Hello, used to be a master smuggler.. was just thinking it would be neat for smugglers to be able to pick pocket non attackable npcs.. Of course there would be a chance of getting cought... My bad if this has been proposed before. Maybe it can go in the smuggler revamp (like that will ever happen)

a Pickpocket skill would be rad, since we're basically the thieves and rogues of this game. I used to play a thief on Ultima Online years ago, and pickpocketing NPC's was always a great way to get some quick funds.

well, it would be cool for sur, but that's not a smuggler content, we're transporters, not thieves. Being an illegal profession doesn't mean we have to do every illegal thing we think about. What after pickpoketting? bank robberies? fiscal fraud? dancers assault?.
Thanks for the idea, but, no thanks. That's non smuggler.

Hmm, not just transporters. You can give bribes to recruiters, sell information to recruiters, sell drugs to players (spice). The actual name describes transporting, but If all you could do as a smuggler was transport... well, that would be no fun. So you guys give biribes sell info and deal drugs.. why shouldn't you be able to pick pocket?

i don't know, i'm with kio on this one. we're smugglers, not thieves. we steal in a different way. skim from the top, "lose" cargo, etc. mugging someone or picking their pocket would be "beneath" a professional smuggler.
its like asking a professional car thief to do a smash and grab. its just not right.

But everything you mentioned is Smuggling in a sense. Selling information and drugs/spice still fits into the Smuggler theme. The only thing that makes it not smuggling is the fact that you don't have to be secretive about it, but otherwise you're still moving information and illegal (or at least they're supposed to be) drugs/spices.
Pick pocketing is not smuggling; it's being a petty thief.
If I'm going to steal something, I want it to steal something of hardcore value. I want to have to slice into a complex, sneak past heavy security to gain access to a main server room where I slice their records and download sensitive data. That's stealing in a more Star Wars Smuggler sense.

Asi said, this purposal would perfectly fit in a thief profession, and as such it's a good idea, i didn't mean to discourage any of you.
Posting ideas is far more constructive than not posting, and if i were of any influence down there i would encourage everyone of us to post3 ideas a day so that we can go on and be constructive to have our profession suit our wishes.
I've been around for 2 years now, not a big poster (as my post count show you) but i come here every single day, at least 3 times, during the maintenance (living in europe makes maintenance happen at 1 PM), sometime around dinner generally while waiting for my night's buff, and before going to bed. This forum is what has kept me from quitting since you fellow smugglers you bring hope everyday. Everyone of us had some dreams about being a smuggler, some wanting to be Han-like, other tending towards Talon Karrde, Dash Rendar or Booster Terrik (you prefer Mirax? i do too
). The biggest part of us is rather well aware of SW content and this makes this community some pleasant place to discuss. For those who're not SW fans, or just mmorpg addicts you have chosen this profession ofr your own reasons, and with your own experiences you bring us enlightment on what is possible or not and for these reasons (plus your personnal being
you're as beneficial to the whole brotherhood as any SW fan (sometimes far more).
This is to say that if you feel i have been a bit rude, that wasn't my pupose, didn't want to burn you on the public place, just wanted to make sure people don't mistake smuggler and thieves. Practicing illegal business doesn't mean we have to do all illegal things. As a smuggler i see myself as someone who gets paid to have a job done, some job that i can doon my own, some i'll have to recruit a team to make things happen. You need something? the question is not if i'm able to do it, but how much you're able to pay for it. That's my motto (and from what i've been reading on these boards for the last year, i know i'm not the only one). And that is what i think the devs intended to have with introducing the smuggler profession (but for this i'm not sure if they actually thought to anything when adding smuggler:smileytongue
Go on and post ideas all of you, they're on a better place discussed here than kept in your brains

Exactly! Thanks for making the effort and in bringing your ideas in hopes of making our profession just that much better ![]()
We may not agree but the effort is most certainly appreciated!
