hello. obviously i havent posted n the year or so ive been playing as a smuggler, but it has sumwhat hit me about our pricing. i am a master smuggler on bria, and to me, i believe our pricing should be a lil higher then what it is. why should we let people leave with a full suit of comp armor sliced for 30k when they buy it for 200k+. i believe armorsmiths and weaponsmiths are making a profit selling sliced weapons when we, receive nothing. is it just me, or does anyone else agree? slicing equipment, especially encumbrance slices, is worth its share in creds as, or close to the same in a full suit of comp armor. i feel like we are taken for granted, along the lines of entertainers n such.
incase some of you are wondering money isnt an issue for me anyways, i just feel that we are taken for granted ...

Im also on bria, and I make my own tools and buy wuks and auks. cost me about 500 cred per slice for materals. amd i charge 150c per % so if its a 10% slice its 1500 that three times the amount it costs to do. But i average about 20-30% most of the time thats 3000 or 4500 per slice. THATS one heck of amark up. If you choose to charge more tell people cause you will have people pitching better to tell them "150c per%" as soon as they tell you.

5k-10k is much more common now. If the customer is not happy with that, let him. Last time I checked slicing was illegal.
So there is no Walmartlike discount.

An even better solution is to buy crates of weapons from weaponsmiths, slice them all and put them on your own vendors. There is no reason you couldn't be the one raking in all those markups.
If you slice 25 power hammers for 125k (5k per) that may seem like a deal.
Now buy a crate of them for 70k-100k, slice all of them and sell them on your vendor.
One 3x% damage sliced powerhammer will go for well over 300k on my server right now. You will more than likely get 3-4 of these out of that crate, along with plenty of respectable "grind" quality damage and speed slices which you can sell at a higher mark up than you would get by slicing for the public and anything under 20% believe it or not will still sell for 10k over base price.
People are willing to pay more for things that they know about up front.
There is an interesting discussion over at the weaponsmith boards about slicing contracts right now. It seems they don't like me there.

true, slicing is illegal, so why shouldnt we raise our prices, ya know? and the way things are going we may be the only ones with vendors to actually sell our sliced goods .. so in the end i spose it all comes back to us n what we decide; vendor wise.

Taken as mugs sometimes we are, I'm sick of being asked by Weaponsmiths and Armoursmiths to slice 200-400 items for 1k per slice, i don't waste any time telling them where to go, cheeky sheight bags. I don't slice for anyone now, just can't be bothered with the hassle lately.
It's a good idea to slice your own stuff and stick it on a vendor, wish i could place vendors but my character is almost complete and i don't want to drop anything to get artisan.

I felt this way too, and got the idea to make a deal with the WS i was working for :
I slice for free, but i keep one weapon per crate (or per 2 crates, depending what they are) so that i can either it myself or sell it to be paid consequently for my job. He figured that was very fair and not making him out of business since his name was still on the weapon.

I factor the value of my time into this as well. Simply put, making 1000 credits on a couple of items isn't worth the effort needed to find my tools, pull everything out of a crate, and then focus and make sure I don't cut the wrong wire. Forgeddaboudit. WS/AS guys go through the GUI dance once and thenset their Factories to work. Doctors macro their buffs. I have to do (almost) everything manually now, so you're damn sure that I'm going to charge extra for that.
So if I do slice for paying customers (which is nearly never now), it's for at least 10k per item. I don't get a lot of volume sales, but forthe half-dozenor so thatI do in a stint, I get compensated for my time. Simple.

I've done some contractslicing jobs. As long as they're offering the same as I would chargefor a public sliceI couldn't be happier. 125k/crate, tools provided on site, more than 8 crates at a time, adds up fast. Not being a triple-master, or a commercial WS, this has been the best way to make serious bank in the shortest amount of time. Makes the brain a bit numb, but that goes away when I'm done and look at my account balance.

Actually, as a smuggler, you're getting ripped off, just not in the way you think you are.
fifteen bucks a month, one month at a time.

I have a mantra now: "10k or go away,...10k or go away,.."
With the easier money making opportunities out there: Janta/Mokk missions, killing meatlumps for loot kit items, resource harvesting,..why slice? I mean, okay maybe some of us can't do the solo Janta/mokk missions...and yes the loot kit item market is down turning (but his is usually the case in the loot business),...and resource harvesting is time consuming.....but when compared to slicing...bah.
This debate has been around for a while, back when prices jumped form 1k to 3k (and then it was 3k vs. % slicing). All I can say is look at the inflation. Look at doctors and 3 hour buffs. Look at resource prices. A business sentient that does not keep up with the times will get buried in time. If you ain't movin, your dead.
Think of this: A blue rug was running for 3 million credits at one point in the loot market (SWG version of the stock market I guess

If you want to charge 1 meeeeellion dollars for a slice,..do it! Don't let people dictate your business practices. However, as a word of advice,...cheap slices buy cheap things.

I should have just stuck to Comp Sci.
