Thread: Side Professions for a M. Smuggler M. Pistols

I took two lines of Carbineer. When I need the extra range, the Elite is a great gun that's comparable to the E11 Mk. II, which is the master carb gun. With just those two lines of carbineer, I'm actually more accurate with my carbines than I am with pistols, though pistols are still faster. I also have a nice +9 carb speed tape that knocks me just over +100 speed. I also have the FS ranged speed line to use up the remaining 4 points.

It's a good template. I like it a lot. Leg Shot does more damage than Body Shot, and the KD and snare from carbineer are also great to have. You can alternate snares when you also use the one from Smuggler. Accuracy, speed and the defenses are great with this template.

By the way, I have found the upside to the Unarmed Requirement for Smuggler. With this template, I sit at 200 in both defenses while unarmed. A definite bonus for when the hunters finally are able to come after me.

I Originally chose Master Marksman and Scout 2000, however i then changed it to BH 0040 for the KD and Confusion shot. You also get more defence too.

I've seen several different templates out there with many different opinions. I've decided that Master Pistols/Master Smuggler is where I want to be. However, I'm not sure what other professions I should use. Pre-CU, I had medic so I could use stims. Now, however, everyone can use stims. I'm thinking of going Master Marksmen and a tree of Carbine for the Acc and speed extras. However, being able to heal myself is very important since I like to solo a lot...so I'm not sure if I should drop medic or not. Basically, post-CU, is having medic worth not having master marksmen and part of another ranged profession? Or are the accuracy and speed mods way too important to be dropped since everyone can use stims now? Thanks a lot

The stims are better heals then anything but master doc or master cm. Drop medic.

You could pick up 1 line in Bounty Hunter. Here's what I recommend:


Investigation: Would let you use Duelist Stance and join with a friend (if you wanted) to slaughter Jedi.


Weapons Training/BH Carbine: Gives you Scatter Shot for groups of stuff and level 2 Critical Shot for a decent punch to your pistols. Also comes with a bit of defense and General Weapon mods.


Subjugation/BH Pistols: Ah...good ol' Knockdown. No explaination needed there. The line also comes with Confusion Shot which has a chance to Stun and Dizzy your target. Also contains defenses and Gen. Weapon mods.


You could also pick up a tiny bit of Carbineer or Rifleman for some mods and skills. You might even be able to master Marksman for the lil' bit of stuff up in that box.


But I agree with Raanan. Medic alone isn't worth it unless you continue through to Doctor or Combat Medic...which becomes an issue of picking up and entirely new elite profession.


I suggest one of the Bounty Hunter lines above. It will leave you with 3 skill points which you can put into 3 Force Sensitive boxes just to spend them. Ranged Accuracy, Ranged Speed, Ranged or Melee Defense would probably be best.

And the only profession that shouldnt matter.


I find pistol smug bh 3010 is nice; the kd is about as good as the "improved" and you can still join up with your bh friends for some downright proper jedi abuse. Im thinking a good team of BH would be a smugg/BH for rooting... a 0040 ranger/BH for finding them, and a rifle BH for doing the rest.

he's right you know. BH is a blast.

If you're not into the whole jeedai hunting thing, you might think about x4xx SL, with exploration 1. you'll be better at terrain negotiation a little, and you'll have 185 ranged AND melee defense. Along with the 50 pistol defense, that's one well defended toon.

I went wwith BH x31x. Gives you a nice knockdown (underhand shot) and a nice damage move (improved critical). Plus I am a huge fan o terrain negotiation which you get from the BH scout prereq. I like the idea of carbs as well, you get the knockdown and damage there too.

bh>carbs IMO, I guess it's more a matter of preference, but I've done both post-cu, and definitely prefer bh.

I went 4000 in TKA. You get some nice bonuses in the TKA novice box like 2000 points of virtual battle armor that never decays. Going up the meditation tree you get the ability to meditate and heal your wounds, cure poison, cure disease, and stop bleeding and burning. Also you get a +500 health buff for 10 minutes. Plus you can actually melee and not get laughed at.
