FD is great better than fan shot but at leaset going to fan you get speed mods. Also consider bounty pistols for speed and eye shot.

Since you can't take all the skills I recommend you these:
- Go up as high as you can in the Pistol Stances tree first if you have the combat xp to spare: You're gonna need badly the speed mods and the melee defense for pistols because the high xp reward mobs always go melee, and you'll need speed to kill them all.
- Go up the Pistol Marksmanship tree: You got the speed, you wanna hit them most of the time so pick up this tree first.
- Spare your points between Technique and Grips: If you already have a melee profession, go up to Pistol Techniques III for the ranged mitigation then save those 2 points and put them on Grips for some dodge.
My reasoning: in my experience, you can get decent, and almost as quick xp gain if you take Dantooine solo missions, pick Voritor Hunters (no poison, Acid vuln) and Mokks (Heat vuln). Jantas are kin vuln, but you won't be doing much with a Stryker pistol. Just run up to the lair, target it, and use some Pointblank area 1, then when they all aggro, use Health Shot 1 and 2 on every creature, then spam Area1 on the lair. When they start running away, use Healthshot 2 on the creature to kill.
Now, if your other professions involve BH XX4X, then you can probably forget about some of the Marksmanship (maybe get till II) (but you'll still need melee defense so don't drop Stances) and put them where you need them: Grips (dodge) and Tech (defenses).
You don't "really" need Fan Shot to get high ammounts of XP, but it helps.

I've been working on Pistoleer but i've recently decided to take Underworld and Dirty Fighting from the Smuggler skill tree. Problem is this means i can't go all the way to Master in Pistoleer, so my question is which are the priority trees in the Pistoleer tree?

The easiest way to grind pistol XP is with fanshot, so go up that tree ( i believe it's the abilities line). Also, you'll be hosed without any speed mods, so the combat XP you get should go into the Stances tree. From my experience those should be the priorities. Can anyone else throw in some advise? Correct me if i'm wrong?

There's really no reason to pick up the Underworld tree, unless you want to sell Faction points. It's a long and tedious process, though, and a waste of time and skill points. I'd pick up the stances tree from Pistoleer, and go with just Dirty Fighting if you want pistol specials. Like Orcajum said, you'll need speed mods if you want to be effective with any of those specials. Last Ditch is probably one of the best pistol shots in the game, so it's definitely worth your time and effort to get it. And I can't tell you how many jams Feign Death has gotten me out of.
