I don't see why we can't tinker with ship equipment? That would make sense, and be quite fun too!

Yes, i was curious about the ship tinkering as well - or maybe let the smugglers be the reverse engineers?

Not sure for reverse enginering, that seem like a very specialised things to do that fit better a shipwright, but to make some....personal modifications on a ship engine or weapons or shields that maybe the Empire would not agree with, it seem very fitting indeed.

That would be cool, if we could mod our own stuff. Only I don't know if I like Smugglers being the reverse engineers because then we'd be getting stopped for slicing AND RE-ing, and we'd have to carry twice as much gear on us to do the work of both (well, some of us... I always carry a small supply of slcing tools). I don't know if I like that. **Warning, broad statement:**We are supposed to be the ones trapsing about the stars, the Shipwrights are supposed to be the guys building the things.

Regarding slicing vehicles, it's just too wierd. Technically there'd be a dozen things on a vehicle you could slice. I don't like that I could go, 'whoop, there ya go... I sliced your vehicle. 10% to turningness.' The Vehicles are fine. If you want a 'speed sliced swoop', get an AV-21 (only because, I hear they are faster?). There's no real reason to go with any vehicle other than you like how it looks. If you don't care how it looks, then you get a swoop because it's the fastest (of the first three vehicles).

The idea about slicing ship parts and such things have been around, but to be honest, unless we only can slice our own stuff I don't like the idea. I mean that's just what smugglers need right now, more slicing for the public! We could as well change the title from master smuggler to master slicer.

While I am not a smuggler myself I had a thought (that others have probally had) to allow smugglers to slice more items.

They should be allowed to slice ship componants to improve some of their stats. I feel this fits in line with Han Solo making "special modifications" to the Falcon.

Maybe they could be allowed to slice surveying/harvesting tools also.

Taking it a few steps further they should even be allowed to slice vehicles and possibly harvesters.

This would not take away from the crafters who make these items because you still would want the best items to begin with, as you currently do with weapons or armor now.

Just an idea... what does everyone else think?

It is a real shame revers engineering was given to shipwrights (SW), however I think I have the reason for that move. Within limited time everyone will have the ship they want to use, high end TIEs, rebel ships and the Han Solo plug, since these don't break, all there's left for SWs are individual components. This is most likely also when the novelty idea of a new profession weares off, so they'll become a bit like a slicing-only smuggler, maybe the occasional order for a ship blueprint, but nothing like the current state where everyone wants a starship.

So, fair enough, SWs gets their reason to stay, however direct slicing of individual components should be added. We don't have to do more slicing on that account, you never have to do any slicing unless you want to. Both rebels and imps have specials which for a period changes power circulation giving either defense of offence a boost, with a chance of complete failure, I see this as a pilot ability, temporarily change. Where the pilot can maybe unplug a fuse, the smuggler would know how to cut and rebind wires for a permanent boost. The justification is even a moot point, for some reason the wooden staffs I've come across made by cavemen has wires, wires the Empire says they must have, and even the cavemen abide by these rules.

Give us component slicing! It must be less complicated to figure out the shortcircut wiring of electic components, than it is to have your brain bleeding over why cavemen put wires in their wood staffs.
