I was wondering about this for a long time. Do you like thiefs skills like hidding and pick pockets? Should it be a cool feature for smugglers?

theft is not a roguish skill. Smugglers have honor, theifs have some I'm sure but much less.

Illegally transporting fugitives & contraband doesn't sound terribly honorable.
That having been said, I have no interest in picking pockets . . . let me loot corpses that I slay . . . now THAT'S rogueish!

In my view, pick pocketing could be a nice feature forsmugglers who knows how take advantage of his quickness on a fight for example. They can get small objects and even credits while fighting. Not from Players, only NPCs.
Hidding in the crowd should be a nice feature, like the mask scent on scouts and rangers. You can avoid NPCs easily, even if you have a TEF. If you intend to attack, it may get you a bonus
And, this give us an interesting theme for debate about the profession. What is the meaning of honor to a smuggler?
You do the wrong stuff to get paid, and don't careif mystuff will be used for good or bad porpouses. That is the way I do my RP. Something I noticed about the game, is the smugglers being seeing as heroes, instead of criminals. Neutral smugglers can deal with Rebels and Imperials w/o caring much about what will happen next.
Factioningis not a problem at all to a smuggler, it is a fun factor. Factioned smugglers can buy perks, sell points with less trouble. At this point, I think that honor counts a bit more, because you have something to fight for, no matter if you rebel or imperial. Besides it, I think it is all for profit.
About the Empire using criminals, there is an interesting quote from "Specter from the past", by Timothy Zahn, that I have to found again... I will post here later.
