Thread: Developers response to Languages
J. Brack talked about how they went over languages many times in continuity meetings and the decision was that being able to communicate with other users was more crucial than the value of making that communication hard to learn but rewarding when learned. There may be content in the future that may require learning of emotes or special languages or key phrases to complete missions or prevent failures. Haden added that when looking at the movies and how Han Solo understood Jabba even though Jabba never spoke a word of Common, it was decided that it was very cool, but the fact remained that they still understood each other and Jabba could have spoken Common just as easily, so it was decided that language should not be a barrier in the game.

I asked about languages at Fan Fest my friends. Since this plays a role toward Smugglers with thier universal language ability I thought I should post it here. This is taken from IGN.
Question: Will languages ever play a more substantial role in the game? Will they become harder to learn or have any real value in the future?

Now maybe it's just me, but I think they might be a little confused.I for one dont beleive aliens speak alien languages because they dont feel like communicating with people, And why would they give us universal languages if they just felt languages were there just to add flavor and should be bypassed.
: sighs : Maybe GreenMarine will help us. He's our only hope. ^_^

This was something I also asked GM about when I talked to him. Turns out he was the one that but the code in there for our +100 lang comprehention hoping to give us a cool and usefull skill.. He did this the week before they but in the current system of languages. I just wirh they would bloody remove it, it's kind of an insult at this point.
Had comment on this one...had to. So...umm...sorry lol...
To nitpick, the "Common" Human language they're referring to is called "Basic" in Star Wars...but I think text is completely different and resembles Klingon crap from Star Trek (PS...don't kill me Trekies...I dressed up as Data for Halloween when I was in 4th grade)
And as far as Han Solo, Chewie, and Jabba goes.....If I can remember correctly, Han learned Huttese language from his time on Ylesia as a SMUGGLER for the spice manufacturing/pilgrim colonies there. Han also learned Shyyriwook (sp.) from Dewlanna, the Wookiee that raised him aboard the Trader's Luck. There were many people...including...that little kid that said he was Han's nephew or something that couldn't understand Shyyriwook. Save that one wookiee with the speach impediment that actually made it easier for Humans to understand him.
So, it was Han's piloting and smuggling life and the people he run into all over the galaxy that allowed him such language comprehension. I doubt even your Imperial Admiral or leaders of certain fields (professions) hadnear thelanguage comprehension as your average smuggler does, dueto their dependence on needing ships and travelling all over the galaxy to perform their job. I mean, that's just common sense...right?
