One of my biggest fears with SWG: Jump to lightspeed, was that the ships would be simplistic.. Very simpe and lacking in depth, like the current ground vehicles we have!
Fortunate, I was way wrong!
I can't belive that ships will actually have aninterior!!! I can't wait to take my mates, with me out in space who are gonna be my crewman
Im gonna find a loyal wookie to be my ship mate, and make him gun the turrents!!
Wow...
But.. More than that, there is something else!
SWvault.ign.com preview: "YT-1300 does allow passengers to roam around the interior ship while it is in flight. It can be furnished much like a flying house or cantina. The interior of the YT-1300 is fully rendered. When you launch your YT-1300, any people in your group will be placed aboard the transport as passengers when launched. The group leader will be pilot by default. The YT-1300 has two gun turrets (lower and upper) and they can be populated by other passengers flying inside the YT-1300. Move through the interior to the ladder and click on the ladder for a radial menu that allows you to select the upper or lower turret. Passengers can even visit the cockpit with the pilot. The pilot can also get up and roam about the ship. When this happens, the ship continues to fly in a straight line on it's last course and speed while pilotless."
note: The Falcon, started out as a YT-1300, but it loosk different than Han's ship, because... "I made allot of special modifications myself"
Just think about it! taking your mates with you into space... Its gonna be awsome!
But this part is exciting too:
"Professions: Four new professions. First the three pilot professions: Rebel Pilot (called Alliance pilot currently), Imperial Pilot, Basic Pilot (which Julio referred to as the Privateer/Smuggler Pilot - a non-aligned pilot class). Each of those three classes of pilots gets specific types of ships they can pilot. Skill points for pilot classes are separate from the standard 250 SPs for the terrestrial professions. They do not spill over, count towards or against, or otherwise impact terrestrial-based SPs in any way. This also means that anyone can be a pilot without having to worry about giving up terrestrial-based skills in order to earn piloting skills.
The fourth profession is the Shipwright. At present, Shipwright is a terrestrial-based profession, but it has not been decided if extra SPs will be added to the standard 250 to allow people to expand into this area or force people to drop existing skills to allow for this new profession.
All four new professions showed up in the skills list as basic professions, which means there are no pre-requisite professions required to obtain these new professions. However Julio did say that the Shipwright is probably going to wind up being tied to an Artisan profession like a Droid Engineer or an Architect. Julio did state quite clearly that "all options were open" in terms of the possibility of adding SPs to allow people room to obtain the shipwright profession."

Do you think this means that this new non factional proffesion will have smuggler content?
According to IGN, there are gonna be 4 ships for each faction, but a total of 15!!!
Rebel: X, A, Y and B-Wing!
Imperial: Tie fighter varriants and possibly an imperial shuttle!
Do you think that there will be smuggler ships? I remember some BHs suggested once, a varriant to the Boba fetts slave one, for BHs only!
Maybe the YT-1300 is Smuggler exclusive?
Well.. At any rate im excited about this:-)

Aye, the whole expansion so far for the most part sounds awesome, I'm extremely excited about it(and hoping to get in the beta*wink, wink*.) Unfortunately, there's so many places that SOE(Or any computer gaming company, this is definately not limited to SOE by any means) can take this wonderful idea the wrong way. Let's hope that's not the case!

Yes we are all excited.
But, just so you know, you will not be able to take other players in all ships. So far, the only ship we know this is possible is in the YT-1300. Hopefully there will be others, but that is it for now.
I think there are only 4 or so confirmed ships, so each day will be exciting to see what else we get.
See you in space, soon.

I'm in the same boat as all of you, I'm really excited about the potential for the expansion. Let's hope that it isn't all form and no substance.

I'm just as excited as you are, I'm a victim here :-) I have watched the eight new beta vidoes that have opened up across all swg information spots, I have actually watched them all with quick-time in frame by frame action to make sure I haven't missed anything. I have also found from the IGN Members onlyinterview that shortly after release the YT 2400 will be release and the Skiff,I imagine the skiff will be a vehicle, and from what I remember of return of the Jedi it fits more than one person. That would be awesome. Thanks Jenky for including the SWvault I haven't read it today and this new information gives me all kinds of ideas and answers all kinds of questions... I do hope that they don't have the imperial shuttle in game yet, I hope they include the lambda class shuttle as a neutral freighter, I'd hate to have that reason to join a faction.
If I'm in the ship with my friends and they are rebel and I'm a neutral, and they get in a fight with a bunch of imperials, can I still get in the gun wells and help them?
This Jump to Lightspeed is going to be so awesome, it looks like it's reason enough to go to the fan fest. I can't wait. I'm so way excited that there is finally a fit sequal for the X-wing Alliance (or X-wing vs Tie Fighter) game, and I'm even more excited that it's part of this MMORPG Yay!!!!

I don't want to belittle you, but this has been a pet peeve of mine for a long time. There is no "n" in "turret."
It's kind of like the "duel" instead of "dual" thing. It just irks me. And if one person starts to spell "turret" correctly because of my deeds, then it will all have been worth it.
Now to comment on your post:
"Maybe the YT-1300 is Smuggler exclusive?"
God, I hope not. Enough people want multi-person ships in general and the Falcon specifically that this would be a horrible idea. Imagine the number of new smugglers we'd see if this were the case.
Plus, anyone can buy a transport in Star Wars. The 1300 was just Solo's ship of choice. Some used other ships like the Firespray (like Fett's Slave I) and even bulk freighters. However, Corellian ships like the YT serieswere popular for their durability. The YT-1300 was very old at the time of ANH, and a well-maintained ship would last a long time, as evidenced by the Falcon. Most of the problems with the Falcon came from using non-standard parts.
The only ships that should be exclusive to anyone should be those that are in the faction-specific piloting trees. Any neutral ship should be purchasable by anyone.

I wouldn't go that far. I'm taking your definition of "neutral ships" to be non-imp and non-reb. If it's not then the rest of this post is pretty useless. I believe it is though so I'll keep typing
High level privateer pilots (what I saw the neutral called in one preview and like better than neutral) should certainly have ships available to them that neither Rebs or Imps are able to get. If being a Reb or Imp pilot got you full access to all thenon-faction ships, it would be almost pointless to go privateer since you would only be able to access 1/3 of the ships instead of 2/3. In that case it would soley depend on the other skills and I don't see those being as much of a selling point on the professions since they will probably balance out. I would support restricting each type of pilot to their profession type ship only with the only exception being a group of starter ships. In fact, what follows would be something that I would almost consider ideal for ship alocation.
Basically, I'd like it if instead of dividing the ships to 5 for each type of pilot (Reb, Imp, Privateer as I've seen mentioned most places), make it 4 and have 3 "starter ships" for people to start off on. Everyone would automatically get certs for the starter ships and they would be the only 3 ships that everyone had access to regardless of pilot type. Have these starter ships be something like the Z-95, alight Freighter and a third generic ship (maybe the Lamda class shuttle since both Imps and Rebs are listed as using it). Do not put the YT-1300 here though. The privateer class will need an iconic ship from the films to fly just as much as thetwofactions and should get this as one of their certifications. With this system each pilot would have 7 ships to choose from rather than just 5, which would also help improve diversity in my mind. Three ships completely removed from any association with one set of pilot skills would also keep people guessing as to someone's faction status.
The above would work for me. It would give each class some high name Star Wars vessels and also keep it from deteriorating into thousands of YT-1300s, etc all over space. Of course I'm not a dev and don't have any more info than anyone else, so this is all wishful thinking on my part. I believe that it's key that the Privateer (neutral) pilot has ships that no one else can fly though.

Hopefully, they will alot enough skill points to master the privateer and your choice of faction pilot! That is what I plan on doing, if so allowed.

Good poist DragoonShao, I agree that this is what should be done in order to make the three different factions iconic in their own right. I have heard that these require no skill points, I hope that's only the case with one profession if someone wants to pilot their fill of rebel craft and neutral craft I want to see their ground skills limited a bit to keep balance. I like the idea of having those three ships a free for all, I think it'd be appropriate and in line with what we've seen in the movies and books.
