Thread: Question about the viability of selling tools

I've been toying with the idea of selling slicing supplies (and maybe to a small extent spices) and was wondering if I would be wasting my time. I've only been a master smuggler for a short while and I'd like to know if more smugglers make thier own tools or buy them? Is selling tools profitable? (I would plan on getting novice as and ws to make upgrade kits, not just stocking clamps and knives) If it is what kind of prices should I be charging? I realize some of this answers will vary by server (I'm on Starsider if it makes a difference) but any advice would be appreciated. Thanks for your time.

It's definitely worth doing.
On the way up to Slicer, I never sliced without clamps. It was hard enough to get containers etc to slice as it was without the possibility that you'd mess up and never get the xp.
Novice smugglers will buy clamps so they guarantee the xp - I know I did, and just so you know I was paying between 4 -4.5k a crate of 25.

I'm also on Starsider, and on rare occasions I'll sell a bunch of tools, but otherwise they don't sell much. Could be location, but I've advertised and tried many other locations, and it was something that just never took off.
And spices, Hah, in 2 months I've sold maybe 5 crates of Muon and Pixie.

I'm on Scylla and it's a pretty decent way to make money. I've been selling tools since my supplier left 4-5 months ago.On occasion it's not a HUGE moneymaker, but when the word gets around, your business will pick up.

I'm a Master Smuggler for no sense in any crafting business, I sometimes craft some muon or pixi for myself. I always buy my tools knives and clamps, as long as they cheap enough. I met some other M.Smuggler that way.

I have an alt MWS merchant toon and my Master Smuggler makes tools and slices the weapons, and I can't hardly keep them stocked they sell so fast.

I sell Clamps on Eclipse, 6k on the Bazaar... elsewhere I've seen them ranging from 2.5k to 8k on private vendors...
My own vendor I sell them for 4 or 5k a crate.

I am actually thinking of doing this. My supplier has dropped MS so once I run out I'll be on my own. The plan I have in mind is to have clamps, knives, WUKs & AUKs (depending on availability), and also the basic stone knives from artisian. This worked well for him and I was very happy to see his vendor when I started smuggler.

It Is definitly worth. I have made 5.8 mil over the last 4 months selling knives, clamps, and upgrade kits on Intrepid. Just get a shop in an area with good trafic, and it is a nice little bonus to whatever else you are doing to make money.

I agree with most everyone else. There is money to be made in smuggler supplies.
My biggest tip is that if you are going to do it, make sure you keep all items stocked. The
biggest complaint that I hear about other vendors is that players hate traveling all the way
to a vendor only to discover they do not have what they need. On Intrepid, I don't think I am the
cheapeast for any particluar item, but when you come to my shop you will know that everything is available.

Thanks for the pricing guide. I'm sure things may be a little different server to server but gives a good starting point. For the AUK's and WUK's do you buy them from the AS and WS or do you just have them make a schematic for you and use your resources? Which do you feel is a more viable option and most cost effective?
