This comes from my "Guide to Fix the GCW" post also in my Signature. So you may want to see the rest of the post to understand how this woould all work together. However even on it's own I think it's pretty good.

I'm sure you guys have discussed and probably came up something similair. But here it is.

Smugglers

Smugglers can now Smuggle items. There are two types of missions, Ground Based, and Space Based. Smugglers can only Smuggle Items while On Leave or Neutral.

Ground Based a Smuggler will talk to NPC take their “Goods” and take them to the location to which they need them delivered. These missions vary in where they lead and difficulty. Smugglers will typically have to get past a group of enemies to get at their Drop Off Location. Though not always. Sometimes the Smuggler will get lucky and run into no enemies.

Smuggler “Goods” are considered Contraband, so be careful around the Empire otherwise you may get into trouble. Police in Cities will also Scan citizens for Contraband and will attack you if found carrying illegal goods like the Empire. Also any Spices, or Weapons Sliced by a Smuggler are considered Contraband too. Imperial Smugglers however will only lose FP when found by Imperials, but when found by Police they will still attack them. Being found by the Police or Empire is a mission failure.

Space Based a Smuggler will talk to NPC on the ground then go into Space. In Space they will dock with their Contact to get their “Goods”. They must then Travel to their Drop Off location in Space. While traveling it is likely they will run into Imperials who have found them. The Smuggler must then attempt to escape or risk being found and destroyed by the Imperial Ships as a Smuggler. If in a Multiplayer Ship the Imperials will then instead board your Ship. The Imperial Boarding party will then attempt to find Contraband on board. If they do they will attack you and anyone on Board. If not they will leave. It’s all about luck. Sometimes you might just have some regular Stormtrooper Squad or you might have a squad of Nova Troopers breathing down your neck. If you are an Imperial Smuggler or Imperial Pilot you will instead deal with Pirates. Pirate Boarding Parties will just go about and kill you. If you are an Imperial aboard a Neutral or Rebel Multi Passenger, you will not be attacked by the Stormtroopers, but then you will not be able to help your friends either. If you die on your Space Smuggling mission you fail.

The last and most Dangerous Part of being a Smuggler is taking to many Missions can get you Player Bounties. So don’t Smuggle to much otherwise you risk getting a Bounty. Once a BH kills you, their mission is complete, and all Records of you are erased. However Rebels cannot take BH Missions on Rebel Smugglers, since the Rebellion does not consider Smuggling a bad thing.

Smugglers typically get paid 10,000 to 50,000 Credits per a mission. Bounties on Smugglers will typically be 25,000 Credits.

Thanks, but I never give up on my ideas, even when they don't concern Commando. Even if the Devs don't like them or care.

To be honest if I could I'd like the chance to truley play every Profession in this game. But the Grinding and Time simply makes it impossible so I've just stuck with Commando and ain't giving it up.

The rebellion does look down upon smugglers... unless the smuggling is directly related to them, and benefits them in some way. The Rebellion takes laws seriously as well... several spices and weapons are considered illegal on Rebel controlled planets or territories.

I think that if Rebels stop you and search you, and find you are smuggling for somebody other then them... you can bribe them with a promise of loyalty or even explain your disgust for the empire or something.

That pretty much explains the basic concept of the thread that used to be In Concept. Rather than that be our role for the GCW, I'd prefer that to be our role, period .

For the GCW, specific aligned Smuggling missions, blockade runs and item aquirements would be great... but then again for the GCW itself I'd love to see a ranking structure and order system similar (although not identical) to that in Planetside; that would really turn up the intensity and realism of the whole thing .

i like this idea, the thought of boarding parties is so cool.. however, we would need to be able to install secret compartments, to hide stuff in, that would be cool

The idea about boarding parties has been discussed before, and there is one problem. Some smugglers have a crafter profession also, and the NPCs used in the boarding should be balanced so a level 54 have a some kind of survival cahnge against it.

Now can you take it a step further and make the GCW and Underworld mean something by having them interact in a way that makes Smuggler useful to the rest of the player base?

I'm all for NPC stuff, and from the IC docs that have gone up and down over the last 2 years so are the devs, but I'll never give up on the dream of actually having items have worth other than credits. If you're gonna introduce Smuggling within the GCW then it's time they start treating resources, weapons, and armor like they're of value to the combatting forces since it is a war after all.

I'm not knocking you, just saying you should really take it a step further. The number one complaint about interaction in the GCW is that it's completely meaningless as is right now. Were you to have taxes and tariffs on goods, being on the winning side of the GCW and controlling planets would actually be worth something.

"Jedi claims of being "broken" are like saying "But my TV isn't widescreen! It's broken! My TV can't show high-def pictures in 1080i, it can only do 720i! It's broken!" Meanwhile, crafters are saying "We'd really like to have a TV that's larger than 12" and gets more than 4 channels and doesn't constantly lose vertical control", and entertainers are saying "Can we get some color instead of this B&W piece of junk?" And smugglers? We're listening to radio programs of "The Shadow" and "The Abbot and Costello Comedy Hour" and hearing FDR's Fireside Chats. We don't even HAVE a damn TV, much less a broken one or a "broken" one by Jedi standards. I'd LOVE to be as "broken" as they are." - The Legendary Solo4114
