Hi all, well i recently mastered rifles to go with my long standing TKM skills, was going o add the pistol defence tree for PvP. but over last couple of days i have go to thinking about things...

TKM/rifle is a powerful combination, i can solo virtually anything in the game given preparation and appropriate equipment, ok, so i have gone ns hunting, spent more time on janta's and mokks than a sane person would like to admit, and its just getting dull, i can run off and do some PvP, but i only do that every now and again, so i thought about smuggler.

fewreasons, currently i really need to be buffed to do anything properly, and then there is no challenge, so just target, spam SS2/HS3 or UH3. move on to next.

i do get involoved in grp hunts etc with my PA, so need some combat.

As leader of my guild i tend to finance the new players quite a bit to help them out, this is proving to be expensive at the moment, so still need to earn plenty of cash.

and finally i want to be able to do something that doesn't involve a buff and blasting anything that moves, whilst still bring in credits (god damn the economy) tried crafting (architect) and didn't really take to it, resource gathering for architect was a nightmare.

oh and i love to RP so anything that will help will be good.

Im looking at the triple master prof so i can still do janta/mokk with devastating efficiency when im short of cash, but want smuggler for the fun of the game. my only worry is i see fewer and fewer smugglers in the server (eclipse) i know the prof is broken im used to broken elements of the game, but is smuggler going to be any fun? and do they make cash so i can finance my guild? (i'm planning a mall with our merchant so vendors not a problem)

Is Smuggler fun? Yes.

Good for RP? Yes.

Triple Master good for general PvE? Yes. (Augment ranged defense with SEAs, rings and/or BE-backpack).

Good for income? Well, you stated that there are fewer smugglers on Eclipse now, which equals less competition for you. Hike your price to 10k/slice and sell some FP when you're not out hunting jantas/mokks. Spices are too much of a hassle for the little revenue it yields. Naturally, selling any worthy SEAs or good Krayt tissues will generally bring in more doubloons, but whos to say you cant do both?

thanks for reply,

i think i have made my mind up, better for my guild, more fun for me, more things to do. and i dont' have to spend 4 hours travelling from vendor to vendor looking for decent sliced weapons.

Just got to think about how to best go about the transfer now (shame to drop rifles so soon after mastering, ah well)

Wise decision. Despite the disappointment we all share here on the forums, very few will claim Smuggler isnt a fun class to play. Just having the Master title is a thrill.

Welcome, fellow smuggler.

quick question about template stuff really.

I will be playing smuggler for both RP and another way of making a living, so for the latter, what would people recommend, i can either go triple master, and get some slicing contacts and then also slice in busy towns, or i can get contracts and set up a shop (heavy cash requirement at first, but could be lucrative if i get the customers)

just wondered what people find the better approach? shop has its benefits due to earning whilst not online but then so does the triple master. TKM can bring in extra cash easily enough with mokk/janta missions, so i would drop parts of pistoleer. But shops are only successful with a good customer base, i would be selling primarily sliced goods, so i could also sell them to a merchant at a small loss in profits, without the hassle of advertising. all confused with this one, too many possabilities.

Generally, i charge 10k/slice and 140/FP, so money flows in quick. Jantas/Mokks are easy as pie with TK, and pistoleer with a good DE-10 and FD is essential for elder NS loot. Krayts can be done either way, though i use TK on them.

No shortage of cash here, and im a triple master. All boils down to what other professions you're going to pick up and what items you're going to sell.

I wish I had read it earlier, the posts here are correct, but if you were looking to help your guild and be able to make money unbuffed you should have gone rifle/doc

Smuggler is "nifty", I love it for what it could be, I hate it for what it is and I loathe the player populace for what they think it is.

A fun "star warsy" template was this. Master smuggler/Pistoleer 0-0-4-3/ BH pistols 4.

Your defenses aren't very good but can be supplemented, you get all the useful pistol specials and are capped in speed with good accuracy.

I had that for a while but gave up BH pistols in pursuit of the Tri Master because as "star warsy" as the former template was, melee is still better in this game - exception rifles.

Thx again for all the replies, this will be my 3rd template in a year, and i have to say the smuggler's board has by far the friendliest and most helpfull ppl i hae come across yet. so ty.

I will stick with going tri master, i might even me able to get a friend of mine who is training WS to let me use a vendor but anyway going to do alittle janta hunting then get a good start on smuggler this weekend.

Optimistically smiling as always (or is that gormless, i forget)

I have been a "tripple-threat" for quite some time now, and I must say I enjoy it completely!

Pistols has been my big let down, and I mainly hang onto it to balance out my defenses and keep up my RP persona. I just snagged a +25 pistol speed AA though, so things could be looking up as soon as I findsome max condition min resist armor gloves.

TKM is a blast, and makes gobs of XP/Cash. Plus, in a "leave your weapons at the door" cantina brawl, its nice to know that you'll be one of the few standing.

Smuggler is, well, its smuggler! I wouldnt have it any other way (except revamped, of course).

PvP can be a bit dissapointing, but we Smuggs arent really meant to be the type who go in looking for a toe-to-toe fair fight. "/duel;[your choice of knockdown attacks depending on range];/tellpet follow;/pause .5;/target MSE;/pause .5;/detonatedroid;/feign" is more like it.

My favorites:

  • Adding TKM's Force of Will to Feign Deathmeans you often forget to worry about insuring, and its ok.

  • Having TKM's meditate means you never clone anymore. Ever.

  • Master Pistoleer's DE-10 equipped and certified means you will either never be troubled by RP PvP, or you will always be troubled by non-RP PvP...

  • Having a DX2, Mod Republic, FWG-5, Geo Sonic, and VK on your toolbar means if it has a soft spot, chances are you'll hit it.

  • Loads of fun using things in staredowns like:"/sayEchuta!;/echuta;/setcurrentSkilltitle combat_smuggler_master;/pause 1;/setcurrentSkilltitle combat_pistol_master;/pause 1;/setcurrentSkilltitle combat_unarmed_master;/pause 1;/setcurrentSkilltitle"

  • TKM + Underworld +Colonel in GCW Faction = grindingFP and selling at 120-140 cr per for the same per-hour of grind payout as dantooine sologroups without the need for sologroups (nearly ensuring the same income after combat revamp).

If you don't want me to "play the forums," then I suggest you make time playing the game more rewarding and less repetitive than "playing" here!
READ THIS before telling me I cannot complain about Smuggler
