Excuse me if I sound ignorant to your profession, but...
What do smugglers actually do? Hide illegal goods in their ship and fly them somewhere? No. They hack terminals and alter weapons so they become better weapons. Sounds like Hacker and Weaponsmith / Engineer to me.
When I was new to the gameI wanted to be a smuggler - we all love Han Solo - but when I saw what smugglers do I turned away. It would be nice if there was a way to implement really smuggling. Carrying illegal goods and fugitives from A to B, evading the forces that be, trading. Somebody remember theELITE game for the Commodore / Amstrad computers (1984,I guess)? THAT was a smuggler game!
The only reason why this profession is called Smuggler is that they must have a smuggler in a SW game. Why can't the SWG smuggler be a real smuggler?
I know this is not the most pressing issue ATM, just a thought.
BTW - no offense to any smugglers in the game intended!

Heh, Smugs have been promised a revamp for about two years now. But hey, this is the best community in the game, in my not so humble opinion, mainly because we get bent over.

Well I don't see why that's so important, I mean if you follow that logic what would commandos do

Come on, he has a point. Imagine if we could smuggle high priced jedi and once we do it we can lower their viz. OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT.
and the correct defintion of a commando has nothing to do with commanding. Best to think of it as rambo or special forces.

Heh, I've been imagining that for the better part of two years now.
My original post was a reference to a response from a CSR when someone (Spinning?) submitted a "bug report" a few months back about how his smuggler couldn't smuggle. I agree with the guy who started the thread completely, of course, but after all this time, just saying "You're right" isn't much fun.

Hey now! I was (lowercase)muggling wookiees just the other night. Right under the noses of some of the Empire's finest prison guards, too. I must be the greatest smuggler ever because those guards didn't even bat an eye as I lead the Wookiee Freedom Parade to safety.
It's sad, but it's true.

Yeah, I didnt think my idea was new, but just because it was discussed or thought about two years ago didnt stop me from posting.
The smuggler terminals are a good idea, I guess. Interplanetary trade is the keyhere. But since going from one planet to another is less hustle than going from a city to a remote vendor, why should there be different prices on different planets? Strict contraband search and law enforcement in the starports and around space stations would make carrying goods / illegal goods enough trouble to actually seek the services of a smuggler. To smuggle Jedis is a great idea as well, maybe to shake a bounty hunters trail.
Also, a better blending between the ground game and the space game with take-off / landing sequences would be desireable and greatly enhance the movie fell.
Thanks for all your feedback.
