Chapter 10: The Deadly Katarn
So I decided it was time for me to take to the Ryatt trail and do the trials. Naturally I got bored and decided to wander down into the shadowlands. I was unprepared for anything going on down there but persisted anyway. First I wandered through the Webweaver trails, and was overwhelmed by the creatures.
I resorted to my smuggler tactics. Run. I rooted them and panic shot them and ran. When I was near death I would feign death. I made it into the shadowlands and continued with my tactics. I was certain I would be the reknown smuggler who SOLOED the Katarn.
And there he was, nestled in the deep woods of the shadowlands. The beast known to the locals as the Katarn. I hastefully reached for my blaster and quick-drew a well placed stopping shot on him. The shot went low and struck him in the knee caps, he moaned in shock! He was rooted in place and was easy pickings for me.
I moved in closer avoiding the other nestlings in the area and fellow hunters who would love nothing more then to loot this precious blaster from my cold dead hands. The Katarn was full of fear and tried to flee but I was not prepared to let the creature get away... no... not right yet.
Just as he began to move forward, dragging his leg behind him, I placed a panic shot between his eyes and he swung his head around searching for me... He persisted on. I got into a better vantage point and shot again at him, my blaster was doing little against his coat, and he knew it...
I was in over my head and began to back up looking for an escape route. He saw me flinch and moved forward trapping me. I tried to feign death but he knew, he was no fool... I decided the best choice for now would be to resort to my old techniques. Drawing my blaster I took well aim and placed a devastating concussion shot into his head. He was dazed and confused.
I took haste and ran like the wind. At this moment I knew I had picked a fight with a creature more lethal than any normal man... a creature worthy of a true hunt... This would not be the last time we met.
