts per profession and how it relates to the professions that have been nerfed all to hell and back. Just a curiosity thing - maybe I made it sound too deep.

those raw numbers are very interesting, however too many assumptions can be made from them.

at this point, without a cross section of the nature of the posts, these numbers are really nothing more then an interesting thing to look at.

i think it's important to keep in mind these are just numerical tallies, and try not to speculate the negative too much. a lot of us are already full of bad majo these days anyhow

Maybe it's because people don't come to post things here like:

OMG I'M TEH ROXXORS I PWNED THE SUXXORS!!!1!11

Yeah, so my 1337 speak isn't so good, but you get the picture. That and we don't regard every skill in this game as an exploit just because it actually does damage to us or the fact that we don't argue over pre or post publish 9 Smugglers since we've always gotten the shaft or maybe because we're not busy using exploits to afk grind on the Rryatt Trail.

We simply have nothing much in game to post about, nor do we have that much to post having to do with other players other than "Please don't get our skills nerfed again".

Maybe if they devoted as much attention to other content professions as they do the top one, we'd see a lot more posts in all forums.

"Jedi claims of being "broken" are like saying "But my TV isn't widescreen! It's broken! My TV can't show high-def pictures in 1080i, it can only do 720i! It's broken!" Meanwhile, crafters are saying "We'd really like to have a TV that's larger than 12" and gets more than 4 channels and doesn't constantly lose vertical control", and entertainers are saying "Can we get some color instead of this B&W piece of junk?" And smugglers? We're listening to radio programs of "The Shadow" and "The Abbot and Costello Comedy Hour" and hearing FDR's Fireside Chats. We don't even HAVE a damn TV, much less a broken one or a "broken" one by Jedi standards. I'd LOVE to be as "broken" as they are." - The Legendary Solo4114
