I'm reposting thid here so it at least gets seen................

(its gotta be seen to be flamed , right!?!:smileyvery-happy

My idea.............................

All we need ,jus to begin with , is to make certain items / weapons etc highly illegal , which only a smuggler can move around , players could then do the deals themselves with the smugglers to get these illegals moved around , keeps it nice an simple , and away from *terminal delivery missions* crud ,

And if you try to travel as a non smuggler with one of these illegals on you , you cant use a shuttle or starport til you off load the item to a smuggler.

(and lets face it we all know its more fun to do the deals amongst our selves!)

eg , / rifleman is huntin on tat gettin krayt pearls? , he gets a nice haul , and decides to go and stash em in his house on corellia.

When he gets to the starport he can't get in because he is notified he is carrying an illegal item , which is not allowed to be transfered off planet.

He goes to the cantina and sees a smuggler (looking extremely cool) and approaches him to see if he will transport said pearls to Ccorellia for him(for a fee mutually agreed on) ,

said smuggler agrees , pearls are traded , rifleman and smuggler agree to meet at a wp on corellia.

plus , /

introduce code where you have a say 1 in what ever chance of bein jumped by the local planetary busys' when you take off , and arivve at your destination (because you are smuggling now , woooooo) you get scanned and can either get away with it , or if your found out , fight your way out , which will give you a tef for a certain amount of time in that sector , or you can try an bribe your way out of the situation(downer bein you could end up payin more in bribes than you're getting paid for the delivery)

And we must actually launch ships for the space/smuggling parts of the mission , not just travel , helps with the rp side of things too.

Jedi may need to group with us to be able to travel from one system to another!!!!!!!JOKE , could you imagine the reage if they had to rely on us to travel!!

Downsides , /

people may jus ask us to craft new *permits* , but then we might as well not smuggle.

Players may just move their houses/business' to where the resources /lewt is , thus nullifying the need for us to smuggle.

Some people may tear the a$$ out of what they charge to smuggle , thus killing the trade before it gets going.

We could end up in tell hell again , as we are swamped with offers of work.

Some people may accuse us sometimes of taking their goods , but thats the same as slicing , and why would we do that and deny ourselves the lucrative trade opportunities , if there are any problems people are welcome to submit complaints as they are able to do with any other aspect of the game.

So , to summarize...........

All that needs to be done is to make cetain ingame items non transferable between certain areas /planets/systems , unless they are on a smugglers person.

smugglers / players strike their own deals for movement of said items.

simple easy smuggling.

you may now tear this to shreds..........

/ducks.

While the intention is good you think people will trust others with valuable goods?

I certainly wouldnt.

Well ,we do too a certain point with slicing dont we??, and if there ever is any trouble/mucking about, call csrs' / lodge a complaint, why do a smuggling contract , and keep somebodies goods , jus to get yourself banned from the game.

(I wouldnt do a runner with somebodies stuff , I dont wanna get banned!!)

Surely its gotta be more fun/diversity/immersion for the players to interact with each other for the smuggling missions , rather than the s**t they'll give us with terminal missions.("deliver to this anonymous npc stood by this flag!!").

Well i only go to smugglersd i know and trust but thats just for a quick trade slice and trade back.

In your scheme its trade see you in a bit then hope they show up at coords.

Why not use your idea but the person just needs a lift from the smuggler isntead of handing over the goods?

This idea would work but for ultimate trust would need some more safe guards thrown in, SOE would need to introduce a new container called say "Package". This container holds 20 items and can be sealed by the owner, so only he can open it (or a smuggler can slice it :smileyhappy

Then instead of a normal trade we need a "deal" option, the deal involves transfer of the package, along with an agreement of where and when it is to be delivered. There also needs to be an escrow option so if the smuggler fails on the delivery there is a monetry cost to him.

EG: Rifleman places his 5 pearls in a "package" and locks it. He seeks out a Smuggler and does a "deal" for the smuggler to move the package to a waypoint on Corellia. The Rifleman requests 1 million credits escrow, the smuggler requests 20k for delivery.

The deal is done, and the package transferred to the smuggler at the cost of 1 million, if the smuggler fails to deliver or even slices the package in transit to see whats in it, then the deal fails and the smuggler loses his money to the Rifleman, if the smuggler delivers to waypoint on time then the smuggler recieves his 20k.

Yup , thats a good simple workable addition , I like it , so the customer actually hands over a locked container , and the smuggler wont even know whats in it because the customer is the only person who can open it , (no point in nickin it then is there , soi that covers that)good insurance i'd say , if I dont know what im transportin i'm less likely to wanna do a runner ,(adds to the mystery aswell , ooooooh!)also the idea of havin like a deposit on the goods so if the smuggler dont deliver he gets *fined* by the customer for not completing the job , (tho I think a mill is too high , I for one wouldnt be able to afford that , nor would a lot of players , and it would gate the smuggling content to the rich only then) , keep the deposits and the delivery prices sensible so at least the trade/business of smuggling can flourish , 30 to 100k per insurance deposit/payment for completion of job would be about right i'd say , dependant on what the client wants smuggled.(if the client wants to divulge that info , that is , good for role play).

so........

to summarize , again

1 , client approaches smuggler , "can you smuggle this container for me to dant plz" , client and smuggler agree between them selves the deposit and payment on delivery price , say10000k dep , an 30000k on delivery(plus return of deposit)

2 , smuggler agrees , (client and smuggler open up new trade(smuggling) window) , client deposits container in smugglers half of window , smuggler deposits 10000k in clients half of window.

both agree to meet at set destination asp.

2 a , smuggler MUST launch ship to smuggle(coded in) not travel , (essential to the immersion i'd say)so he has to run the possible gauntlet of local system authorities whilst he is smuggling contraband , if detected , the usual scenarios present themselves , run , fight , or bribe ,

If you run and get caught , you get fined ,

if you fight and lose , you get fined ,

if you atempt a bribe and fail , you get fined ,

smuggled goods are not confiscated , that'd be a bit much I think ,

just the possibility of havin to run the local gauntlet with fines is enough i'd say.

3 , client and smuggler meet at destination , trade again , smuggler only hands over goods on recipt of 40000k (10000k deposit and 30000k payment for job completed).
