Since the news of hte posponement of the smuggler revamp and such, i decided to take a break from smuggling buisness and do some other profs, among others dancer, and ive noticed that master dancers charge 5 - 10k for mind buffs, and i just wanted to ask, what resources are needed for a mind buff? reading the sticky about it it doesnt seem that any are.

And i was wondering what do you guys think about the fact that people use 10k on a mind buff but, still wants slices at at 100 pr %?

It's all about competition and what the market will bear.

i see your point butthe fact is that most people duringthe hight ofthe slice price increase movement, most people used hte argument that : You dont have to do as much work pr slice as a doc and dont need the same type of expensive resources. So i figure that if dancers can demand 10k pr mind buff which has 0 resource cost all it takes is 5 mins of your time, which is what i use almost pr slice due to a customers problem with the trade window. So i figure that we should be able to charge at least 8k pr slice (i already do lol) with no complaints.

If people are willing to drop 10k on a mind buff which lasts about 2 hours and has no cost to the dancer , thats a 10k profit, so atleast cording to my sence of value we should be able to charge more for our work

dunno about you but on Sunrunner, in my experience, Dancers and Musicians rarely ask for anything, unless you /tell one out of the blue when they're doing something else. usually it's an unspoken "pay what you think it's worth", and I pay 10k.

having said that I don't even bother answering slicing requests now, after having 5 people balk at my pricing (5k per) i decided that Sunrunner can do with one less slicing Master. the privilege goes to my guild, at no cost.

I always charge between 5-10k for slices, cash only, in the trade window, not tipped. I always tell them what I am charging, and that it is cash only, and that banktips do not count as payment and will NOT be refunded. Some people complain, but I tell them to have a nice day, and if they complain about it more then finally agree, my price goes up. "Prices will change depending on customer's attitude"is in my sig at the end of my slicing rules. Really nice people get free slices.A few times I havehad people try to cheat me,(the banktip scam,) I just smile at them and say, well, thanks for your weapon, I'll surely be able to get more then 10k for this. I screenshot the whole thing, and leave. Not once have I been contacted by a CSR, what is thescammer'sargument gonna be: "Well, I tried to scam this dude, and he stole my weapon! Help!"

Charge what you can get, look at it this way, they will pay 10k for doctor buffs that last 2-3 hours, yet they will not pay 10K to increase the damage/lower the speed of their weapon that will last for the next 50+ hours of use? Doesn't make sense to me.

Good post P_Day, I agree with what you have to say, and wish that I could charge more per slice. My first problem with trying to charge as much as a slice is comparitively worth is that the other smugglers out there will inevitably charge less, and I enjoy the credits as much as I enjoy the social experience looking at other peoples weapons gives me. Second problem is that buffs can be guaranteed, if I were to ask 10 k in order to slice someone's weapon for damage and "accidently" gave them a 15% speed slice then I would feel bad. I made at least 25 k from someone yesterday slicing their weapons untill they could get the perfect slice, that's more than 10 k. Untill we can choose damage or speed, or at least choose to what degree we slice the weapon I don't expect I can get away with charging more than I already do. A little bit about cost and demand, a lot about the random-ness of our work.

One last thing, weaponsmiths who are also slicers charge a whole lot more than 10k per slice for the REALLY good slices. *shrugs* Good post, thanks.

As a dancer and smuggler dabbler, I feel I'm somewhat qualified to answer this question. First of all, I'd have to say, if people complain about your prices, whether it's for slicing or mindbuffing, then screw them. You are providing the service, you set the price. They pay or they don't get the service. If you set your prices too high, you won't get business. The beautiful thing about economics is it balances itself out due to supply and demand. If someone doesn't like my prices, whether for slicing, spices, or a mindbuff, I say, "have a nice day" and move on.

Now, as far as mindbuffing for 10k, I don't generally charge that much, although I have from time to time. While mindbuffing doesn't cost as *much* as doctor buffing, there are still some costs associated. I try to get my mindbuffs done as quickly as possible for the client. This causes my action to be used up *very* quickly. Therefore, whenever I'm dancing, I almost always pay a doctor for a buff, or I'm drinking accaragm. Both of these things cost money. Granted, not as much as doctor supplies. But, it's still a cost, as is my time. While it's true that a dancer can buff up to 19 people at once, that rarely happens. And, when it does, it's usually in the case of a guild hunt, in which case I never charge. We're all helping each other out as part of a team, so I make no money whatsoever from that. On the other hand, when I'm buffing the general public, it definitely costs me more time than a doctor does. A doctor can sell a 10K buff in 1/2 to 1/3 of the time that I sell a mind buff. So, I could be wrong because I'm not a doctor. But, I'd be willing to bet that, on average, after an hour's worth of buffing, a doctor has turned a greater profit than I have. Also, it's important to note the supply and demand factor. The truth is, finding an entertainer buff can be extremely difficult at times. Doctor buffs are incredibly easy to find. I can't remember the last time I wanted one and couldn't find them. But, I can count *numerous* times that I've tried to get a dancer and musician buff. I count myself as lucky if I find one, much less both of them, since I, unfortunately, cannot buff myself. Also, as we all know, the mind is the first thing to go, and the easiest thing to target and kill in PvP, which, arguably makes the mindbuffs more important in some respects. So, because of the dearth of entertainers giving mindbuffs, the market is able to bear mindbuffs in the price range of 10k, simple economics.

Even though I'll be extraordinarily happier when the hologrind is over, I almost suspect that the price of mindbuffs will go down because more masters will be in the Cantinas. Most left in droves because they couldn't stand the atmosphere, myself included. But, even if I can't sell a mindbuff for as much as I used to, I'm more than willing to give up some of my income to be able to enjoy dancing with master dancers and listening to master musicians who actually care about what they're doing again. It's worth it, to me. So, if I'm correct, you may see the price of mind buffs going down. Besides, with the high degree of wealth these days, 10K really isn't all that much. What I don't understand, personally, is why in heck people are willing to pay 2 million credits for AV-21's. You'll never see me doing that. But, apparently, that is the price the market bears right now, so I have to live with it and don't feel like I have a right to complain. Because, if people are willing to pay, who am I to say the price should be lowered? I feel the same regarding mind buffs and slicing. Prices will go down if people refuse to pay it. But, in the interim if you find one or two annoying people who lambast you for charging what you charge for slicing or mind buffing, then just don't provide them with the service. They'll go around trying to get a slice or mind buff elsewhere and see that they aren't really going to get it unless they pay what you ask them to pay.
