So after finally getting a break from the workweek, I logged on to see what new tactics I was going to have to employ when I hunt solo. When I'm out with the guild, we all know our jobs so I wasn't too concerned about the mez change to Concussion. My biggest problem there is going to be making sure that everyone knows it breaks on damage and whipping up a /macro shout CEASE FIRE!! to hit before I apply a mez.
But when I'm on for an hour or two and just want to grind a bit, I knew I'd have to change the way I do things. Luckily, I was wise enough to keep myself updated on the changes long before they happened and planned accordingly. I picked up a little Carbineer and already had some Pistoleer which I just respeced over to the Stopping Shot line. According to SOE, I'm supposed to be the CC guy as Master Smuggler, but we all know how well that worked out so I decided to make myself a "5" without their help. This is what's worked well for me against MOBs without ranged attacks. For clarification, I'm currently a CL 65 because of some Artisan and Merchant and am MS/Pistoleer 1/2/1/4/Carbineer 0/1/1/0.
Armed with my trusty pistol, I move in close enough to be able to pull one away from the crowd. Body Shot and Leg Shot as I start retreating away from it. After those two land, I drop a Charge Shot on the beastie and knock it down, then follow it up with another Body Shot and Leg Shot. By this time, the MOB's almost on top of me or hitting me for the first time. That's when I drop Improved Stopping Shot on it and continue to move back to my max range, alternating betweenBody and Leg shots as I go. This is usually enough to finish it off before the root ends, but sometimes I'll have to either snare it with Crippling or Restraining and kite it for the last fewshots or just take a couple of hit from it, depending on how I'm feeling.
On the off chance that I miss with Stopping Shot, I've found that Concussion works as a nice follow up. It'll mez the MOB long enough that Stopping Shot is done cooling down and ready to be used again. So far this has worked pretty well, but I've been sweated a few times when a BAF occurs or I get unlucky with a few of my damage or KD shots. FD is a great backup plan in these cases.
I'm going to try some new tricks on Ranged MOBs over the next few days and see what I can come up with for those guys.
I'm interested to hear what other people are doing now with their skills and, more importantly, with their thinking caps, now that our 40 second root is working as it was intended.
