Thread: Geevo's random thoughts...started with one topic...and I just kept going...
Heh, the funniest things about reputations is that your rarely know of yours until someone mentions it to you. I just finished making a faction deal (guy wanted to switch from Rebel to Imperial) and he started off with, "I hear you sell Imp faction points... lots of people have said nice things about you". Such words would obviously make anyone feel good ![]()
Then again, there are those who don't like your slicing prices and start ranting and raving in spatial until someone comes by to tell them to **edit** ![]()
As for the profession, I'm still one of the major slicers on Starsider. I still manufacture and sell spice (slowly). And, I still do faction sales. And most of all, I enjoy doing it all which makes it all worthwhile. For the past couple of months i've gotten into the resource market and my sales are doing really well.
All in all, SWG is a very good game but it can be incredibly frustrating when you think about the potential it has and the fact that so much dev time is being wasted on those **edit**ing Jedi.
I would rather play it as it is, than not at all.

This is pretty much what I thought when I was playing beta. I looked at the smuggler tree (it hasn't changed from what I remember, other than the pre-reqs), and I thought, "Man. This is a great basis for a smuggler profession. The tools are there. There's so much potential here." And then the devs said, "Smuggler trainers are working now, and the game will be in stores in nine days."
That was when I decided to wait a while before picking up the game. And here, almost a year later, the profession is still a good basic framework for a great smuggler profession, but it's not there. It's like having the Dancer profession without the /dance command. The tools are there; we just can't do what we're meant to do
For some random thoughts Geevo, you really bore your soul to us. I for one appreciate your cander and meandering musings. I think you just gave some very personal reasons for sticking to your guns, both for and against the devs, revamp, SWG, and SOE no matter which position you take. That's respectable.
I too, still enjoy the game and will stick with it, and smuggler. I have no intention of playing anything else in this game. It's those little moments you mentioned that make the game what it is. Sometimes itis easy to lose sight of those things in lieu of events on these forums. Thanks for bringing them up, maybe it willhelp others to pause and reflect on the simple aspects of the game that still make it fun and enjoyable.

I tend to be an extreme person ... I hold a lot in (both RL and game) and then just ... let it go when I feel the need. Sometimes I wish I had a middle-ground ... but it is the way I am.
It's funny, I was as pissed as anyone here Thursday and Friday, first when the SOTG letter was posted and quickly removed, then even more so with JustG's drive-by statement. And what do I do whe I get angry in RL? That's right, I run around in-game blasting every single Chuba and Durni i could find.
The thing was, it helped me realize that its not so much how 'bad' the game is, cuz in all honesty it's still fun, sometimes even more fun because of the individual demands one must put one yourself to find that fun. What I think the majority of the playing community gets upset about (the non-Power-Gamer 1337s who think they can 'win') is that we see so many ways it could be made even better. I've said before and I'll say again, while it may not be the best MMO right now, given the right direction and a few nudges, it easily could be.
This is my first MMO. Never exacly thought i'd really ever get into one until I saw a SW title coming out. This is also the first game i've purchased on Day 1, that i've truely anticipated for months in advance. And I really can't see myself giving up on this game any time soon because, even though I may vent and complain in the forums, when I am playing I can just enjoy what i'm doing, and have a little bit of fun in that proverbial "galaxy far, far away."
And Geevo, you are absolutely right about the Devs. We give them hell on a daily basis, and a lot of times they really don't deserve it. Sometimes they do, of course, but then again a lot of times they're trying to appese other players and we need to throw our jealousy somewhere. I mean, look how we've gone after the poor IDs this week. They didn't do anything to warrent our ire at them, they just wanted the best gaming experience they could. The same as us. When our revamp finally comes around, we should remember the professions behind us (probably still SL, BH and Rangers unfortunately) and if aspects of our revamp can help them (player bounties anyone?) so much the better. Cuz in the end, this game isn't about specials, "phat loot," badges or the millions in your bank. If it were, you can get all those playing something besides an MMO. Its about the players, the interactions, cooperation and even the rivalries.

Many of us are complaining about the revamp ... or lack there of ... (including myself). Many are unfortunately quitting the profession, or the game. I am excited about GM and the recent communication. We had a brief time when the last delay was announced that communication went well, and then it seemed to die off. I hope that it continues this time ...
I couldn't agree more.
There has been mention of Caylin stepping down out of frustration which I hope does not happen. I think he is a good Correspondent where if I were the Correspondent I would end up getting fired from the position because I would break the rules and tell everything. We need him ... and I don't know of anyone else that I think would do as good of a job.
I think it would be a huge blow to our Community if Caylin were to step down, but there is also only so much that a person can take. I do hope you stay bro, but I would not wish your position on anyone either
Anyway, I hope there was something valuable that those have read found in this...but as I said ... mostlyl just sharing thoughts.
Heh, I thought maybe I would as well, provided I don't hijack the thread

Wow Geevo, nice post
The day you just described.. that's prety much what I want to expereince with my character in this post-revamp game of ours
. However, for the most part I'm just a slice monkey for my guild. I want to branch out into doing the things that you do and gain a reputation of an honest easy to approach Smuggler (which I am, most just don't know it
).
Any tips for getting started? (I realise this is somewhat moronic coming from a master smuggler of several months
)
The best tip I can give ...
Treat everyone with respect ... enemy, ally, everyone. When someone complains, listen ... understand and make a reasonable effort to accomodate them.
I would also say (and many disagree) ... DO NOT SPAM ... You can make good money Spamming in Coronet. You can make better money being quiet. The people that have the money to make you rich ... really rich ... do not go to Spammers...the add you to their ignore list.
Educate your customers, and even random people that are open to talking. Last night I was working on Jabba faction (I want to do the palace again and had -5000) so I was running around Tat and came across 3 people. 2 had been playing for 5 days, 1 for maybe 5 months. I sliced for all three (no charge since they were noobs) ... gave the guy working on unarmed a set of VKs and talked about things. During this conversation I did mention my normal prices and told them that I am one of the more expensive on the server ... but I will bet you 100k that they come to me in the future ![]()

As usual, 5 stars to you for reminding us of why we picked up this game in the first place.

I was actually talking to my roomie last night about SWG (he is a Mac person so can't play...I keep telling him to give up the Mac, but he doesn't want a PC...) and challenged him to find a profession that you can't do in SWG. He started with "Politician"
... although some he tried to be so specific that I had to 'generalize' (like Hershey Candy maker I coverted to "Chef") ... he had quite a difficult time, but finally caught me(Deep-Sea Scuba Diver is not a profession in SWG).
Have any of you gone through each of the skill trees to see all the titles there are?
Oh, and another thing ... the entire reason I went for the Triple-Master is because I got tired of getting killed after faction deals. It is because of the Imperials that I changed from the original template that was designed (Artisan 4040, Marksman 0400, Brawler 4000...plus I picked up Novice Armorsmith, Novice Weaponsmith, Novice Merchant). I was happy being wimpy until I kept getting killed.
Now I am"Just a wimpy Smuggler"
That either kills, or feigns death until the Imperial gets bored ![]()

nice post geevo.
Mos Eisely is my new favorite star port to travel from because of the n00b. I will slice weapons for free and explain how slicing works (future clients) when i have the time or run around on a n00bs first few missions with them and it is always fun. From there i head out to Corellia and find a dark corner to do e-mails or grind and for the most part people i slice for are very cool. I like to do some light RP and tell them things like if they get cought they dont know me. And i really love when i do have a chuckle for the smuggler story cause you have to laugh at people somtimes. From there Buffs and gaming with my friends. I love being a smuggler mainly for the interaction with the player base. While there-vamp/dev thing is disapointing my love for the profession the game my friends and the knowlege that it will get better over time keep me going.
